UNITING WITH INDUSTRY

Civil Train is the training arm of the CCF SA and provides both accredited and non-accredited training and certification services. It continues to work closely with industry to support their training needs. As our team grows internally, we can provide new opportunities and services like new course offerings. But what happens when your team continues to grow and move into new emerging skills and technical knowledge unique to your business needs?

We have recently had an increase in the request for training and certification of skills that do not appear on our everyday catalogue of course offerings. Civil Train has built up a team of appropriately qualified Senior Trainers/Assessors who can work with an industry expert to conduct co-assessments. In accordance with Australian Skills Quality Authority guidelines, under such a co-assessment arrangement, an industry expert who has relevant vocational competency and has current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided, but who is not a Trainer/Assessor, can be involved in the assessment judgement. The judgement of competency is made by both parties in conjunction and the final award of the competency is made by our Trainer/ Assessor using the evidence collected during the assessment/judgment of the activity. What this enables Civil Train to deliver is training products (units of competency) on our registered scope under a coassessment or partnership arrangement – with emerging technical units we don’t always have a trainer available with the unit of competency and three to five years of industry experience to independently train and assess. This is where industry and Civil Train can unite and facilitate a co-assessment or partnership arrangement, which must exist between our qualified Assessor and your industry subject matter expert. This arrangement will ensure we are able to fulfil the requirements in assessing your staff for the national unit of competency. What is required from industry to facilitate a co-assessment process for you and your team? Your organisation is required to provide industry expert/s who will be involved in the assessment judgement, working alongside a Civil Train Assessor, to conduct the assessment. To qualify as an industry subject matter expert (SME), the individual must: 1 hold the national unit of competency or collate enough evidence to address the unit requirements and 1 be able to demonstrate three (3) to five (5) years of industry skills and knowledge. What we would require to be able to facilitate training and or assessment: 1 Copy of Industry subject matter expert’s evidence of currency/ expertise (we are required to keep on file) 1 Statement of attainment

1 CV – identifying three (3) to five (5) years of industry skills and knowledge associated with competency being sort. If training or courses are not advertised, don’t let this hold you back with seeking support for your training needs. For more information regarding coassessment arrangements please email courses@ccfsa.com.au or call (08) 8111 8001 to arrange a phone consultation or visit.
