International Education Newsletter April 2021
Spring Has Sprung in the Central Okanagan! Students stepped right into spring, spending time outdoors and getting active in April! Homestay Coordinators met with students at schools distributing trail guides and maps, helping them plan their own hiking excursions. Gift cards from two popular locally owned and operated businesses, Bliss Bakery and Parlour Ice Cream, were also handed out to students…because what’s better than trailside treats! Bliss and Parlour offer a variety of handcrafted take-away goodies and both were conveniently located on Downtown Kelowna's "Spring Time Step Challenge" routes. Students were encouraged to try these fun walking challenges and discover some new cultural and outdoor destinations downtown. There were also lots of outdoor scavenger hunts organized in April by the Lake Country Museum, Kelowna Museums, Westbank First Nation, and the City of Kelowna. Participating students visited local heritage sites, toured different parks, and learned more about the communities they live in.
There really is no better place to explore the great outdoors than right here in the Central Okanagan. With 30 regional parks and plenty of picturesque pathways, there's endless opportunities waiting outside for everyone!
