Dear reader,
While the days grow shorter and the air takes on a crisp edge, our beautiful Central Coast region remains alive with colour and flavour, Autumn bringing with it a slower rhythm - one that invites us to savour the season’s best as many of our local producers prepare for harvest.
In this issue, we celebrate the passionate growers, makers, and artisans who work quietly in our region, producing award-winning offerings and experiences. From page 4, we explore the citrus orchards of Eastcoast Beverages, the award-winning gins and rums of Distillery Botanica, the exceptional experiences on offer for locals and visitors alike at Yarramalong Valley Horse and Farm Stay and Tours, and so much more. All of our farm gates here on the Coast continue to create vibrant experiences and paddockto-plate offerings that are amongst the best in New South Wales, steeped in both rich heritage and innovation. We also take a journey to the Hunter Valley, where Hollydene Estate’s best-in-class wines and Pukara Estate’s olive oils and condiment offerings also offer the perfect excuse for a day trip.
Beyond the harvest, this issue brings you a taste of what makes the Coast so special - whether that’s discovering hidden gems in
our latest dining and property features, embracing the changing season with our autumn fashion showcase, or simply slowing down with a great book from our curated Book Club. And with the Central Coast Harvest Festival just around the corner over the June long weekend, there’s never been a better time to connect with our local producers, sample seasonal delights, and celebrate our region’s thriving food culture.
As the leaves take on warmer hues, I hope this edition inspires you to embrace the season and slow down - whether solo with a book, over a long lunch with friends, on a family visit to your local farm gate, or by simply appreciating the beauty of cooler mornings and brilliant Autumn sunsets over this gorgeous place we call home.
So, as you unwind and embrace the summer months, we hope this issue brings you a sense of inspiration, connection, and a renewed love for all that the Central Coast has to offer.
We hope you enjoy the stories within as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing them to life for you.

What began as a humble citrus farm in 1965, owned by Salvatore Lentini - a Calabrian immigrant and first generation citrus grower - has evolved into one of Australia’s leading juice brands, still maintaining the same commitment to quality, sustainable farming and family values across three generations.
The story of Eastcoast Beverages started in 1965, when Salvatore established the family's first orchards in Kulnura. His passion for citrus farming laid the foundation for a business that would span three generations, and by 1968, the family had secured a stand at Sydney’s bustling markets, selling hand-picked citrus fruit. Recognising a growing demand for fresh, highquality juice, the second generation of the Lentini family expanded into juicing, and by 1996, Eastcoast Beverages was born.
Today, Eastcoast Beverages operates on 150 acres of citrus orchards, growing oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit. The company processes an impressive 300,000-400,000 litres of juice weekly, plus an additional 100,000-200,000 litres of natural spring water, sourced from the natural springs that lay beneath the property. Every stage of production - from farming to squeezing and bottling - is done onsite, ensuring unmatched freshness and quality control.
In recent years, the third generation of Eastcoast have experienced rapid growth as customers’ desire for locallygrown, fresh juice has increased. With major upgrades to its blending processes, the team has enhanced efficiency and production capacity allowing the current outputs. Despite this expansion, the company remains committed to authenticity, sustainability and supporting local farming partners and businesses. Eastcoast has also partnered with independent experts to assess its environmental impact across key areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, soil health, and water usage, and their products carrying the 'climate-friendly' certification are a testament to the brand’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining their unmatched quality. Beyond the bottle, Eastcoast Beverages is deeply connected
to the Central Coast community. The company hosts farm tours and events regularly, welcoming thousands of visitors each year for behind-the-scenes experiences in the orchard and production facilities.
From its roots in a small fruit shed (that still sits on the main property) to becoming a household name, Eastcoast Beverages continues to grow while staying true to its core values: quality, sustainability, and most importantly, family. With juice products stocked across the Coast (and Australia), the company also produces Lentini sparkling water (an homage to Salvatore himself), and provide lemons and ginger to produce Six Strings’ Craft Ginger Beer and Lemonade.
