Barangay 5A - Bankerohan 11,160 Population [2020] – Census

Introduction Site Background The Davao River is considered the largest river in the city and the primary drainage outlet for the waters flowing downward from the eastern slope of Mt. Apo. The river stretches 143 kilometers. Originating from as far as Salug river in San Fernando, Bukidnon, it flows southward along central Davao City before draining to Davao Gulf.

Its area is also the largest among Davao’s watersheds and is also considered to be the third largest river basin in Mindanao.

During pre-colonial times, it was a very important trade route among native tribes. Known then as Tagalook River, the river was under the jurisdiction of Datu Bago, who defended Davao Gulf from Spanish colonizers.

Today, the river is known more popularly as the Davao or Bankerohan River

Site Inventory The Site

The site is approximately 25 hectares and is located at Poblacion District, Davao City. It is part of the stretch of Davao River. The site is adjacent to the Bankerohan Market and Bankerohan Bridge, and most of the buildings in the area are residential and institutional buildings namely University of Immaculate Conception, and Dona Pilar L. Marfori Elementary School.

Site Inventory Current Site Zones As shown in the diagram, the property is 60% covered by residential areas, with the remainder classified as institutional and green zones. The majority of the residents in the region dwell beside the river. These so-called "informal settlers" have been present in the region for some years.

Unfortunately, their current dwellings are made of light scrap materials such as iron sheets and blocks.

When it comes to the settlers' livelihood, it is often concentrated around the Bankerohan market and the Davao River, which is adjacent to the area. Furthermore, because educational institutions are located in the region, students are among the site's users.

With this information, the river's stakeholders are likely to be its inhabitants and students. With the existing river in the vicinity and its users, this gives an excellent chance for a variety of activities along its length to revitalize its vibrancy.

Internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as exterior possibilities and risks, are identified in order to execute optimal design solutions for the location. The current water channel — the river — is the site's greatest strength. It also has untouched green places that may be used for pleasure and relaxation. Visual corridors are strengthened as a result of these advantages, creating a link between the river and its users. However, the site has vulnerabilities as a result of its inhabitants' failure to perform their duties and take proper care of it.

Along with the site's vulnerabilities, emerging threats are discovered, which must be handled and mitigated. These dangers include severe floods in the neighborhood, odors from the market and river owing to poor sanitation, and the possibility of being labeled as a crime hotspot due to the area's established communities. With the Davao River's strong and weak points, it brings great opportunities to establish a thriving and livable Riverine Village.

The layout of the site development plan corresponds to the values, ideals, and character of the people around the site, which adapts to the culture and tradition of the area. Also, it boosts the location's economy by bringing fortune, employment, and possibilities through a diversified and imaginative design.

The project's design concept emphasizes on architecture of connectivity and its role in creating a community where everyone, regardless of age, gender, and status, is welcome to utilize the whole area. With this, it also improves the region's economic standing through the redevelopment of davao river corridor.

Site Circulation PEDESTRIAN FLOW OF TRAFFIC THE ZONES AROUND THE RIVERINE VILLAGE ARE CONNECTED THROUGH A SERIES OF SIDEWALKS. THE SIDEWALKS ARE DESIGNED IN A WAY THAT ENHANCES WALKABILITY AND PRIORITIZES SAFETY BY PROVIDING A HIGH VISIBILITY TREATMENT AT ALL UNCONTROLLED CROSSING LOCATIONS. FURTHERMORE, THE SIDEWALKS

ARE

DESIGNED TO HAVE ADEQUATE SPACE. THIS WAS MADE TO PROVIDE A QUALITY PEDESTRIAN ENVIRONMENT AND BE INCLUSIVE IN A WAY THAT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES CAN SAFELY AND COMFORTABLY USE THE SIDEWALKS AND PATHWAYS WITH EASE, CREATING A SPACE WHERE IT IS INCLUSIVE AND APPEALING AT THE SAME TIME.

THE RIVERINE VILLAGE OFFERS A VARIETY OF TRANSPORTATION MODES TO

THE DESIGNERS PROVIDE BICYCLE LANES ON EVERY ROAD. EACH CYCLE TRACK

IS PROTECTED BY BUFFERED CYCLE LANES TO ENSURE A SAFER ENVIRONMENT

FOR THE CYCLIST. DUE TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BICYCLE LANES ON EVERY

ROAD. THE VARIETY OF TRAVEL CHOICES INCREASES, AND THE STREET

EXPANDS ITS CAPACITY, LESSENING TRAFFIC AND CATERING TO MORE PEOPLE

WITHIN THE VILLAGE.

CAR AND MOTOR FLOW OF TRAFFIC THE RIVERINE VILLAGE OFFERS A 2 LANE 2 WAY ROAD FOR CARS AND MOTOR VEHICLES. THIS WAS PLANNED IN ORDER TO DISCOURAGE THE USAGE OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND ENCOURAGE WALKABILITY. NONETHELESS, THE MOTOR VEHICLES FLOW OF TRAFFIC CONSIDERS THE FLOW OF PEOPLE. AS TRAFFIC IS THE RESULT OF THE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE AND GOODS, THE PRINCIPLE OF THE HIERARCHY OF STREET IS USED, THE PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SPEED THAT PROVIDES DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ACCESS WAS TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
