About Us

Our School

Cedar Hill Prep provides an excellent early childhood education. The lessons presented in our school are structured to encourage students to become and remain active participants in their own development and learning. We observe, identify and address the needs of each of our children and support them in using their current skills as a foundation upon which to build the steps they will climb toward success.

Our school keeps class sizes small and instruction personal, in order to provide research-based learning within a hands-on framework that reduces potential struggles with the development of reading and fine motor skills.

Faculty

Cedar Hill Prep prides itself on the experience, training, compassion, and diversity of its entire faculty. The lower and elementary school teachers bring their years of combined experience as well as the rapport built from working together over time to provide our younger students with a nurturing environment where every child has a voice and each student contributes to the classroom tapestry.

Our teachers make the time and effort to ensure that every day is a unique adventure for the students, full of new social experiences and exposure to fresh academic concepts. CHP’s faculty regularly attend workshops and seminars in order to stay current with the ever-evolving trends of education and the most relevant breakthroughs in childhood learning.

Curriculum

Cedar Hill Prep offers a S.T.E.A.M. based curriculum with a focus on the whole child. No one class takes precedence over another as our teachers work together to provide a multifaceted educational infrastructure. Our students are immersed within our multimedia lesson plans which prepare them to be tomorrow’s global citizens. We pride ourselves on the well-rounded alumni that CHP has produced in our two decades as a school.

Elementary School: Grades 1 - 4

As our students move from the lower school to the elementary school, the scope of their classes expands in accordance with their increasing abilities. Each grade level has a dedicated teacher for math and science, as well as one for language arts and social studies. This is where the foundational skills planted within our earliest grades bloom into a working knowledge that students expound upon from one year at CHP to the next.

Beyond our core curriculum, there are a large number of specialized classes and extracurricular options available to students throughout their time at CHP, with certain after school clubs designed directly for our youngest students.

Specials Art

All students enjoy art classes once a week taught by a certified art teacher. Students use different creative media to inspire their imaginations while building fine motor skills. These skills are further honed in each rising grade, as the students learn how coordination and creativity go hand in hand. Art education is presented thematically and incorporates the holidays and celebrations of all cultures.

Drama

The lower school drama program encourages our youngest community members to explore creativity and self-expression. In class they practice the skills of articulation and movement, as well as learning about the fundamentals of the theater and the various roles available to students, both on stage and behind the scenes, as part of CHP’s seasonal productions. As children grow within CHP these performative verbal skills are directly applied to public speaking based activities like Debate Club or campaigning for an elected position within the school’s House System.

Music

In elementary school, the group setting of choir practice offers children another form of community and a specific sense of belonging. Twice a year, the students have the opportunity to perform for their families and school during the spring and winter concerts.

Physical Education

We promote the importance of fitness to attain a healthy mind and body. Physical education at the early education level focuses on spatial awareness, body awareness, and control and development of motor skills. Our classes help children of all ages enhance their strength, flexibility, and aerobic capacity, while also building self-confidence, and enhancing communication skills through early habits of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Spanish

The objective of the foreign language program is to learn a second language and appreciate the richness of its culture. Children develop good listening skills through music, songs, dance, mime, nursery rhymes, stories, and colorful visual aids. Puppets also play an important role and are used to enhance the language further.

The development of listening skills allows students to recognize and feel the sounds of the language, encouraging them to speak with confidence and understand more deeply the ways in which various languages are used to communicate.

Technology

Computer Science and Technology is available to students in First Grade and up. As the global citizens of tomorrow, children at CHP are able to engage with the latest technology in order to make them fluent in computer literacy. As the students rise to the middle school level, the focus is placed increasingly on coding as a language of its own.

Experiential Learning

A nine-acre school campus makes learning dynamic and continuous for our children. The natural surroundings, playgrounds and free space make spontaneous learning part of their daily experience as they stroll around our campus. The children interact with nature all around them in the context of a variety of classes, from science to art, turning the grounds of the campus itself into a schoolwide classroom.

Celebrating Multicultural and Ethnic Identity

Cedar Hill Prep recognizes the importance of including cultural differences in all aspects of learning. Diversity means much more than racial and ethnic differences. We explore the benefits of diversity and work together to build an ethnically inclusive community in celebration of those differences.

Celebrations on campus include National Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, National French Week, Christmas, Chanukah, and Diwali.