To learn more about Eastcoast and their products, or to visit the farm, you can find them at 993 George Downes Dr, Kulnura or visit them online at eastcoastbeverages.com.au. For product and farm updates, you can also follow @eastcoast_beverages on socials.

The Central Coast is home to an abundance of passionate growers, artisans, and producers, offering everything from sun-ripened fruit and just-picked greens to handcrafted cheeses and local blooms.
Whether you’re filling your basket with farm-fresh produce, sipping locally grown juices, or immersing yourself in a hands-on farm experience, these hidden gems celebrate our beautiful region’s rich agricultural heritage. From boutique farms brimming with seasonal goods to immersive experiences that bring you closer to nature and the land, we’ve done the round-up of our favourite farm gates to visit this harvest season.
Mangrove Mountain
Run by husband-and-wife duo Eden and Louise, Fanelli Organics is an Australian Certified Organic farm in Mangrove Mountain that spans 45 acres of regenerated land, producing over 40 varieties of seasonal fruit and vegetables each year. Their sustainable, chemical-free methods prioritise soil health, ensuring the longevity of the land they work each day.
Some of Eden’s earliest memories are of running through the same orange orchards he and Louise now tend, dodging irrigation sprinklers and playing in the dirt. In 2012, he took over the farm from his parents, starting small with just an acre of zucchini and a vision for a better way to grow food and educate customers on where and how their produce is grown. By 2017, Fanelli Organics was officially certified organic, and today, the farm serves over 200 customers each week through farmers’ markets and direct farm sales - helping locals reconnect with their food and farmers.
In late Autumn, expect to see the team producing their own certified organic pasture-raised eggs (they’ve just welcomed over 200 friendly chooks to their new home) as well as a roadside farmstand that’s set to be open on weekends for visitors. Keep an eye out for pick-your-own citrus in winter and family-friendly farm experiences during the holidays, too.
You can find Fanelli Organics’ produce at Skeleton Farmers Market in Woy Woy on Sundays, Carriageworks Farmers Market on Saturdays, Like Minds in Avoca on Wednesdays, and Hardy’s Bay RSL on Thursdays. Orders can also be picked up from the farm Friday to Sunday.

Peats Ridge
Ever wondered how many sunflower seeds must be sown each week to keep a sunflower farm in bloom? Each week, Ivan and his team plant around 20,000 sunflowers by hand, weather permitting, to keep bringing joyful blooms to their loyal direct customers and the florists they supply across the coast. For over 12 years, The Bloom Barn at Peats Ridge has been a fixture at farmers’ markets along the coast, including every Sunday at the Newcastle Farmers’ Market in Broadmeadow.
The farm, which has been in the family for 40 years, was originally a vegetable farm before transitioning to flowers. Today, visitors flock to the farm, with hundreds stopping by every weekend to admire the flowers and pick their own blooms, with a farm stall on an honesty system also open out front. Prices start from just $15 with children 4 and under free, making it a bright and accessible experience for the whole family.
The Bloom Barn offers bespoke floral arrangements for weddings and events, as well as private viewings and photography sessions. Ivan, who spent 2023 planting his goal of 1 Million sunflowers, is also set to release a book this year to give a peek behind-the-scenes of farm life. Keep an eye on their socials @thebloombarn for farm opening updates, along with details on how to pick your own sunflowers this Mother’s Day weekend (May 11th).
You can find The Bloom Barn Farm at 1154 Peats Ridge Road, Peats Ridge, and online at www.thebloombarn.com.au.

