EXPLORERS 2020 MAGAZINE

Page 1

Explorers travel a path with incognizant knowingness of what awaits ahead of them. They are driven by their undying desire to discover a bountiful island, an exceptional food ingredient, or even a potential planet an earthling can live in. They fearlessly dove into a deep sea of risk, traversed the labyrinth of the unknown paths, and utilized the stars to estimate their locations. This year’s magazine cover depicts the path only true explorers discovered. Delve into every page of the magazine, and you will definitely be amazed of how Einsteinians of the Generation Alpha discover their prowesses for greater heights.

To breathe. To wander. To explore. We all want an escape. For centuries, humanity has always been in search-- from the land before history, to an age of knights and chivalry, and to the millennium we call today. Fifty years ago, we pioneered a path to the moon. The trail we blazed cut through the fictions of science, and showed us all what was possible. Today, our calling to explore is even greater. To go farther, we must be able to sustain missions of greater distance and duration. We must use the resources we find at our destinations; we must overcome radiation, isolation, gravity, and extreme environments like never before. We must explore beyond the limits that life has set for us. “Explorers don’t follow paths; they discover them.” Who knows where we’d end up?

In a bid to inform you about the events befalling inside and outside the school campus and show the students’ prowess in writing, the Einstein Circle of Shakespeare published this school magazine.

As the editor-in-chief for this year’s school magazine, I encourage you to stand out, be unique and don’t just follow what others intend you to do. Make your own destiny and explore beyond limits. Venture.

Christmas like never before: Hello, 2020!

Have you ever watched “Home Alone”? Well, if you have, then that means you know that whenever things go south for the protagonist, he always ends up back to his family. No matter how far he is from his family, filial love will always prevail.

Last December 2019, the Religious Youth in Action (RYA) held various events to give tribute and honor to God. Life is short that is why we have to make the most out of it. When we discovered that Manang Carms had been diagnosed with cancer, the school immediately sent out letters to the parents of the students to ask for financial help. With great love and effort, the school was able to raise a large amount of money. The school also held a competition for the best Christmas tree and candle stand headed by the RYA officers headed by Josef Mozart Cabanlit, the president. It was a close competition, and the winners from each division for the best Christmas trees were Grades 10, 6, 2, Kinder/Nurs-

ery PM, and for the best candle stands were Grades 10, 6, 4, and Kinder/Nursery AM. If you witnessed them, you would be very astonished and fascinated by the work of each class.

Furthermore, each class performed beautiful Christmas carols in English and Filipino. There were also speeches delivered by the class president and the class adviser. With a little time to prepare, the Einsteinians were able to make such magnificent numbers encouraging Sir Ed to give grades higher than 95. The Grades 8, 5, 2, Kinder/ Nursery AM were the winners of the said event. Furthermore, Sir Ed also held a quiz bee after each performance to test the knowledge of the students about Christmas. In this competition, the Grades 8, 7, 2, Kinder/Nursery AM were hailed the winners.

On Saturday, the awarding of the winners for the different Christmas activities took place. For the overall ranking, the Grade 2 notcehd 1st, the Grade 10 ranked 2nd, and the Grades 8 and 1 tied at the 3rd

This moment came and it was time to put an end to the program; and indeed, it ended with immense triumph as the Einsteinians rejoiced.

COL forefronts clean-up drive

To sustain the cleanliness around the vicinity of the school, the Council of Leaders from the batch of the Explorers headed the clean-up drive on September 28, 2019. The club presidents and vice presidents from the Explorers and Geniuses, together with the other officers from the Visionaries, Stalwarts, and the faculty members participated in the aforementioned event. They cleaned the roads surrounding

the school. These were Thomas Edison Road, Albert Einstein Road, and Marie Curie Road.

After the tiring but fulfilling event, they were all thankful as Sir Ed gave them that kind of environmental activity. As the common adage says and I quote, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” With great teamwork and genuine aspiration to care for the environment, the event successfully ended.

Every year, the Einstein Circle of Shakespeare pays tribute to the outgoing Council of Leaders who have served as the personifications of the core values of the school. Conforming to this tribute, I was so grateful that I was given this gratifying opportunity to forefront this homage for our dear Council of Leaders. When I was given this task, I hastily jotted down possible concepts, but nothing appeared to be different from the previous batches. I consulted my friends, until a wonderful idea had crossed our minds.

As we began to brainstorm, the ideas started to broaden our cognizance. Rationalizing the possible concepts, we all agreed with wearing attires relevant to the clubs. After

having agreed with the concept, we continued thinking about the content of this article.

