help with course fees do i need to pay fees? Depending on your circumstances and/or which course you wish to take there may be a fee to pay for your course. If you do have to pay your own fees there are a number of ways you can pay. This could be with a loan (details on page 9) or we can help spread the payments out with an interest free payment plan. You don’t need to pay tuition fees for a basic literacy or numeracy course, no matter what your age. You also don’t need to pay for the following, depending on your age: •
Training that leads to your first level 2 qualification (the equivalent of five GCSEs at grades A* to C), if you’re under 24 years at the start of your course
•
Your first full level 3 qualification (the equivalent of two A level passes), if you’re under 24 years old at the start of your course
unemployed or on benefits? If you are aged 19 and above and are unemployed or receiving benefits, you may be able to study for free or receive a discounted rate if you are studying below level 3.

advanced learner loans If you are 19 or over and want to study a course at level 3 or above, you will probably qualify for an Advanced Learning Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you will not have to make any repayments until your income is over £21,000 a year. You can apply for a loan from May 2016 for courses starting between 1 August 2016 and 31 July 2017. Once your place on your chosen course is confirmed, you will be invited to enrol and obtain a Learning and Funding Information Letter which has all the information you will need to make a loan application. ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION Our Access to Higher Education courses are designed for adults who want to enter Higher Education but may not have the usual qualifications such as A-levels. They are accredited through Laser Learning Awards and will help you develop the skills you need to prepare for university. The courses are 2 days per week in college. There is an alternative option of 2 evenings per week for the Nursing and Healthcare Professions course. If you have not yet completed a level 3 course there are no fees for our Access courses. If you take a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan to complete your Access course and subsequently complete a higher education course at university you will not have to pay the loan back.

where to find us City college is at the heart of southampton Our main campus is centrally located making it a great place to study and easy to get to. It’s just a short walk from the parks, cinemas, cafes and shops (including West Quay). Being in the centre of the city there are a number of ways you can travel to college whether you live in Southampton or further afield.