From the moment we stepped onto this beautiful farm, we felt grounded and calm - it was like coming home. Yarramalong Valley Horse Farmstay & Farm Tours offers a special escape for the day (or longer), where guests can slow down and immerse themselves in farm life with hosts Michael, and his mum, Jenny. Spanning 55 acres of rolling hills, river frontage, rainforest and lush pastures, this family-run farm is home to over 40 world-class purebred Arabian horses, along with an adorable array of miniature horses, goats, sheep, silkie chickens, guinea pigs, mini-lop eared bunnies, an alpaca and more.
Once a renowned Arabian horse stud producing horses for both showing and endurance performance, Jenny made the decision to stop breeding horses when Michael became seriously unwell 10 years ago. Starting with a pony he was gifted, named Tutu, the farm became an integral part of Michael’s rehabilitation, and the decision was made to pivot the farm to become a tourism destination where the family could share the joy it brought Michael with others.
Now, you’ll find Jenny zipping around on a dirt bike (at 75 years young) and Michael giving farm tours most days to delighted
visitors - who are able to feed the animals, adventure through the rainforest, experience the ‘Fairy Tree’, look for wombat holes and maybe spot an echidna and platypus. Guests can book a stay in one (or more) of three charming Airbnb accommodations, each offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by stunning countryside. With over 800 five-star reviews, the farmstay is popular with citybased, interstate and international guests, while the farm tours are also a great day out for people living with a disability and NDIS participants, who enjoy being able to have a relaxing yet hands-on experience at the farm that is catered to their needs. Michael is great with all children including those living with a disability. The accommodation also caters for respite care.
The farm is also available for hire for weddings, private events and children’s pony parties. Catering and grazing tables with the animals can also be booked for special events in collaboration with Private Chef Catering. Farm tours run daily at 11am and can be booked via Eventbrite. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for children, and $10 for toddlers. To learn more, visit yarramalongvalleyhorsefarmstay.com or follow @yarramalongvalleyhorsefarmstay on Instagram. At The Food Farm, good food isn’t just about what’s on the plate, but also the story behind it. Founded by first-generation farmers Tim and Hannah, The Food Farm is redefining what it means to eat well, producing 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef and pasture-raised organic chicken and eggs using regenerative, positive farming methods. This ensures every bite is as nourishing as nature intended - and genuinely better for you than produce you’d buy almost anywhere else, packed with pasture-derived vitamin E, beta-carotene and close to a 1:1 omega 3 to 6 ratio (read: quite literally fit for a king - Tim and Hannah were also sought out by the NSW Premier to present their finest chicken to King Charles III and Queen Camilla when they toured Australia late last year).
Tim and Hannah have tapped into their early passion for agriculture to create a radical shift away from industrial food systems, building a transparent, sustainable farm-to-table operation that connects people (a.k.a their ‘farmily’) directly with the farm. They genuinely care for their 1500+ chooks and 100+ cows, the land and the future of food, and by slowing down and working with nature, they’re being kinder to their animals, their customers and the environment.
You can experience The Food Farm’s produce firsthand by visiting their 24/7 Farm Shop at 216 Yarramalong Road, Wyong Creek, heading to Gosford City Farmers Market on a Sunday, or if you’re in Sydney, visiting Carriageworks Farmers Market every Saturday. For the ultimate paddock-to-plate experience, The Food Farm even deliver straight to your door. To learn more, visit thefoodfarm.com.au or follow @thefoodfarmau on socials.
Somersby
Tucked away in the hills of Somersby, Artisan Estate is a familyowned business where history, craftsmanship and nature come together to create magic. The farm is currently under the care of Chris and Madeline, and has been tended over three generations with organic principles in mind. An orange orchard until the 1970s, the farm was replanted with over 400 pecan trees after a dip in the citrus market - and now produces up to eight tonnes of organic, pesticide-free pecans in a good season. The farm opens for pecan picking each year over the June long weekend, drawing up to 10,000 visitors for the annual Central Coast Harvest Festival. Weather permitting, you can pick premium pecans straight from the orchard, watch tree-shaking demonstrations, and escape to paradise beneath the estate’s stunning canopy while on the harvest trail.
