SPRING BREAK EATERIES Wednesday thru Saturday. Even though Buford’s is closed on Monday and Tuesday,
Spring break is quickly
approaching and for many
college students, meal planning is the last thing
on their to-do lists before leaving.

booking push eating to the back seat, which is why I have compiled a list of places to eat in Gulf Shores. This way no one goes too long without some sort of sustenance to balance out all the alcohol fun you are about to have.
Breakfast isn’t a top-priority on spring break for most college students since most
wake up past noon. Anyway, for those early risers, here are some delicious places to grab pancakes, coffee and even beignets.
Café Beignets of Alabama is the closest thing you will find to the golden fried-
dough covered in decadent powdered sugar you can get in Louisiana. They serve only beignets and coffee, but according to critics reviews, that is all they need to
serve since the beignets are authentic and made-to-order. If you have a wad of cash left over from your midnight run to McDonald’s, this is the place for you since they
only take cash. Located in both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Café Beignets of Alabama is open Monday thru Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
Kitty’s Kafe is the place to go if you need a more substantial meal in your system
to start off a long, hot day on the beach. Kitty’s serves everything you can think of from eggs and bacon to oatmeal and pork chops. It’s also decently priced for us college students. It is open every day of the week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located
off Gulf Shores Parkway. With free Wi-Fi, this is the perfect place to take a break and upload all of the awesome pictures from the day before.
Now, moving on to lunch. The Flying Harpoon serves up poboys, gumbo and
hand cut potato chips as a side, all while keeping a fun atmosphere. With an outdoor
and waterfront seating arrangement, this is a good lunch spot to soak up even more sun than you already have. The Flying Harpoon offers happy hour (for those over 21) and is open for lunch, dinner and late night snacking every day of the week.
According to critics on Urban Spoon, this spot is a “great little beach joint” and the atmosphere is “quirky and friendly.”
If you are looking for a small, but fun getaway, I suggest Toby Keith’s I Love This
Bar & Grill. Although located in Orange Beach, it is only a short drive from Gulf Shores and will provide the whole group with a fun adventure. It’s touristy, but
this bar and grill offers unbelievable live music and late night festivities. It is open
every day of the week and serves American food like hamburgers, steaks, french fries, etc. You might even catch a glimpse of Toby Keith.
Dinner is probably the most important meal of the day on spring break, because
we all know the night won’t end for at least a couple more hours. With a 96 percent
approval rating on Urban Spoon, Buford’s Smokehouse BBQ is apparently the place to eat. It is only open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, but from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
the ribs and potato salad are a must try. Buford’s is located on Gulf Shores Parkway. If you are looking for something familiar, New Orleans-based Acme Oyster House
opened in March on the Intracoastal Waterway. It is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday thru Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. You can find oysters of
any shape and size, poboys, crab claws and gumbo; as well as a great atmosphere and fun locals.
Last but certainly not least…dessert. According to the Advocate.com, located in
the Pelican Place Shopping Center is the state’s first liquid nitrogen ice cream shop dubbed “Liquid Freeze”. Opened in February, this ice cream shop provides patrons
with flavors like strawberry cheesecake and key lime pie. But that is not all; they
also have milkshakes, floats and smoothies to soothe your quenched mouth after the hours spent on the beach.
This list gives each spring breaker a guide to different restaurants for every meal
of the day, so there is no excuse to not have a great time and eat wonderful food while hanging with your friends and getting wickedly tan.
