Content / Overview This course is for new managers and team leaders looking for an 'instant use' course in managing and leading teams. It is designed to allow students to acquire key management skills and essential knowledge to boost their performance and that of their team.

The course and can be taken stand-alone or as part of a Higher Apprenticeship in Business and Professional Administration. On completion, students can go on to top up this Level 4 Diploma to an HND in Management.

Following that, students may wish to progress to a full BA Honours degree with a Level 6 'top-up; at Guildford College or elsewhere.

For employers this is an ideal way to develop their management team, preparing the business for the future, freeing up senior managers and owners and training a new generation of leaders. Students learn from each other in class activities as well as from their teachers and tutors. Our knowledgeable staff has over 20 years of real-world experience, often at senior levels within organisations and are also qualified and experienced teachers.

Application Process Application followed by individual interview

Entry Requirements 160 UCAS points as demonstrated by relevant Level 3 qualifications (A Levels, BTEC Level 3 Diploma or equivalent) or recommendation from your employer and relevant work experience evidenced by a satisfactory level in written English and numeracy. You are expected to have achieved Grade C in GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent. It is essential that you have a good grasp of English language.

Assessment Your HNC qualification will be assessed through the submission of written assignments, tests, oral and visual presentations. Case studies based on real situations drawn from industry and from students’ work places bring together all elements of the programme. For certain aspects of the course and in particular if you take the course as part of the Higher Apprenticeship in Business and Professional Administration pathway, your assessment will involve direct observation of working practice, witness testimonies from managers and professional discussion.

Further Studies Top up to a Level 5 HND. Alternatively, you can go on to complete a Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Business Administration. Following that, students may wish to progress to a full BA Hons degree with a Level 6 'top-up' at Guildford College or elsewhere. In addition, students may elect to take professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, Association of Accounting Technicians or Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, all of which are available at the College.

Careers The immediate opportunities for which this course prepares students are in management in business in the private, public or voluntary sectors. Depending on their interests and ambitions, students may choose to progress to further studies opening up opportunities in more senior management positions and business ownership. Equally, students may wish to specialise, for example in becoming a buyer, a project manager,

taking on roles in human resource management, accounting, consultancy or marketing. Management students from Guildford College have gone on to successful careers as entrepreneurs and managers in retail, healthcare, sports management, business services, property management and consultancy amongst others.

All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position.

There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding (identified as 'no fee remission available on this course').
