MATTY MARSHALL

ON DIVERSITY, INCLUSIVITY & EQUITY

CSM: Explain what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you and why they’re important. Every culture, nationality and person in the world sees it in a different way and light, when we all share these views and perspective great things can happen.

CSM: What is the most challenging aspect of working in a diverse environment?

The most challenging aspect of a diverse working environment is accepting and embracing all the differences that come with it. It can be difficult simply just trying to fit, speaking up or feeling valued but conducts yourself in the right way you can overcome these challenges.

CSM: What is your approach to understanding the perspectives of colleagues from different backgrounds?

Being a good listener is extremely important. Being able to digest someone else’s point of view and put yourself in their shoes really helps you see things from a different perspective.

CSM: How would you advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion with brands or companies that don’t understand its importance? Education will give a strong starting point to help understand why this is important in all walks of life. This will help increase awareness and encourage others to speak out.

CSM: Discuss a time when you advocated for diversity and inclusion.

As a football player myself, we have always advocated from anyone from any walk of life to come a game of football with friends. This helps break down those barriers through sport and a game we all love.

CSM: Describe an ideal brand that has a sense of inclusion, belonging, and equity on a daily basis?

Maharishi does a great job of inclusion and diversity, where it always uses a diverse selection of models for its runways and collections in terms of age and ethnicity.

CSM: What steps will you take to eliminate bias from other brands or companies?

Modernizing my approach to brands and companies is a keyway I use to help eliminate bias - using new and creative ways to connect with people and get my work out there.