“Imagine a person notable enough. Form a perceptual image of his appearance, physique, and complexion. There, you will be enthralled by the depiction emanating in your mind.” These were my lines after I had realized I have never been this inquisitive about what does it mean to be somebody whom people might give him hackneyed descriptions or atypical ones.

Our dear readers, I am so proud to share with you what the club presidents think about an explorer. Delve beyond the lines, and appreciate the thoughts in Council of Leaders’ mind’s eye.

Europeans led to the discoveries of archipelagos around the world. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the surface of the moon. Pythagoras was hailed as the first true mathematician and the first known individual to whom a mathematical discovery has been attributed. These important individuals played such a big role in our reality. They`ve proven that the sky isn`t the limit and they are called explorers. To become a true explorer you must be patient. If you`re not patient enough you can`t go far. Second, you must be curious. Your mind must be open for new ideas and must always think outside the box and reach the unreachable. After all of that, you`ll never regret that you`ve dove deeper and went out of your comfort zone because nothing tastes better than a sweet victory. This is a world full of baffling mysteries and unsolved riddles, treat this world as your own because a true Explorer never stop exploring.

ABDEL-JALIL ESCANDER JR.

Senior Class Association President

I believe that an explorer is a person who explores

the untouched part of their spirit, not just some physical location on the map. By that definition, every single one of us has the potential to be an explorer. Being an explorer means that you must have the will to seek knowledge. You need to have a vision, an idea that differs from most others. You have to believe that you can make a difference. You don’t have to be perfect to be an explorer. Just be you and don’t listen to the negative assumptions of people going through your life.

Citizenship Advancement Training

A true explorer must have courage and faith in discovering things on his own. However, it’s not only about discovery, but also learning from the experiences you got from the exploration. It takes time, so you have to be patient and hopeful in the process. You have to be keen and very open-minded. Trust in yourself when taking risks. Sometimes, you may be lost in your way, but that’s part of the process and trials. But once you remember, why are you even searching for the truth or things if you will come up there. To be true explorer, it’s continuous. You shouldn’t be contented instead you’d keep searching.

FERHAN AMIR MALENDO

Mathematics Society President

The word “explore” can hold different meanings for different people. For me, to explore great lands, seas and infinite space, we must first explore within ourselves. Always remember that we, human beings, are one of the most complex creations God has ever made. We must unlock every potential that may be hidden deep into our minds and souls. Appreciate and accept them for whatever they may be. Utilize them to expand your options on how to make the world a better place. Only then will we be able to reach greater heights and truly make a difference as the next leaders of our generation.

An explorer is someone who sets out to discover something by going somewhere unfamiliar. Life is full of mysteries. There are still a lot of things to be discovered. There might be unknown species deep in the ocean, hidden treasures of the past, extraterrestrial beings from other planets, abandoned ancient civilizations, or even other worlds that are left to be explored. Who knows? Maybe year from now, your name will be known for achieving something that can change the shape of humanity. To be an explorer, you must have the determination to keep moving forward, courage to surpass any obstacle, and passion to achieve something admirable. Life is like a book; you won’t be satisfied unless you explore.

An explorer is someone you can define as being adventurous and willing to find a world where everything is different. However, this definition does not show the limits of being an explorer because when you are an explorer, you have the confidence to look for various discoveries. Moreover, you are eager to be put on the spot where everything is unfamiliar to you. This will teach you to be versatile and flexible. That is the essence of being an explorer. Tt will teach you lessons that you could use for a purpose; it will mold your capacity and prepare you to do greater things to provide to society. Sometimes, you will fail from your exploration or sometimes your adventure does not have the best directions, but one thing is for sure. No matter how far you are, no matter how lost you are, no matter how tired you are, you will still reach your destination because this is what it takes to be an explorer—you never give up.

Explorer: searches for lost islands and treasures, finds what has been missing in the eyes and arms of many. That is not just it for there is a whole lot more to being an “explorer”. As we traverse the bewildering intersections of life, brimming with various opinions, ideas, and beliefs, one tends to follow what the majority follows just to avoid complexity. To be an explorer, you need to look at the everything with a fresh eye and in different perspectives for this world holds endless possibilities. Be someone who would go beyond his ways finding better ways to improvise, sustain, ad build new contraptions and mechanisms. The world needs people who cross the limits life has set for them and dream beyond what the eyes could already see. They could be anyone even the ones you might find surprising. We need to find them for the world needs explorers—exploring beyond limits and venturing into the unknown.

