Hello! ¡Hola! Koša mona!
I’m Andrea, the new volunteer at the CMK centre in Koper. I’m 25 years old and I come from Spain, specifically from Valladolid, a city that’s in the center of the country which is not really attractive to Spanish people (so imagine for foreigners).
I arrived in Slovenia at the end of November, and I’m still getting used to the fact that it gets dark at 4:30 pm in winter. It’s a shock that I already knew about it, but it’s still hard for me.
Fulfilling a little bit the Spanish stereotype, I consider myself to be quite sociable, I speak a bit loud, I pronounce the “h” in English very strongly and my lunch schedules are unstable, but I never eat at 12 am. Although I really enjoy meeting new people, I also enjoy spending time alone with my hobbies of an older person. I love reading, cinema, going for walks and anything related to graphic design and being chill while listening to music.
I have studied things that don’t have many job opportunities, Humanities (yes, it’s a university degree) and Graphic Design.
I am passionate about everything related to culture and publishing, and one of my biggest hobbies is also the world of fanzines and self-publishing.
The reason why I chose Slovenia it’s because I’m really interested in the balkan region, I have always wanted to know more about the culture and history here. People around me didn’t really understand why I decided to come to this region, they didn’t see the “attraction” compared to other possible European destinations, but for me it was my main destination.
In fact, it took some time for my family to know for sure that I was going to live in Slovenia and not in Slovakia.
Although I haven’t been here for a long time, I have to say that I’m loving Slovenia and Koper. I have already visited quite a few cities and I can’t wait to get to know a bit more and go beyond the borders.
Something very important that I have learned in this short time is how to ask for a burek with cheese in Slovenian: Dober dan! Burek s sirom prosim.
