YEAR 7 HANDBOOK 2026

YEAR 7 HANDBOOK 2026
It is with great pleasure that I welcome both new and returning families to Corpus Christi College for the beginning of Year 7 in 2026. You are joining a vibrant, community-centred College that offers rich learning experiences and a wide range of co-curricular opportunities. At Corpus Christi, students are encouraged to explore new interests, uncover hidden talents, and grow into confident, compassionate young people.
As Head of Year 7 in 2026 and beyond, I will oversee the wellbeing, academic progress, and personal growth of all students in the year group. My role is to support each child’s social, emotional, and educational journey, working closely with families and staff to create a safe and inclusive environment where every student can flourish. Together, we will help students develop resilience, a strong sense of belonging, and the courage to embrace new opportunities.
The start of secondary school is an exciting milestone, though it can also feel overwhelming at times. This Transition Handbook has been designed to guide you and your child through the key information needed to feel confident and well-prepared. I encourage you to take time to familiarise yourself with its sections, so that our incoming Year 7 students can begin their journey with enthusiasm and readiness to pursue their goals.
At Corpus Christi College, we are guided by our core values of Courage, Commitment, and Compassion. The transition to high school brings many changes and opportunities for growth, including:
• Navigating the College campus
• Moving between classes and teachers
• Developing new friendships and social connections
• Adjusting to specialist subjects, schoolwork, and homework expectations
• Building organisation and time management skills
To support this transition, the Year 6 Orientation Day and Year 7 Orientation Week will help students build positive connections, settle into College life, and foster a strong sense of belonging from the outset. We believe that wellbeing is rooted in relationships, and we place great importance on guiding students as they strengthen connections with themselves, their peers, their House, the College, and the wider community. Our shared goal is for every student to achieve their personal best, and this is made possible through the partnership of staff, students, and families.
Thank you for choosing Corpus Christi College for your child’s secondary education. I look forward to meeting you and working together to ensure your child feels supported, inspired, and ready to thrive in Year 7 and beyond.
Warm regards,
Vanessa Ross HEAD OF YEAR 7 2026

At Corpus Christi College, every student becomes part of one of our eight Houses:
• Chisholm (Dark Blue)
• De Vialar (Gold)
• MacKillop (Sky Blue)
• Merici (Red)
• Pallotti (Silver)
• Romero (Purple)
• Salvado (Green)
• Xavier (Black)
Our College is a welcoming and inclusive community that celebrates the uniqueness and diversity of each person. We aim to create a safe and flourishing environment that nurtures the wellbeing, strengths, and gifts of each person. Our community is built on authentic connections to foster a sense of belonging and engagement. Ensuring a culture of wellbeing promotes a community of care, builds a quality environment, and positively impacts growth.
As part of this community, each student is assigned a House and as part of that house they will be placed in a Homeroom. Students stay within the same Homeroom throughout their time at the College, fostering strong bonds and a sense of belonging. Each school morning begins with dedicated Homeroom time that includes activities like prayer, developing organisational skills, delivering Wellbeing and House Community programs, assemblies, and goal setting.
These routines help students ground themselves, connect with peers, and prepare for the day ahead.
Your child’s Homeroom teacher will be their dedicated mentor and first point of contact for non-academic concerns. They will guide and support your child, ensuring their journey is marked by our values of Courage, Commitment and Compassion.
The Parent Information Evening early in Term One will provide an opportunity for families to connect with their child’s Homeroom teacher. Staff and student House representatives will guide the students throughout the Year 6 Orientation Day to build early connections.
Through the House structure, we celebrate each student’s unique talents and gifts, giving opportunities to compete and achieve House points in Inter-House Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics Carnivals, academic results, positive learning approaches, and assorted arts, ministry, and stewardship events. The House Cup is awarded annually to the winning House. Each House is assigned a patron and students will learn about their significant contributions, House prayer, motto, and more. This system is an essential component of student life at the College, facilitating a sense of connectedness that enhances their overall learning experience.
For further information about each House and their associated Patron, please visit: www.corpus.wa.edu.au/house-system
At Corpus Christi College, students wear their uniform with pride and this sense of pride is a significant part of belonging to the College community. Students must always present in uniform of the highest possible standard, as their behaviour, appearance, and manners reflect both on them and their school.
In addition to the House shirt, each student will need a Summer uniform (Terms One and Four), a Winter uniform (Terms Two and Three), a sports uniform, a College hat, and College school and sports bags. Wearing these uniforms helps to foster a sense of belonging and unity among students.
To ensure the smooth operation of the Uniform Shop and allow flexibility around your family schedule,
each Year 7 2026 student will be invited to attend a uniform fitting session with appointments available in November and January. Please see the links below for further information about the Uniform Shop and the College Uniform Guidelines. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/uniform-shop www.corpus.wa.edu.au/procedures
At the Year 7 2026 Orientation Day in November, students are required to wear their House shirt along with suitable shorts, sports shoes, and a hat. House shirts can be purchased from the Uniform Shop or ordered online through the Flexischools app.
