This installation managed to provide seating for seven people in a very small room

For this project, Electronic Living converted a spare bedroom in an existing property into a home cinema. The problem this presented was immediately apparent: the room had an incredibly small footprint, which CEDIA’s judges noted was a very challenging space in which to work. Still, the integrator managed to provide seating for seven people and preserve intuitive traffic patterns in and out of the space.

As a “habitable room,” local law demanded that a functioning window remain. A blockout blind was installed to reduce ambient light. Additionally, as costs began to mount, the client shifted the room’s audio system from an immersive one to a 7.1-surround system. Planning for the future, the integrator added the cabling needed if and when the owner makes an upgrade to 3D sound.

The HVAC system that was already present was incorporated into the design, and an air supply vent was moved to the front of the room. Viewers aren’t bothered by a blast of air, and a dampener prevents air turbulence from interfering with the film experience during quiet scenes. Simplicity of use was also a key part of the project. Electronic Living’s team said, “The room would need to fully function from both iPhone and iPad for simplicity — and also mimic the operation of all other zones in the home.”
