As I embarked on directing and choreographing Centenary Stage Company's production of A Christmas Carol: The Musical, I knew I wanted to approach this classic tale with a fresh and innovative perspective. My initial question to myself was, "What would 10-yearold Michael want to see onstage when watching A Christmas Carol?"
Despite the familiarity of Charles Dickens' story, I was determined to explore new ways to tell this timeless narrative, particularly for an audience that may not have read the book or seen the numerous movie adaptations. My goal was to reimagine the story through new eyes, making it accessible and engaging for a diverse audience.
My take on A Christmas Carol involves delving into the darker aspects of the ghost story, highlighting the stark contrast between light and darkness. This approach allows the audience to experience the transformative journey of Ebenezer Scrooge in a more nuanced and captivating way. By embracing the shadows and the spectral elements, we create a richer, more immersive theatrical experience that resonates deeply with both old and new fans of the story.
I am immensely proud of the cast, crew, and production team of A Christmas Carol for their unwavering dedication to detail and their tireless efforts in bringing my vision to life. From the first day of rehearsals, their commitment to excellence has been inspiring, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a talented and passionate group of individuals.
As we present this production, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved. Your hard work and creativity have made this production a true holiday spectacle. To our audience, I wish you a safe and joyous holiday season and a happy new year. May the spirit of A Christmas Carol inspire you to reflect on the importance of kindness, compassion, and the transformative power of human connection.
Dear Cast, Family and Friends,
As we gather to celebrate this holiday season through “A Christmas Carol”, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey that has led to this production and to thank every one of you for being part of it.
This show represents a culmination of hard work, passion, and perseverance. As an actor, I’ve had the privilege of working with an extraordinarily talented cast, crew, and team of creatives who have poured their hearts into this production. I would like to take this moment to recognize the class of 2025 and how we have worked so hard throughout the past four years to get to a moment like this. I am honored to have worked with every single one of you.
I’m reminded of my own journey, one that has been shaped by both triumphs and struggles, and how each experience has led me to this amazing opportunity. My path has not always been easy there have been setbacks, challenges, and moments of doubt. But it is through these very struggles that I’ve learned the importance of collaboration, resilience, and trust in the creative process. Those lessons have been at the heart of this show, and I believe they are reflected in every scene, every line, and every moment of our performance.
From the actors who have brought these iconic characters to life, to the behind-the-scenes crew who have made the magic possible, to the audience who supports us, you all play an essential role in this shared experience. I hope that as you watch this show unfold, you’ll feel the same sense of gratitude, wonder, and connection that I feel every time I see the magic we’ve created together.
Happy Holidays and thank you once again for your incredible support.
