Campbellford family members feared for loved ones in path of Harvey Campbellford – The historic devastation caused by hurricane Harvey has impacted the life of Art and Anne Linton, who have family living in the path of the storm that brought catastrophic flooding to Texas, then Louisana. “My sister Rosemary (Ender) lives in Fredericksburg, Texas, and the first thing I did when I learned of the hurricane was to phone her,” said Anne. She couldn’t reach her so she sent an email and had to wait two more days before she heard she was okay. “That was stressful,” she said grimly. Her sister’s son Steve lives in Beaumont, which has seen hospitals evacuated after floodwaters disabled the city’s pumping system, leaving more than 100,00 residents without drinking water. “My nephew Steve is right in the middle of things,” said Anne, adding, “but he and his family are okay. They just can’t go anywhere.” It took more waiting for the family to learn about his fate, too. “Steve finally got in touch with his mother yesterday,” said Anne, when interviewed Fri., Sept. 1. “Steve told us if he cast a line out of his home he could catch a fish,” she added, noting the family is making the best of the situation. “It’s the stress that is taking its toll on everyone,” she commented. Her sister’s daughter Lorraine lives in Porter, a suburb of Houston, and

Art and Anne Linton of Campbellford reached out to family living in Texas to find out if they are safe while they spent long hours watching the news on TV as hurricane Harvey slammed into Texas and then Louisiana. Sue Dickens/Metroland
she is okay too. This writer was able to contact Lorraine by email. “My experience is very emotional,” she wrote. “Most of my co-workers have had to leave their homes. I am okay but cannot drive anywhere. I am grateful that my family is doing okay. My brother Steve is in Beaumont, Texas and so far he is okay.” Lorraine has been working from home. “What bothers me the most is
that I cannot get out to help anyone here. Every Texan is helping one another. Military helicopters, FEMA, the national guard. The police officers are here saving people’s lives and they get to take their pets with them. Totally amazing. The Cajun Navy came over from Louisiana with boats and they are saving lives.” “It is a real sad situation but I am learning from this,” she wrote.
“What has touched me the most is my Canadian family. How much they care about us and love us,” she stated. Art and Anne Linton continue to watch the news on their TV as the media continues to report on the storm, which has now turned into a tropical storm and is still doing damage.