In being a true explorer, you need to explore yourself first by conquering your own fears. We must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. We must also try new and unique things to discover especially while we are still young, wild and free. You can only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. And by doing that, you can already see the dreams and goals you truly want to achieve in life. Time is not going to wait for you, so what are you waiting for? Go out and take a look, meet more people. Travel. Don’t give yourself a chance to regret later. There’s a whole world out there waiting to be explored.

It takes a curious and creative mind, driven by determination, to make a difference that makes an explorer seek for more knowledge to discover things and share such discoveries to inspire others to be the best versions of themselves. It requires you to be mentally and physically tough in order for you to overcome the challenges and hardships to be encountered as you journey to the unknown. We, the Explorers, have survived the challenges and hardships of high school life because of our determination and belief that in unity there is always strength.

When you hear the word “explorer”, an image of a famous explorer pops inside your mind, like Christopher Columbus, Ibn Battuta, Daniel Boone, or someone else. In reality, anyone can be an explorer, you just have to believe it. Who knows, maybe you are an explorer yourself and didn’t even recognized it yet. An explorer is a curious and passionate person who dreams of discovering what is beyond their reach like exploring the space, the ocean, or the land, or maybe exploring the microscopic world that is hidden from the naked eye. You might have said that you haven’t started a journey yet, that’s incorrect, because you may not know it yourself but think of life as a flowing river with endless paths. Who knows what’s in the future, it is up to you which path are you going to follow.

OUTSTRIP the Stereotype

For over 37 years of effulgence, radiating around the loci of science and mathematics, there is no school that is akin to what most of all consider the best school in Cotabato City, Albert Einstein School. Intervening anyone around the city about what the aforementioned school’s concentrations are, they would likely be unanimous in telling that AES excels mostly in science and mathematics. To break the undying stereotype and prove that AES shines in any field, there is a quintessential event worthy of remembrance and appreciation in which AES participated in. July 28, 2019—With the campers’ spirits lifted and game faces on, they continued on the 3rd day of their camp, exhilarated and thrilled for the sun to set along with the Einsteinians who couldn’t wait for the for the Sundown Spectacle (Entertainment Night)— a program where the contestants could show off their prowess in two respective fields: Bersikulo; a speech choir competition, and the Cosplay Competition. Albert Einstein School (AES) dared to join the former. Determination. Perseverance. Hard work. AES paved their way into the nationals for the speech choir competition by pouring blood and sweat, practicing day and night, striving to be the best. Bringing the colors of Maguindanao as they finished performing their piece, they were applauded by the audience, including the judges. It was time to wrap up the program— and

the announcements were made. And to their delight, AES stole the show landing first place and bagging the title of the champion in the aforementioned contest. The school notched all four titles in total: Concordance Award (Best in Choreography), Splendor Award (Best in Props and Costume), and Prominence Award (Best in Facebook Reactions, Views, and Shares), and the major award: Podium Award (Speech Choir Champion). The team is composed of 11 participants from the batch of the Explorers namely: Josef Cabanlit, Aiman Lintang, Abdel Escander Jr., Mohammad Ganduan, Luis Valescas, Ylysha Akas, Aliah Alauya, Naveen Ferolino, Aaliyah Mangelen, Bianca Redoble, and Athena Sarigan and four from the batch of the Geniuses: Nur Escander, Lei Valencia, Khasandra Gan,i and Rahajita Mohammad having a total of 15 participants in all. Their triumph wouldn’t be possible without their creative choreographer, Sir Yoyong Acosta, their fastiduous teacher coaches, Sir John-Jeo Cejudo and Ma’am Iluminda Abasolo, school principal Ma’am Florence Buat, faculty and staff, and of course, their ever-supportive and loving parents. Above all, this triumph proved that AES got ahead of the stereotypes. This is indeed a great manifestation that the school equips students with the immense spirit to excel in any competition. Congratulations to the new hall of famers! Long live, Albert Einstein School! Sigay ka, Cotabato City!

It has been known nationwide how academically inclined the Einsteinians are. This year, a team of Einsteinians has proven themselves once again. Nevertheless, attaining sweet and glorious things isn't just a piece of cake.

On the 27th day of July 2018, campers Meilsha Hakima Maniri and Bai Shahana Sabang garnered 5th runner-up in the PSYSC National Science Quiz Bee. The two campers passed the elimination round, along with nine other pairs of contestants, which was held the day prior. Moreover, Meilsha Maniri was entitled as the Top Scorer for the written elimination, making her peers proud. By reviewing books and various study materials, copious days and nights were spent by the team together with their teacher- coaches Ma’am Omairah Yusop, Ma’am Apasrah Tabujara, and Ma'am Iluminda Abasolo. The subtopics included in the quiz

bee were energy production, energy conversion, energy utilization, and information infrastructure in accordance to this year’s National Youth Science, Technology, and Environment Summer Camp (NYSTESC) theme— Synergon: Initializing the Power Protocols. The quizzers scored 6 points in the easy round, 10 points for the average round and 35 points for the difficult round for a total of 51 points.