When formal classes commence for Year 7 students in Term One, students should wear their full summer uniform daily. If your child has a scheduled Physical Education or practical Dance lesson, they may wear their sports uniform for the entire day. All students are permitted to wear their House uniform every Friday.
During Terms Two and Three, students must wear their full winter uniform, including a blazer, each day. Blazers are to be worn to and from school, to Homeroom, and to Period 6, and should be stored safely in lockers
when not in use. Term Four will see a return to the summer uniform. All students may continue to wear their House uniform every Friday throughout the year.
From Term Two, Year 7 students will begin using the College changerooms. Students should bring their sports uniform to school in their College sports bag and change into the appropriate uniform at the start of Physical Education or practical Dance lessons.
At the conclusion of the class, they should change back into their formal uniform. Teachers will allocate time within the lesson for students to change.
The official College booklist provider is Box of Books. All students will have access to digital textbooks, where applicable, through the Box of Books app however in some cases hard copies may be compulsory; please ensure you refer to the Year 7 Booklist for the specific requirements of each subject area.
Students will be given access and usage instructions for the Box of Books app after College devices are provisioned during Orientation Week 2026. To view the Year 7 booklist, please visit the link below. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/booklists
The College will arrange for all students to be provided with a SmartRider, allowing for free transport on Transperth services during school days and concession rate travel on weekends and school holidays. The SmartRiders will be ordered after preliminary student photos are taken during the Year 7 Orientation Day in Term Four 2025 and distributed to students during Orientation Week 2026. Due to processing times, Transperth advises that during the first month of Term One, students will be able to travel for free on school days while they wait for their Student SmartRider to arrive. Further information and support regarding how to use a SmartRider and plan your child’s journey are available through the Transperth link below.
Beyond the public transportation system, SmartRiders serve as Student ID cards and can be used for private bus charter access, photocopying, library borrowing, and cafeteria purchases using pre-loaded credit. getonboard.transperth.wa.gov.au/
The College is serviced by three Transperth public bus services. In addition, two private bus charter services are operated by BusWest. To ensure the smooth operation of the BusWest services, students must be registered for travel. SmartRiders are required for both public and private bus services. For further information, please access the link below. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/bus-services/
The College Cafeteria, the Mater Christi Centre, provides healthy food options and has a seasonally changing menu. Purchases can be made using cash or pre-loaded credit on student SmartRiders. Credit is loaded via the Flexischools app. The Flexischools app can also be used to place lunch orders in advance. For further information about the Cafeteria and Flexischools app, please access the link below. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/cafeteria
Student timetables for 2026 will be released prior to commencement in Week One and will provide the details of all subject teachers and classrooms, as well as the formal confirmation of Homeroom teachers. To build familiarity and deepen connections, students will remain in their Homeroom groups for some lessons whilst others will combine students from different Houses to create opportunities for new friendships to blossom and pre-existing relationships to be maintained.
The College has a five-day timetable with six periods per day. Extended Homeroom time is allocated, allowing for year-group Pastoral time and House Community time. Year 7 students will attend classes across the Campus; however the majority of lessons will take place within the Year 7 building, the Sadler
Centre. Please see a link to the College map and a link to the current Bell Times below. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/map www.corpus.wa.edu.au/bell-times
All students will be provided with a College Diary during Orientation Week. The diary is to be taken to all classes, excluding practical classes as detailed below, and provides useful information for students including Wellbeing information, a College map, uniform guidelines, and links to College Procedures and FAQs.
Every student will be allocated a locker and will need to provide their own combination padlock to keep their belongings secure. We strongly recommend locks with a combination code rather than a key. The lockers are large enough to hold school and sports bags, books, and files. Lockers may be accessed before school, during Recess, during Lunch, and after school, and must remain padlocked when not in use. To minimise disruptions to learning time, students should not be visiting their lockers between classes unless they are transitioning to or from a practical class, for example a Physical Education or Dance lesson, where learning materials such as iPads, diaries, notebooks, and writing materials will not be required.
All students will be provided with a College-owned device during Orientation Week, ensuring uniformity and compatibility across the board. This will enable seamless integration of technology into the curriculum and empower students to explore innovative ways of learning. Students may require headphones for some classes; we recommend the use of simple corded headphones, as AirPods or similar wireless earbuds are easily lost or misplaced and this may cause financial or emotional distress to families.
Teachers are able to manage the appropriate use of student devices during class time, with overarching systems in place to ensure students remain focused and on-task throughout the school day. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with your child’s device and monitor their online activity when at home. If you would like additional support with device management, please contact the College IT Help desk through the link provided below.
