News - Marmora - At least two Marmora candidates who expressed either skepticism or opposition on the proposed pump storage project in the huge mine quarry will have an uphill battle to win voters in this municipal election. The issue became so central in questions and debate that the Lions Club member chairman finally ruled out any further questions or comments. But the project still got generous debate. Reeve office challenger to long-time Reeve Terry Clemens, Kathy Hamilton, said her main reason to run was to avoid yet another “acclamation.” Most people in the audience, if not all, were aware that she has been a consistent and outspoken detractor of the highly touted project to convert one of Ontario’s largest man-made quarry pits into a massive pumped storage electrical generation project. She cited the environment, safety and loss of well water source. She contended there are many unknowns for such a large project and the people should know more first.
