s Jessica Chastain announced Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen the CFDA Womenswear Designers of the Year this past summer, the twins excitedly hugged their muse, Lauren Hutton, and, then on stage, adoringly thanked each other. The coveted award, which now resides in The Row’s New York office, reminds them daily of how far they’ve come—from aspiring to make the perfect T-shirt in 2006 to a full-fledged line that beat out this year’s veteran nominees (Marc Jacobs and the Proenza Schouler duo). “We plan to grow organically as we have from day one,” says Ashley. Inspired by the beauty of a strong woman, Mary-Kate explains, “The fall collection incorporates classic menswear details in a feminine way.” It’s a familiar study in clean, monochromatic silhouettes with mink adornment here, alligator trim there, and billowing yards of fine cashmere and silk.