The team duo might have started low, but they never lost hope. They encompassed all the challenges and hooked the title of 5th runner up at the end. It was an overall great team effort. The Einsteinians, faculty and staff, and their parents are prouder than ever of their achievement. The early morning and late night reviews were definitely worth it and recognized, along with their undying determination and perseverance.

Unexpected Triumph

of the First Hall of Famer, Champion in Poster Making Contest

Success. Hard work. Perseverance. Way back 2016, Albert Einstein School got its first ever Hall of Famer in the battle of great artists all over the Philippines, the Poster Making, which was represented by Bajury Mustapha, from the batch of the Dreamers 2017 who ranked 1st runner up. This year, another milestone happened as it garnered its first-ever national champion.

The poster making, with the theme of “Renewable Energy Mitigating Energy Scarcity”, was a brilliant and successful outcome as Bai Saadiyah Mahmur A. Sinsuat, from the batch of the Geniuses 2021, ar-

tistically and excellently showcased the theme in her art piece which made her the champion. “I never even expected to be on the top three especially to be the champion. Transcending above the art pieces of over 40 other competitive contestants still feels surreal.” With the unconditional love and support of her parents, teachers, co-Einsteinians, Explorers 2020, and her batch, her success was made possible. Her win makes her the first-ever champion in the history of Albert Einstein School, making her triumph a remarkable one, representing not only Albert Einstein School but also Cotabato City.

With hard work comes a worth commending success. Albert Einstein School never settles for less and always soars high with magnificent colors in cloud nine. It furnishes individuals to be equipped and excellent in different as-pects aside from academics and compete with anyone nationwide. This year, with Aragorn Javelosa being the chosen representative for the editorial cartoon-ing contest in the National Youth Science, Technology, and Environment Summer Camp (NYSTESC), AES came home with a head up high and an unbreakably genuine wide smile.

The editorial cartooning competition was held in the very first day of the 4-day camp, along with the other individual contests. Fingers crossed, he was an-nounced the champion, outclashing the other great and tough

contenders. De-spite a very challenging completion, his talent stood out among everyone which brought another triumph to him and his family and the school as well. Moreover, his applauded victory made history as he's now one of the school’s competition champions, making his win a momentous one. Without his coaches, including Sir Johamin Inok, and his family both at home and in school, his conquest wouldn’t be as sweet as a mousse cake.

Truly, the Einsteinians’ blood never diminishes as this success exists as one of the living proofs that the Einsteinians excel both in academic and non-academic. They are competent enough to be capable of surpassing students from other schools all around the country. Through the flow of the ink from his mind to his pen, Javelosa transcends above all.

Isn’t mother nature astonishingly great? The peaceful sounds of the birds singing, the cool breeze of wind blowing, and the tall grasses swaying give a refreshing feeling to the body. Alamada, a municipality in the province of North Cotabato, was named after the chieftain Datu Alamada. It is a home to one of the most amazing and stunning attractions to visit to like the famous and most talked Asik-Asik falls and Mount Opao. The Tent City in Alamada isn’t just like any local cities you would find in Mindanao because of its natural landscape that surrounds the area gives a feeling of ecstasy and relief. It is unique because you can either bring a tent or rent one if you stay overnight. This is a popular tourist attraction for the locals who want to take a break from the industrial life and wants to try experiencing a relaxing and memoravle day where you get to wake up to a cold fog and have a spec-

tacular view of the vast landscape. When you bring your own tent, a night of stay costs 600 pesos, otherwise 700. Staying here is definitely worth it especially in de-stressing and playing from the noise of the world for a second.

Feeling intrigued? Before taking this enjoyable activity of hiking up to Tent City, I recommend bringing something to keep you warm like a sweater, or perhaps a cozy jacket. Since it is found somewhere high up, it is colder. The sound of the continuous horns and running engines of cars is nothing compared to the rushing sound of water in the provinces.

Alamada is a place I highly recommend when you need time for yourself, or when you’re on a vacation. Tourists from all around the nation come here to feel the exhilarating cuddle of nature itself. If you want a place without the toxicity of the life you used to live in, I recommend you come to the city hidden in fogs— the Tent City in Alamada.
