Jonathan Gonzalez, BFA, Theatre You might say CCSU set the stage for Jonathan’s future path. He says he first got a true sense of what CCSU is all about once he got involved in the Theatre program, from which he graduates with a specialization in Performance. “Get started, get involved, join clubs: That, ultimately, is the college experience,” he says. Jonathan’s understanding of theatrical performance covers a range of roles, from actor to set construction. He most recently appeared on stage in “This Random World” in one of the lead roles. Earlier this year, he portrayed the Auditor in Samuel Beckett’s one-act play, “Not I.” For his dedication to the stage, Jonathan received the Departmental Honor Award from the Theatre Department. After graduation, Jonathan says he will continue to develop his acting skills and eventually seek out more acting opportunities.

Sydney Beckwith, BSN, Nursing Using her personal journey as a cancer survivor, Sydney created the Cancer Awareness Club to encourage community learning about cancer and to offer support to CCSU students. The club has since developed community outreach initiatives to further support local organizations and families. Sydney also has recruited students to become bone marrow donors through the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Drive. She was recognized as a Bristol Myers Squibb National Scholar in 2021 and was presented with the CCSU Nightingale Nursing Award for 2022 in recognition of her commitment to professionalism and compassionate care in the clinical setting and the President’s Citation Award for leadership.