Beyond the harvest, Artisan Estate encourages visitors to embrace their inner creative - with Chris and his son running regular workshops and courses from the property’s renowned blacksmithing shed, where you can forge everything from bushcraft knives to chef's knives and handcrafted copper scoops. Artisan Estate is also home to the region’s only blacksmithing club, welcoming makers every second Thursday evening from 5-9pm, and offers corporate experiences for city slickers keen to escape the hustle to get their hands dirty, too.
Whether you’re cracking fresh pecans on a sunny day in June or shaping molten metal into something special, Artisan Estate is a producer and maker’s haven, offering a range of experiences as rich as the land itself.
Visit artisanestate.com.au for more information, and follow @artisan_estate on socials for updates.
Once known locally as ‘The Fragrant Garden,’ the property home to Distillery Botanica is a Central Coast institution and a paradise for spirits crafted with care by owner and master distiller, Philip Moore. A horticulturalist by trade, Philip’s passion for plants and dedication to process laid the foundation for his journey into distilling over twenty years ago.
After purchasing the Erina property in 2005, Philip began distilling with a small still and a few books. By the following year, he was one of just sixteen Australians to hold a commercial distilling license. Now, with over 750 distilleries across the country, Philip’s tireless pursuit of perfection has cemented his reputation as one of Australia’s finest. From the moment you enter the grounds, it’s clear you’ve stepped into paradise - with every element carefully curated to delight the senses. The aromas from the gardens, the symbolic florals, and the calming sounds of the water feature create harmony at the heart of the property, where there are six species of rosemary, thyme, ginger, and citrus (purely coincidental), along with more exotic varieties, including aniseed myrtle, a selected blue gum from Mt Tomah, a lime from Cape York, and the heady lemon myrtle used in Distillery Botanica’s famous Lemon Myrtle Liqueur - cut only in the early morning to capture its essential oils at their peak.
From garden to glass, Moore’s distilling process is a masterclass in precision. Using a 530-litre copper still, he distils thousands of litres of gin each year, blending traditional London Dry techniques with Australian native botanicals - each processed separately to ensure the perfect ratios, right down to ‘parts per billion’. When it comes to his recent foray into rum, it’s no different - with over 150 fermentation trials under his belt at the time of writing, Phil continues to test yeast types, acid balances, and microflora interactions in his relentless quest for the ‘perfect’ rum. Using molasses from the Clarence River Valley, fermentation is a carefully controlled science, and Philip now uses a combination of three yeast strains, ensuring optimal flavour - one that is smooth and complex, reflecting the rum’s artisanal origins.
Moore’s Dry Gin made history as the first Australian gin to win gold at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition in London. The distillery’s Aniseed Myrtle Liqueur earned double gold and herb liqueur of the year in Germany, while its Lemon Myrtle Liqueur has twice won gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. The innovative Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, co-created by Philip in 2013, won multiple gold medals before its acquisition by Diageo in 2022.
The recent introduction of Pearl Crush Gin - a special coastal creation infused with Broken Bay Akoya pearls and citrus from Eastcoast Beverages in Kulnura - further showcases Philip’s innovation and commitment to local sourcing.
Visitors to Distillery Botanica can immerse themselves in a range of experiences, from gin tastings and cocktail-making classes to distillery and garden tours. Highlights include the ‘Distil Your Own Gin’ workshops, where participants create their own gin (in a personalised bottle) using botanicals picked fresh from the gardens. For a truly special experience, guests can join an exclusive guided tour with Philip Moore himself on the first Sunday of each month.
For those looking to enjoy Distillery Botanica’s creations at home, the full range of gins and liqueurs - including the special edition Pearl Crush Gin - is available online and at the cellar door. For updates and event details, sign up to become a Friend of the Distillery. For online orders, home delivery, and further information, head to www.distillerybotanica.com or call (02) 4365 3968. You can find Distillery Botanica at 25 Portsmouth Rd, Erina.
