DYNAMIC EDGE

Urban River System

Dynamic Edge redefines urban water-land relationships, utilizing flooding and erosion to reshape green spaces and foster urban wetland formation along Merri Creek, offering a resilient strategy to mitigate Urban River Syndrome.

ISSUES

Urban River Syndrome (URS), resulting from rapid urbanization and climate change, includes flooding, erosion, ecological degradation, and pollution, significantly threatening urban ecology and residential safety.

DESIGN CONCEPT

By utilizing flooding and erosion creatively through repeating pattern landform, the project guides the river’s meandering pattern as a codesigner to reduce stress on urban riverbanks, fostering wetland formation and water retention.

RESPONSES

Dynamic Edge explores integrating natural water systems and landscape design, with a focus on guidance over restriction.

GREEN NET

Canal Reactivation + Urban Forest

Enhancing the resilience and pollution-absorption capacity of urban parks through canal utilization to interact with micro climates and vegetation.

ISSUES

The Library of Trees Park, despite offering numerous outdoor activities, faces serious air pollution issues, posing potential health risks to park visitors.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The project utilizes canal features to create ultrasound mist, waterfalls, and diverse water landscapes, along with upgraded plant communities, to increase humidity for capturing and depositing dust particles, ultimately improving air quality and park resilience, forming a sustainable natural oxygen bar.

RESPONSES

The project explores new possibilities for urban ecology by coordinating water and land to form a large interconnected system that could extends and connects to urban green spaces, enhancing sustainability and the overall urban ecology.

PAST LETTERS

AIDS Memorial

The project triggers people’s emotions, imagination, and memories by showcasing victims’ items, leading to visual interaction with passersby and tactile engagement.

ISSUES

Gentrification in St Kilda is altering the historical narrative of LGBTQ+ communities, leading to a fading of collective memory and prompting victim families to conceal their grief.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The memorial achieves spontaneous participation by revealing AIDS victims’ personal items through resin bricks connected to the ground, encouraging pedestrian interaction and engagement to the memorial.

RESPONSES

The project seeks to foster a sense of remembrance, empathy, and community support. It responds to the gentrification issue by preserving the memory of LGBTQ communities and providing a space for collective mourning and reflection.

The garden seat has a different curve line and material if compared with the seat in other places. This kind of curve can help people seat more comfortably and relax. The different function of the curve function is how comfortable it is. The seat in the curve or near the road will have a harder line for the seat. About the wood, the material is more suitable for the garden style and easier for designers to bring the unit style for people.
