Tweed – Die-hard fans of the King of Rock and Roll flocked to the village of Tweed once again last weekend. For the seventh year Tweed’s annual Elvis Festival proved to be a giant success, attracting guests from all over the world to experience the one-of-a-kind event in the town known for harbouring Elvis himself. Lisa Lesage, the Executive Manager of the Tweed Tribute to Elvis Festival, said the allElvis weekend was a complete success, partly in thanks to some new additions. “The weekend started out really great,” says Lesage. “We started with a wine tour on Thursday afternoon, and then we went on to Addison’s Restaurant, then the Emporium off of Highway 7 for some retail therapy and lunch which everyone really enjoyed. This was new and our guests are asking for it to happen again.” The festivities started Thursday night, where ETA’s – Elvis Tribute Artists – got to meet and greet with early comers to the festival at the Tweedsmuir. Friday afternoon opened up with the competition round, featuring both junior and senior competitors as well as non-professionals and professionals. “We started with our competition rounds Saturday morning, after the parade,” says Lesage, who was thrilled to be driven down Tweeds main strip in a bright red convertible. “Saturday’s rounds kicked off with both the junior youth and senior youth events, and then we went to our regular pros and non-pros. They competed and that was an elimination round.” Saturday night featured a performance from last year’s winner Oliver Steinhoff, an ETA all the way from Germany. The Tweedsmuir also played host to the King Idol competition, which was open to the public for anyone to
