A.C.E. is growing

By Richard Turtle

News - Stirling – Organizers of the second annual Active Community Expo (A.C.E.) saw significant traffic through the arena last week and predict the event will keep getting bigger and better. Economic Development Officer Cassandra Boniface says more than 250 people arrived in the first hour and a half of the 6-8 p.m. event held last Thursday at the arena. Visitors included local council members and MPP Todd Smith. And both exhibitors and visitors

had many positive comments about the exposition that featured various clubs, community organizations, sports, arts and wellness groups, Boniface says. Among the 42 groups represented were the local Masonic Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Stirling Citizens Band, Wellman’s WI, Hastings County 4H, Stirling-Rawdon fire and police departments, as well as several small businesses offering a variety of services and products. Martial arts, belly dancing,

horse soccer and yoga demonstrations were also part of the program, offering visitors a firsthand look at some of the physical activities available to participants of all ages. Members of the Stirling and District Lions Club greeted visitors and offered them a chance to win $100 off the cost of a registration of their choice. The A.C.E. was created last year by Stirling-Rawdon township staff, Economic Development Officer Cassandra Boniface and Arena Manager

Four bids were considered for reconstruction of the St. Lawrence Street East road surface. Road Superintendent Larry

Wood was assigned to “review each quotation for completeness and upon his confirmation that required work is quoted” council will approve the lowest bidder. Installation of the Empey Bridge on Robinson Road was completed July 30 with the exception of a few details. Wood reported “...there is a problem with puddles [forming]
