AnnualReport

Dear Friends:

As our 25th anniversary continues, we are reporting on another fiscal year, expressing our many thanks for your contributions to the Foundation. It has been another challenging year, but we proved our resiliency yet again, and it is only improving.

This past year through #Giving Tuesday and our End of Year Campaign, your generosity helped the Farmer’s Market and Food Pantry continue to provide healthy meals. Time and time again, our donors step up to make it possible thank you!

Our role as a trusted partner for the students, teachers, and community, for the long-term, crosses all areas. We are emersed in the school district community more deeply than ever, building new partners and deepening existing relationships

Good things are happening, and we are fortunate to have reached this point of visibility, credibility, and strength. I hope it’s apparent that the Foundation continues to work hard with a highly effective team in place, including Dr. Albert Catarro, who is transitioning into the position of Executive Director -all thanks to our Board of Directors.

Our fundraisers, grant programs, and EITC programs continue to thrive. We had so much to be thankful for in 2021 22, including your continued support of our work. Gratefully, our work continues with all of your contributions, no matter how big or small. Our students, teachers, and community count on it, and you are making a difference in the lives of our students. THANK YOU! www.centennialef.org

William Tennent High School Empowering From Within Assembly and Wheelchair Rugby

IgnacioJayoandTeneishaReach

AJ Nanayakkara, Global Accessibility Compliance Lead for Facebook, has led the "Empowering from Within" assembly for our senior class at Tennent for the better part of the last decade. AJ is a motivational speaker and an accomplished wheelchair athlete AJ leads this assembly alongside William Tennent graduates Melissa Nunn and Bob Richey These three speakers will lead the Senior Class in a discussion about facing the unexpected, shaping identity, and overcoming obstacles, using their perspective as quadriplegics living in an "able bodied" world. Melissa, Bob, and AJ are eager to share personal struggles with sustaining spinal cord injuries, resiliency, and community reintegration Equally, they will share the importance of self expression, hobbies, and staying active, especially with adapted sports Melissa, Bob, and AJ have motivated WTHS Students to organize S.T.R.E.N.G.T.H., our social/cultural awareness club. The name was inspired by a photograph taken by Melissa Nunn; it presents various parts of her wheelchair organized to spell the word

#STRENGTH S T R E N G T H works year-round to organize Disability Awareness Day and the Wheelchair Rugby game; a large scale event inclusive of diverse populations in our school and community. This year, we would like to continue this effort for the William Tennent High School senior class.

Fun Fact -- The CEF Board gets to know the ins and outs of the mini-grants each year but the great stories do not make it very far in the community. We are proud to share some stories from this past year's recipients, showing all the diverse learning in the Centennial School District www.centennialef.org

Food Wars is a concept that is really two different competitions rolled into one. For the past few years, 8th graders have participated in “Cupcake Wars.” This right of passage begins with the STEM class and Family and Consumer Science (FCS) classes teaming up in small groups. Each group creates a theme that interests them They discuss what kind of cupcakes they will make to fit the theme, making decisions on everything from cupcake and icing flavors and colors to what kind of wrapper they will bake them in The group will then collaborate on what their display will look like. Every great cooking show has a flair of presentation As the FCS classes begin with selecting the right recipe to bake with, the STEM class begins with sketches and designs of their display. They need to choose the right materials and colors to fit the theme that the whole group collaborated on. When everything comes together, both groups present their final display to faculty judges for judging on taste, smell, look, and overall theme It is a huge undertaking for our students, they have a blast, and everybody eats cupcakes!

McDonald Elementary School Crayons for Diversity

Jacklyn Morrison

As written by Jerry Spinelli in the children's chapter book Maniac Magee, "the (skin) colors he (Maniac Magee) found were gingersnap and light fudge and dark fudge and acorn and butter rum and cinnamon and burnt orange.” Our students, their families & friends, and the people of the world encompass a beautiful array of skin colors, but the typical box of crayons limits our students to choose from peach, tan, and brown for skin tone when coloring. How wonderful would it be for students to have access to a range of crayon colors as diverse as those described by Spinellias diverse as the color of their skin! The Crayola company's 24 count box of Colors of the World crayons offers users a range of skin tone crayons that can be used independently or blended to create colors to match the variety of skin colors in our students' world. Colors span from light almond, to olive, to rose, to deep golden shades. Through the grant, 4 to 5 boxes of crayons would be purchased for each classroom so that children can use them as needed throughout the year when coloring people for assignments or on their own during indoor recess. Providing our children with crayon color options for skin tones closer to that of their own will benefit all children in our school building while supporting Centennial School District's equity and equality initiatives.

FinancialPerformance

Our financial report is a comprehensive report on CEF's activities throughout the fiscal year, ending June 30, 2022. It is intended to give our supporters and other interested people information about the CEF's activities and financial performance.

Given the slow return from the pandemic, the Foundation has not had the opportunity to maximize its revenue opportunities. We are hopeful for the upcoming year.

Creative Giving

The SECURE Act increased the RMD (Required Minimum Distribution) age from 70 1/2 to 72. Fortunately, you can still make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) at 70 1/2.

You can make a distribution from an IRA directly to CEF (charity). You don't pay any taxes and CEF gets the entire distribution. It's a great way to support the students and teachers of Centennial School District.

Why make a gift to CEF with your IRA?

- Rollover can qualify for your required minimum distribution.

- You can reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.

How it Works

- The gift must be made on or before December 31 of the tax year.

- You must be 70 1/2 or older at the time of your gift.

- Transfers must be made directly by your IRA administrator to CEF.

- Gifts must be outright. The rollover must be from a traditional IRA, not a 401(K), 403(b), or other retirement plan.

CEF does not provide tax, legal or financial services. Please consult you own advisors regarding your specific circumstances.