The Singleton Group has long been synonymous with quality hospitality on the Central Coast, curating venues that capture the essence of Australian dining while honouring its rich heritage. Two standouts within the group - Saddles Mount White and Railway Hotel Gosford - exemplify this approach, offering distinct yet complementary foodie experiences that celebrate local produce, culinary excellence, and country-style hospitality.
Saddles Mount White was born from John Singleton’s vision to create a dining destination that seamlessly blends with the natural beauty of the Central Coast. Tucked away in Mount White, Saddles was designed by acclaimed White + Dickson Architects and interior designer Michelle Leslie, embodying a deep respect for the Australian landscape. The homestead-style restaurant overlooks a picturesque dam, and merges seamlessly with the surrounding native bushland. Since opening in 2018, Saddles has become a beloved Central Coast institution, known for its rustic yet refined approach to dining and commitment to showcasing native ingredients and local produce.
Railway Hotel Gosford, on the other hand, pays homage to the rich history of Australian railway hotels - once essential stopovers for weary travellers, later evolving into the beating heart of many regional and country communities. The modern iteration of Railway Hotel in Gosford pays homage to this history, blending classic pub hospitality with a contemporary and elevated steakhouse offering. Here, the focus is on premium dry-aged steaks and gourmet pub fare, all crafted with the same dedication to quality that defines the Singleton Group’s approach to dining.
At the heart of the Saddles kitchen is Head Chef Reece Collins, with experience in both the UK and Australia - including roles at Le Pont de la Tour in London and Ayers Rock Resort in the Northern Territory. Reece brings a refined yet approachable style to the Saddles menu, with a ‘paddock to plate’ philosophy at the core of its curation. Over at Railway Hotel, the team have recently welcomed new Head Chef, Mark Wiseman, who brings his love of the outdoors and Australian native ingredients to the kitchen. From an extensive list of premium dry-aged steaks to house-made pies and pastries, the focus at both restaurants has always been on working with local suppliers and producers across regional NSW and Australia to ensure each dish is fresh, high-quality, and full of flavour.
Saddles, set amidst native bushland in Mount White, champions simple, refined dishes that pay homage to its surroundings. Think signature house-made pork and sage sausage rolls served with whiskey piccalilli or a golden, flaky beef brisket pie paired with Saddles' rich tomato relish. The bakery also turns out rustic yet refined treats, such as wild honey mascarpone banana bread and wattleseed tiramisu - a nod to native Australian ingredients.
Meanwhile, at Railway Hotel Gosford, the focus is squarely on premium steaks, with a menu designed to celebrate the finest cuts. Sourcing HGP-free beef from top-grade cattle across Australia, including Queensland and the Northern Territory, Railway’s exclusive dry-aging process enhances the flavour and tenderness of each steak. From perfectly seared Wagyu Scotch Fillet to slow-smoked brisket, every dish elevates classic steakhouse fare with a contemporary twist.
At Saddles, upcoming menu updates continue to explore bold, native flavours, incorporating ingredients like lemon myrtle and wattleseed to create a uniquely Australian experience. Railway, on the other hand, is leaning further into its premium steakhouse persona, refining its dry-aged selection and reimagining seasonal pub classics with a sophisticated twist. Expect more emphasis on expertly aged cuts, alongside signature Railway staples like the Picanha Steak with chimichurri and indulgent Steakhouse Prawns.
Beyond the menus, both venues offer something uniqueincluding the newly launched event space at Saddles, ‘Saddles Barn,’ which has already become a sought-after venue for weddings and private events, combining stunning scenery with exceptional food. Meanwhile, at Railway, a lively events calendar - featuring everything from trivia nights to sports and live music - ensures there’s always something happening alongside a great meal.
Whether you’re after a long lunch by the lake or a perfectly cooked steak, both Saddles at Mount White and Railway Hotel Gosford promise an exceptional dining experience rooted in quality and a passion for local produce and great food.
