Dr. DeShanna Reed “Exposure without Exclusion: How activating concentric circles of support can improve postsecondary success for differently-abled students” During this talk, our speaker, an experienced employment consultant, sheds light on the often-overlooked realm of postsecondary employment outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Drawing from their wealth of experience, they share inspiring stories and practical insights into how these individuals can not only find meaningful work but also thrive in their careers, breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity in the workforce. Dr. DeShanna Reed is a tenured educator and campus administrator with experience at all levels of education. She is the founder and Managing Director of D. Reed Coaching, Consulting & Advocacy, LLC, an educational research and consulting firm focused on equipping educators and leaders, evaluating systems and practices, and empowering school communities to facilitate accessible, equitable, and inclusive learning environments for all learners. Dr. Reed earned her Doctorate in Education with a focus in Special Populations from the University of Houston and has several articles featured in peer-reviewed journals. In February of 2023, she released her book, “The UDL for SEL: A Research-Based, Practical Guide for Improving Planning, Instructional, and Assessment Practices for Whole-Student and WholeEducator Success,” based on her research of educators and leaders at the secondary level.
