Camden Academy Charter High School’s Economic Toolkit Our Commitment Camden Academy Charter High School was created with one goal in mind, to provide quality education to our youth regardless of race, creed, disability or socioeconomic status. The children of Camden deserve every opportunity afforded to their counterparts in surrounding towns, regardless of financial hardship. Therefore, we find it necessary to provide these financial resources to our parents.

After School Care To meet the needs of our working parents/ guardians, Camden Academy offers after school programs completely free of charge. All students who participate in these programs also receive dinner during after-school programs. Academic Tutoring and Enrichment Academic tutoring and enrichment, including ELL tutoring and college entrance exam prep is offered to every student as part of our after school programs at no charge. More information on programming can be found at amaines.wix.com/promiseacademyasp. In addition, students that are concerned with their academic performance should also seek assistance from their teachers.

College Testing Camden Academy is committed to ensuring that the rising costs associated with applying to college do not, in any way, impede our students’ aspirations of going to college. Our counselors work carefully with students and parents to utilize all available resources. Counselors at Camden Academy work individually with each student as they register for college testing. The College Board (the sponsor of the SAT and SAT II tests) and the ACT have fee waivers available for those that meet certain guidelines, including receipt of free and reduced lunch. Based on our commitment to college access, Camden Academy Charter High School offers a test fee scholarship to all students who do not qualify for a fee waiver under the College Board guidelines. The test fee scholarship will cover the cost of either one ACT or SAT test per student. College Board also permits students who have received testing fee waivers, to send their SAT scores to up to four colleges/universities at no charge. This process is also explained via the link provided above for the SAT Fee Waiver.

College Applications Almost every college and university permits students that meet certain eligibility requirements the ability to apply without payment of an application fee. These requirements are unique to each college and university. Information regarding college application fee waivers is also explained via the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) link below. FAQ College Application Fee Waiver Apply to College for Free (The College Board) If you apply to more than one or two colleges – and you should! – the application fees can really add up. For eligible students, the College Board is providing four college application fee waivers. Many four-year and two-year colleges accept application waivers – view a list of schools that participate in the college application fee waiver process, or use our online search tool. If you registered for the SAT with a fee waiver, then you’re automatically eligible to receive the college application fee waivers. The Common Application The Common Application is a not-for-profit membership organization that is committed to providing reliable services that promote equity, access, and integrity in the college application process. The Common Application serves students, member institutions, and secondary schools by providing applications that students and school officials may submit to any of over 500 member institutions. Membership is open to colleges and universities that promote access by evaluating students using a holistic selection process. Financial Aid Resources and Links · The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - A required form for any student seeking need-based financial aid. Camden Academy provides several opportunities for


students, parents, and alumni to receive individual, professional support during the FAFSA application process.

Office of Federal Student Aid - A resource of the US Department of Education. Learn about different types of financial aid and how to apply for them.

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators - More than 18,000 student financial assistance professionals at approximately 3,000 institutions of higher education, serving over 16 million students. Offering extensive resources for students and parents.

Higher Education Assistance Authority - New Jersey State agency that provides students and families with financial and informational resources, including grants, scholarships, loans, loan redemption programs, a college savings plan and comprehensive outreach programs.

Scholarships To assist in defraying the cost of higher education, Camden Academy awards a number of scholarships to graduating seniors:    

SAT 1000+ - Matches students combined SAT scores of 1000 or more in dollars. Academic Achievement – An award of $1000 is given to students who achieve a GPA >/= 3.0 and SAT > 800, $500 for students with a GPA >/=2.5 and SAT >/= 800. CACHS Board of Trustee Scholarship – Board awards one male and female student who they believe to exemplify a model student. Steve Hrize Award – An award of $1500 to each a male and female student, chosen by the ARK board for their participation in sports and academic achievement.

Students are also encouraged to apply for the multitude of community based scholarships, available to all high school seniors through Naviance Family Connection under the “Colleges” tab. Students who elect to apply for these scholarships will receive step-by-step guidance throughout the scholarship application process.

Advanced Placement (AP) Testing Students enrolled in an Advanced Placement course receiving free and reduced lunch are automatically exempt from payment for Advanced Placement (AP) exams. If you do not qualify for free and reduced lunch, but are concerned about paying for an Advanced Placement examination, please contact Ms. O’Brien at kobrien@camdencsn.org or at (856) 365-1000, ext. 137.

Summer School Programming To help alleviate child care needs in the summer months, Camden Academy offers summer programming, typically running for four weeks throughout the month of July.


Summer programs include High School Prep for freshman and Best Summer Ever, during which Camden County College courses are available to students. All summer programs are offered to all students at no additional cost to the parents / guardians. For a complete list of summer programs, please visit: www.promiseacademycharter.org/summer-programs/

Social Services Camden Academy’s guidance counselors, social workers and psychologist are available to assist students, including those who may be experiencing anxiety due to a traumatic event or due to a transition in school or home. For an appointment or referral, parents can call Mrs. Graham at ygraham@camdencsn.org.
