A

s the finale dress of the Rodarte Spring 2009 collection floated down the runway at New York’s Gagosian Gallery, Vogue magazine’s newly engaged West Coast Fashion Editor Lawren Howell sat transfixed. “I luckily knew the designers from work and after the show, I called to see if they thought the dress could be transformed into a wedding gown.” Howell was married to Kristopher Moller last fall in San Francisco in the designers’ answer: a custom Rodarte silk tulle one-shoulder gown layered with inter-worked sequin panels. The dove grey tint, which was achieved using an intricate dip-dye technique, set the tone for the rustic yet refined affair. L.A.’s Gregory Parkinson designed the bridesmaid gowns in a palette of “dusty and destroyed ballet colors,” while guests were shuttled from the chapel to S.F.’s stately Ferry Building in eco-friendly yellow school buses.