You can find Saddles Mount White at 20 Ashbrookes Rd, Mount White, and Railway Hotel at 159 Mann St, Gosford. For bookings and more information, visit www.saddlesmountwhite. com.au or www.railwayhotelgosford.com.au, and follow along on socials at @saddlesmountwhite and @railwayhotelgosford.
With 360-degree views of the Upper Hunter’s sweeping landscapes, Hollydene Estate is a special vineyard with a rich history steeped in both tradition and innovation, found far from the bustling Hunter Valley hub of Pokolbin.
Over the last 15 years, under the stewardship of owner, winemaker and executive director, Karen Williams, this once quiet, unassuming estate has evolved into a premier destination for wine lovers, food enthusiasts, and those seeking a taste of the region’s finest produce. From meticulously crafted wines to hearty paddock-to-plate breakfasts and lunches, Hollydene offers an experience that embodies the true quality and culture for which the Hunter is known.
Deeply connected to the land from an early age, Karen’s journey into winemaking began in 2004 with the purchase of Roseglen vineyard near Denman. After supplying grapes to Rosemount Estate and bottling small batches under her original ‘JUUL’ label, she then acquired Hollydene vineyard in 2005 and later the Wybong vineyard, bringing them together under the Hollydene name. When the historic Arrowfield Estate winery (the winery now known as Hollydene Estate) fell idle in 2010, Karen seized the opportunity to purchase the facility from its foreign owners, cementing Hollydene’s presence as a premium wine producer, breathing new life into a Hunter Valley icon and ultimately giving both of her family’s labels a permanent ‘home’. With vineyards in the Hunter Valley and Mudgee, Hollydene Estate now oversees every step of the winemaking processfrom vine to bottle - for both the Hollydene and JUUL labels. Winemaker Matt Burton of Gundog Estate leads production, hand-in-hand with Karen (who is a qualified winemaker herself) crafting between 10,000 and 15,000 cases annually under both labels - ensuring only the finest fruit is used with minimal sulphates for a purer (read: less headache-inducing) drop.
The estate’s excellence has been recognised internationally, with Wine NSW selecting Hollydene to represent the Hunter Valley as a premium label in London, and their sparkling varieties have consistently ranked amongst Australia’s best. Locally, their wines are available online, at the cellar door, in select stockists, and at Newcastle Airport, with limited exports reaching Europe.
Hollydene Estate is home to Vines Restaurant, an elevated casual dining destination offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Wollemi National Park and paddock-to-plate fare curated to showcase the best of the Hunter. Much of the meat, including lamb and beef, is sourced directly from the estate and neighbouring producers, while seasonal fruits, vegetables, figs, and herbs are grown on-site, too. The menu also features premium Hunter Belle cheeses and fresh local seafood, and is designed to complement Hollydene’s wines. Whether indulging in a long lunch or stopping by the cellar door for coffee, a cheese platter, or antipasto, guests enjoy an authentic Hunter Valley experience from the surroundings to the food.
Hollydene also offers unique experiences, including intimate wine tastings, corporate retreats, and private events. The estate’s barrel room provides a stunning setting for retreats, meetings, and celebrations, with the Hollydene team’s first-class service ensuring an unforgettable occasion. There are electric vehicle charging facilities on site (making it the perfect logistical lunch stopover on a trip out west) and Karen tells us there’s now a smoker on-site, too, so keep an eye out for locally smoked meats on the menu this autumn. We’ll see you there.
You can visit Hollydene Estate at 3483 Golden Highway, Jerrys Plains (not far from Denman), explore their wines at hollydeneestate.com, and follow @hollydeneestatewines on socials for the latest winery and restaurant updates.
