Reeve joins cancer survivors to kick off campaign
By Sue Dickens
News - Marmora - Everyone was in the pink at The Cutting Corner in Marmora as cancer survivors had their nails done with pink polish to mark the kick off to the annual breast cancer awareness campaign. “We do this every year and try to raise money for breast cancer but this is the first time we’ve partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society, said Sheree Robson, owner of the salon. She knows the pain of breast cancer as her own mother was diagnosed with it last year. “She is a cancer survivor, said Robson with a smile. Many local breast cancer survivors arrived at The Cut-

Brad Warner, fund-raising co-ordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society, HastingsPrince Edward County & Brighton Community office, sent Robson a letter thanking her for participating this year and for “being our official pink manicures and pink highlights destination for the month of October.
“We are extremely excited to partner with you to raise awareness to breast cancer and the importance of mammograms as well as raising funds to find a cure for breast cancer by funding research, he wrote in his letter. Called the Pink Manicures/ Highlights of Hope program a percentage of the money goes to the Society designated for breast cancer research. According to the Society breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women in Canada. In 2014 an estimated 24,600 Canadians will be diagnosed with breast cancer and an

Residents surprised by development notice By Richard Turtle
News - Stirling - A small group of property owners, surprised to learn of a townhouse development proposed for a neighbouring property, arrived at this week’s regular meeting of Stirling-Rawdon council to ask for a little guidance. The matter is scheduled to be dealt with by the county
planning department today (Thursday) in Belleville and those present at Monday night’s meeting had heard nothing about it until late last week. The proposal some residents received by mail at that time, which includes drawings and preliminary plans, calls for the construction of a 12-unit townhouse complex at the top of a hill
near the Grace Bible Chapel. Adjacent property owners, as well as some on nearby Baker, Robb and Edward streets, had significant concerns about drainage and flooding with Arlene Pollick noting, “when it rains, that’s the St. Lawrence River. But drainage wasn’t the only concern. “There are a whole bunch of Please see “Residents on page 3
Marmora and Lake Reeve Terry Clemens made it clear getting his nails done is not a regular thing. He chose to participate in the kick off to Breast Cancer Awareness Month by having his nails painted pink at The Cutting Corner.
