PREMIER CONSTRUCTIONS AUSTRALIA PTY LTD

How long have you been in business?

Established in 2013 by the Company Director, Seamus McHugh.

Where are you located?

Adelaide | Melbourne Main Office: 2/20 Gawler Avenue, Welland, SA 5007.

How did you start your business?

I used to run my own business in Ireland, and when I moved to Australia in 2010, I always knew I wanted to work for myself. After a few years on the ground across different construction projects all around Australia, I decided to take the big risk. I quit my job as a Crane Operator at the time and used my savings to start sub-contracting labourers into regional construction projects. Our first gig was on the first ever Next Tracker Solar Farm in Australia. It was the first time I had ever seen a solar farm, which involved the installation of approximately 226,000 solar module units.

I was a one-man band, so accounts, payroll, invoicing, HR was completed in-house to get it up and running. My wife has been very supportive since the beginning, which meant I could take these risks and focus on building my business from the ground up. Now with offices in both South Australia and Victoria, I’m grateful for my team who are the foundation of the company’s growth over the last seven years. From this experience, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside people like Patrick Foley, the Construction Manager in South Australia, who has poured his heart and soul into the company, as if it’s his own. This can be a hard quality to find in people, particularly when you’re starting your own business in a competitive environment.

What are your core business activities/specialties?

PCA is one of Australia’s fast-growing construction service providers, specialising in formwork, steel fixing, concrete, labour hire and fleet services. We have completed works in all aspects of construction: highrise residential and general residential construction, defence, bridges, roads, solar farms, wind farms, and marine construction.

Completed project/products or services you have worked on or have that you are most proud of?

Premier Constructions Australia Pty Ltd has delivered FRP (Form-Reo-Pour) packages for the following projects:

Meyer Road Bridge Replacement Project – McConnell Dowell (SA)

Penny Place Apartments, 26 storey building – Maxcon & Oracle (SA)

REALM Adelaide, a 39 storey apartment block and Adelaide’s tallest building in the heart of Adelaide – Maxcon & Oracle (SA)

Darlington Upgrade Project – Gateway South JV (Laing O’Rourke & Fulton Hogan) (SA)

Mildura Substation Upgrade – Civil Infrastructure Group (SA)

Port Pirie Smelter Upgrade – Cofferdam – Geotech (SA)

Mobil Yarraville Oil Terminal Upgrade – Ballestrin (VIC)

However, the project I’m most proud of is the Port Pirie Smelter Upgrade – Cofferdam Project completed in 2017. I was on the ground with the team, and it was the most complex project we’ve worked on to

date. The team was working 5m below sea level at all times, and the work environment had its own challenges being close to a smelter. It was the first full FRP package we were awarded, and we met all program milestones 1 week ahead of schedule.

How many machines do you have in your fleet and what types?

PCA provides a range of fleet vehicles, including 6 trucks, 3T, 6T and 7T telehandlers, commuter bus and 16 fully equipped Utes, all with the standard site and safety specifications.

How many staff do you employ?

PCA currently employs up to 40 employees and 4 office staff. However, we also have the capability to sub-contract 50 – 100 skilled tradespeople at any given time, for short or long term contract work.
