Light Up Central Highlands has always been one of my favourite activities of the year because it truly brings our region together in holiday spirit
It is community members like yourself that remind me why I love living in the Central Highlands so much We are a friendly bunch with strong values and traditions that make our region unlike any other
I hope you find this booklet useful in providing inspiration as well as safety trips you can implement while decorating your house There are really no limits to what wild creations you may come up with although, a snow machine might not be the most practical for our region
Just as a reminder, here are a few important dates to lock down on your calendars so that you can be ready in time to compete
Judging will take place the 6, 7 and 8 of December 2022
Lights must be displayed between 7.00 pm and 11.00 pm on the judging days in order to be judged correctly
Enter a photo of your house for the People's Choice Award and vote by the 18 December. Have fun!
Wishing you and your families a safe and happy holiday season.
Sincerely,

MAKE A PLAN
Begin by walking around your house and scoping out all the electrical points and potential areas you may want to hang your lights. Measure the areas and keep notes. Then, take a trip to your local store and purchase lights at the appropriate lengths, clips, cable ties or electrical tape you may need to secure your light design safely and securely.
ASK FOR HELP
Ask for help if you're nervous about climbing ladders or being on your roof. If this is your first year hanging lights, seek advice from family, friends or neighbours.
GET INSPIRED
Once you have a plan of the type of look you would like to achieve, look for areas around the exterior that will best work as focal points for feature lighting. Note any structural items around the front of your home that could be used to feature lighting–arches, columns, balustrades and fence lines.
Add extra sparkle and find inspiration in unexpected places. Do something different and create a bit of fun by lighting the garden bench seat, letterbox, privacy screens, flower pots or an old bicycle. Look at ways of recycling/reimagining old props, garden furniture and ornaments.
