STINSON BUNGALOW | Stinson Beach, CA Built in the 1960s, this beach house was a family weekender that had never before been renovated. It slowly aged in the marine environment and many of its characteristics became obsolete. Now with new owners, it’s redesigned for today; restored, modern, casual, and more iconic.

Fine craftsmanship, from the carpentry to the metal work to the furnishings were a high priority. It’s a very transparent building from various directions due to the expanses of glass and views of water and mountains. This also maximizes the indoor-outdoor effect and the strong connection to the Stinson setting.

Most of the house was demolished and expanded with the concept that it was a restoration of a mid-century, Bay Area ‘beach house’. Rooms were expanded and altered, roofs lifted, windows and glass doors enlarged. Every interior and exterior element was replaced – from the siding tohefloors, tohefireplace, andtheflora.

The axial breezeway entry from the street establishes a transition from the busy world to a getaway.
