Dear Friends, Never has there been a more exciting time for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) than right now. When CCFA was founded in 1967, little was known or understood about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the two diseases that fall under the inflammator y bowel disease (IBD) umbrella. Those who were diagnosed with these serious chronic digestive diseases had few resources for education or support. Most were uncomfor table discussing their condition, even with friends and family. Research funding was almost non-existent.

Fast for ward nearly 50 years and we are on the brink of game-changing breakthroughs for our patients. Not ever y disease organization can make that claim – but we can! Better treatments and cures are not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. In just the coming year we will be introducing a host of new and critical patient programs and suppor ting innovative research endeavors like our Quality of Care Program, IBD Plexus, Genetics and Microbiome Initiatives, and our Risk Pediatric program. You have helped make the introduction of these programs possible, and I know that all our patients and caregivers are so grateful. Today, we are one of the largest private funders of IBD research outside the federal government. Over the past 48 years, we have invested more than $250 million in research and training grants. We are careful stewards of the donations you have made. Eighty-three percent of all funds go directly toward research, education and patient/ family suppor t. For the fourth consecutive year, we received a 4 (out of 4) star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating a charity can receive for executing its mission in a fiscally responsible way. This is a distinction only eight percent of the charities evaluated have received. We also received the highest rating by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. We are proud of CCFA’s accomplishments, confident of the outstanding research that will lead to better treatments and cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and deeply grateful to each of you for your role in enabling us to fulfill our impor tant mission. Thank you for your suppor t and have a wonder ful evening.

Sincerely, Michael Osso President & CEO
