CURRICULUM VITAE

My name is Cécile, I am an architectual gra duate educated in France with a master’s in architecture from the University of Strasburg. My studies, worshops, and my three years of pro fessional experiences have strenghten my skills and my interest in architecture from initial design to detailed design, in particular for sustainable construction techniques having both theoretical and practical experience in earth and hemp build and low energy design. I have worked on several projects, public buildings as schools, exhi bition building, sports facilities; and on domestic, renovation and home extension projects.

SHELTER IN THE BURREN

TWO IDENTICAL VOLUMES VIEWS AND EXTERIOR SPACESSITE STRUCTURES

Extension and refurbishement of a derelict cottage in the Burren, Co Clare consultant in Haslam&Co Architects

The site is located in the Countryside of the Bur ren, and is composed by dry stone walls, two stone sheds and a vernacular house. The building condition is however poor with both dilapidated roof and subsequently rotting timber floor. The proposed project consists of an ecological refur bishment and an extension of the existing house; the aim is to retain the architectural and historical character of the site. The strategy is to insert an insulated timber box within the refurbished exis ting walls and a new roof is provided. The timber framed box is simple, composed of one bedroom, a large entrance, a bathroom. The existing house is thus retained and respected. A second timber framed box of the same volume is rotated at 90 degrees and is set back from the west façade so as not to erode the sitting and design qualities of the existing house. The junction between those two boxes are designed by a small glazed volume, very transparent. The new extension is an open plan as a kitchen and living room with large ope nings to the landscape on the South and West.

The two boxes are designed in timber framed for ecological reasons; sustainability, use of local wood, thermal efficiency and speed of construction. The roof of the extension refer to agricultural sheds using red corrugated sheets, whereas the roof of the box inserted in the existing walls is covered with slates as existing materials. The exterior cladding of the extension is designed in charred larch for the du rability that this technique allows, and to contrast with the new light coating of the existing house.

EXISTING HOUSE

BUSY VS. QUIET SPACES

The project consists to refurbishing the existing house and building an extension at the rear, opening onto the garden. In the existing house, the organization of the rooms is redesigned for a family of 4. The bedrooms are upstairs, away from the street noise. Another teenage bedroom is in the concealed basement. The ground floor is dedicated to family life: reading, music and stu dy room, kitchen and living room in the extension home. The new small building at the rear of the existing house has a simple shape, designed with bricks and woods, widely open onto the garden through large bay windows. MASTER PLAN

OPEN ONTO THE GARDEN

SINGULAR HOUSE IN DUBLIN

The existing house is located in the north inner city of Dublin, on the other side of the Royal canal. At the mid 19th century, these houses took part of the emerging suburbanisation of Dublin. The architecture is a trademark of the style Late Georgian House: long and narrow plots, two storeys above a concealed basement, brick facades, wrought-iron railings.

architecture competition by ARCHsharing, 2019 with the humanitarian association TECHO Haïti group : Marie KEITH

The L-shaped establishment matches the shape of the south-western parcel. The forecourt is the gathering point for pupils, and is connected to the gallery and courtyard. The layout of the courtyard recreates a traditional lakou shape. The gallery acts like a backbone distributing the classrooms, and is large enough to be multipur pose. The entire building is modular, flexible and adaptable to use, weather and time thanks to the wooden overall structure, partitioned by earth-filled walls. Walls made by joined wood pieces constitute a sub-partition. MASTER PLAN

This project uses only bamboo (a local material in Paraguay). It can be used in different ways; it is suitable for every element of the house. The walls are made of a straw-soil mix (heating efficiency), encased in plaited bamboo (stability). This house is composed of two adaptive entities. “The envelope” forms both a new smooth floor and a roof to protect the “heart” of the house. The floor is perched on stilts, to adapt to any natural terrain.

Inside this free-standing envelope is the house. It has been designed following Le Corbusier’s Modulor principles to optimize the interior spaces.

SECTION - VILLAGE SQUARE AND PROGRAMS DIVERSITY / DAIRY INSERTED IN THE SLOPE

The issue of the project is to create urbanity in the heart of the village of Hôpitaux-Vieux by perpetuating the econo mic activity of the cheese factory, maintaining local shops and services, while generating a social link. The project consists of designing a top and a bottom, in order to take advantage of the slope of the site. Above, the layout of two L-shaped volumes makes it possible to redraw the public space by creating a square and a belvedere, while offering framing of the landscape. The shop, cafe-library, restaurant and accommodation contribute to daily village life. Below the square, the cheese factory is inserted into the slope, minimizing its impact on the landscape and taking advantage of the inertia.

Floating structure in timber and recycled materials group: M.BALLET/ P.BOOS C.LABRUYÈRE M.KEITH S.RUDIOF.VIVIANI/

The Workshop Utopia Practis stook place at Alsace ecomu seum. In teams of 7 architecture students, we had a week to imagine an ideal cabin that could float and move on water. The first objective of this workshop was to promote the local wood, the logs were cut in the sawmill of the ecomuseum. The second objective was to use recycled materials, such as ropes, canvas, crates, collected from a warehouse. And the third objective was to experiment, to test the resistance of materials and to touch the material.