FOR OVER 25 YEARS, Pukara Estate has been crafting premium Australian extra virgin olive oils of the highest calibre, earning its place as a trusted name in quality and flavour across Australia. Nestled in the heart of the Hunter Valley, this family-owned estate is built on a foundation of family, craftsmanship and a deep respect for the landa legacy now being embraced by the next generation.
Founders Steve and Racquel’s journey began in 1999, when they planted their first 18,000 olive trees on 200 acres near Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter. Over the years, they’ve carefully expanded their groves, refining their process and blending techniques to create olive oils of exceptional depth and character. Today, every bottle is crafted on-site using climate-controlled stainless steel storage and continual blending (of up to seven types of olive oil) to maintain freshness and consistent flavour year-round.
Now, as their daughter Georgia steps into the business, Pukara Estate is evolving again with investments in storage and bottling, new product lines (including pasta sauces), and an ongoing commitment to quality.

When Brent MacKinnon, owner of BBM Constructions and his cousin, joinery craftsman Christian MacKinnon, embarked on their latest build - the stunning Heath House at 102 Heath Road, Pretty Beachthey called in their most trusted partners.
Designed and built in collaboration with Fabric Architecture, this impressive project is next door to Brent’s family home and is a direct reflection of the team’s combined expertise, craftsmanship, respect for detail and connection to landscape and community.
The partnership between BBM Constructions and Fabric Architecture is one that has always been built on a foundation of trust and a deep appreciation for design integrity, since their first project together in 2020. For Fabric Architecture, this collaborative approach is fundamental to their practice. A contemporary design studio based in Toowoon Bay, Fabric Architecture specialises in projects that span residential, commercial, and hospitality sectors. Their work is guided by a philosophy that values intuitive, site-responsive design - where every building feels like a natural extension of its environment and client.
From the project’s inception, the two companies worked closely together to bring the team’s vision to life. Fabric Architecture led the design process, developing concepts, handling approvals, consultants and refining the home’s aesthetic. BBM Constructions, known for its exceptional high-quality craftsmanship and meticulous
attention-to-detail, then brought those designs to life and fed into the home’s more functional elements such as the stunning custom-made blackbutt timber details throughout the home.
For Damien Furey, co-director of Fabric Architecture, the collaborative approach is fundamental to their practice across all projects. “With Heath House, we have a strong relationship with Brent which allowed for a very fluid exchange of ideas and the ability to make the right choices throughout the build,” explains Damien.
BBM Constructions, founded by Brent MacKinnon in 2005, is renowned for its longstanding expertise in architectdesigned homes and structural additions. The company’s ability to navigate and manage complex builds - such as those on sloping sites like 102 Heath Roadsets it apart, along with Brent’s creative and solutions-oriented approach and a genuine love for Australian architecture, construction and design. A strong alignment of shared quality and values
between cousins Brent and Christian is evident in the build, with their commitment to excellence guiding every aspect. Christian’s stunning architectural joinery showcases forward-thinking design and technology elements and is handcrafted to stand the test of time.
Fabric Architecture is known for creating homes that work with and complement their natural environments, and 102 Heath Road is no exception. Set on a sloping site, the home was designed to merge effortlessly with the land rather than “fight against it”, Damien explains. Every element was carefully considered to maximise views of the native gardens and Brisbane Water, ensuring a deep connection to place.
The structure itself is a study in balance, with off-form concrete and stone elements grounding the building and lighter materials elevating the design as it moves up the block - while charred timber cladding reflects the surrounding bushland and harsh Australian climate, offering both
aesthetic harmony and improved resilience. Cantilevered roofs balance the home's scale, and its materiality, along with other carefully designed elements, brings a sense of lightness and array of practical benefits to the home. Planter boxes at key touchpoints further help blend the home’s structure with its surroundings, reinforcing the idea that the home is an extension of its setting rather than an interruption of it.
The collaboration between BBM Constructions and Fabric Architecture has resulted in a home that is both personal and enduring, seamlessly integrating with its surroundings.
