Those who are eligible may receive a small hourly stipend to make your service experience a win-win for you and those you serve.

STAFF SPOTLIGHTS
What do you enjoy most about working here?
Every day is different, and I never know what I will get to see and do. From documenting new wildlife at the Preserve, to leading workshops for volunteers and other educators, to working on process improvement projects for the City – I appreciate that my role comes with a variety of experiences.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
How did you get started in the Parks & Recreation field?
I started with Parks & Recreation when I joined the City and the Oso Preserve as our Recreation Coordinator. Previously my work had been in environmental and informal science education; working at a local non-profit and a teaching aquarium in Georgia leading school field trips and teacher workshops.
I am proud that I have helped lead an effort to expand nature awareness and wildlife viewing opportunities beyond the Oso Preserve. I’ve been fortunate to work with other city staff, external partners, and granting agencies to install interpretive signs at several parks, fund park improvements, host clean-ups and native plantings, as well as provide equipment and programming at other facilities. In 2022, our team began introducing Joybird’s Adventure backpacks into libraries and as of August 2023 every branch now has backpacks with binoculars and bird field guides that can be checked out.
Park Operations Supervisor 22 Years of Service

How did you get started in the Parks & Recreation field?
I saw it as the perfect opportunity to start my career with a great organization.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
The opportunity to work towards something meaningful. My job requires a lot of multitasking, “never boring,” which I enjoy!
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
Most of all selected to be featured in the “Staff Spotlight” and just recently received “Award of Recognition” certificate from Office of The Mayor. During my career, I have gained a sense of purpose, personal fulfillment, recognition and have had the opportunity for professional growth within the organization.
