JANUARY 2020
It Was a Page-Turning Year.... Happy New Year! Below is a sneak-peak of our 2019 Annual Report to the Community going out next month. At Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County we put knowledge to work for you every day, so what better way to highlight the power of knowledge than to celebrate books! This year’s CCE Sullivan Annual Report contains a collection of shared stories written by CCE program staff with narrated experiences, community impact data, Board of Directors’ recommended reads, photos, acknowledgements, fun infographics, and more! Tack the enclosed at-a-glance calendar of CCE programs, holidays, and cultural awareness dates up at home or your local community bulletin board. Keep an eye on our website at sullivancce.org/events as final registration links go live — don’t miss these seasonal opportunities offered right here in your backyard. Partial scholarships are available for those who apply.
“A True Story of Impact” Elizabeth Malave-Santos is the Deputy Town Clerk of Fallsburg, NY and a local resident of Mountaindale. Elizabeth was a shopper this season, and served as a community partner and liaison to produce donations to St. Andrews Mission Food Pantry, in South Fallsburg. Her office promoted the Sullivan Fresh Mobile Market on the Move (Mobile Market) and answered community questions. The Mobile Market has been a well-received addition to the community, which many residents utilized as part of their shopping routine.
“A Modern Classic for any Age” Youth voice is important in establishing educational goals, community service initiatives, and in planning fun learning activities for each meeting. Members offer diverse ideas for goals such as Zoey M.’s interest in making textiles from recycled materials, Emma C.’s easy crochet creatures for outreach work, Savannah C.’s eagerness to use her new sewing machine or Erin S.’s pursuing a personal project on a handheld loom. Meetings provide each member the time to work on personal projects.
“ENGAGING AND INSPIRING” Worksites are collaborating with partners and making accessibility to healthy foods, physical activity, and other wellness components a reality, for their staff, and for the surrounding community. Benjamin Cosor Elementary School worked with community service clubs, community businesses, residents, students, government agencies and CCE Sullivan to reconstruct a trail that opens to the public during non-school hours. The trail is open year round and has a wellness section for meditation and reading.