Social problems often start as miscommunications that may escalate to bullying or friendship issues. With the prevalence of digital technologies and applications, students can have difficulty escaping the cyber world, and words can easily be misinterpreted in messages or online.
There can be potential legal ramifications if your child shares photographs or videos of other students without their permission, posts inappropriate images, or engages in online activity that may amount to defamation.
Understanding the websites, games, and apps that your child has access to is imperative to manage their online safety. You may wish to visit the eSafety Commissioner’s
online website for further information relating to cyber safety, digital footprints, and social media sites. www.esafety.gov.au www.corpus.wa.edu.au/device-strategy www.corpus.wa.edu.au/procedures
Mobile phones are not permitted to be on a student’s person throughout the school day and should be kept in lockers from Homeroom until the final bell.
Students should not be accessing messaging or social media applications on their iPads throughout the school day, including for communication with families. We appreciate your support in ensuring the school environment remains focused on learning and building interpersonal skills through positive face-toface social interactions. If a student needs to contact home, they should do so by visiting Student Services. Likewise, families may contact Student Services to have a message delivered to their child if required.
Alternatively, you may contact your child through their CEWA Student email address; for urgent or timesensitive information, it is recommended to contact Student Services in the first instance to ensure your child is notified immediately.
Corpus Christi College utilises the SEQTA Learning Management System to enable accurate and timely communication between the school, the student, and families. SEQTA provides access to timetables, daily lesson plans, class locations, course and assessment outlines, assessment results, student absence records, and more. SEQTA Learn is used by students and will be available through a pre-loaded app on all student iPads.
SEQTA Engage is used by families and is available to download as a mobile app or accessible via a web browser; a communication detailing how to access SEQTA Engage will be provided to you in January 2026.

‘Let the children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs’
- LUKE 18:16
At Corpus Christi College, we work in partnership with parents and the broader Parish community to provide a quality Catholic education for our students. We aim to nurture each child’s faith experience while recognising and catering for their individual needs and challenging them to grow, adapt, and positively engage in their learning. Each child’s spiritual development will be cultivated through the Head, the Heart, and the Hands.
Students will attend Religious Education lessons three times a week in Year 7, with Religious Education remaining a compulsory subject throughout your child’s time at the College.
Prayer is a daily feature in the College, especially during Home Room and House Meetings where the theme of the day is connected to the daily Mass readings.
Students will attend year group and whole College Masses, and participate in liturgies to celebrate the word of God. Gospel values such as compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and integrity will be encouraged through Catholic Ministry and charitable giving, preparing students for future engagement in the Acts of Service Program where we seek to support those in need across our broader College, Parish, and local communities.
Furthering the development of your child’s spirituality will be the Ignite the Spirit Retreat. Designed and delivered by our Year 11 and 12 Spirit Captains, the Retreat is a fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 students to reflect on their first weeks of High School whilst deepening their connection to their House, their House Patrons, and the life and culture of the College.
Corpus Christi College is a learning community where the journey of transformation is celebrated. We develop innovative, creative, and reflective learners who are resilient and accepting of the call to serve others. Individuality is recognised through a rich array or curricular and co-curricular opportunities, encouraging students to adopt growth mindsets and boldly seek out new discoveries.
We provide the conditions that allow student agency to flourish, with students being inspired and supported as they Grow, Create, and Aspire throughout their educational journey at Corpus Christi College.
Compulsory subjects for Year 7 include Religious Education, Mathematics, English, Science, Humanities, Physical Education, Health, and Languages. During this time, students will explore the full range of Elective subjects on offer at the College before enrolling in their
preferred Electives for future years. Electives include Visual Art, Textiles, Food, Metalwork, Woodwork, the Performing Arts (Music, Dance, and Drama), and Digital Creativity. Course and Assessment Outlines for all timetabled subjects will be available to parents and students through the SEQTA Engage and SEQTA Learn platforms respectively.
Students will complete a variety of assessment styles and tasks throughout their time at Corpus Christi College. Assessments may include: written tests, essays, or short answer responses; digitally formatted tasks such as Keynote slides, posters, spreadsheets, or videos; and performance or production tasks such as those within the Design and Technology subjects or the Visual and Performing Arts.
The Learning Diversity Team supports students that require environmental and instructional adjustments to access the curriculum. Learning will be personalised through a collaborative approach involving the Head of Learning Diversity, parents, carers, students, and key stakeholders.
If your child has a diagnosis or medical condition that might affect their learning, please contact the Head of Learning Diversity to arrange a transition meeting or click on the link below for further information. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/learningsupport
Throughout the year, you will receive feedback both formally and informally on your child’s progress. Grades will be given in the Semester One and Semester Two Reports, based on each student’s
achievement of the Australian Curriculum standards and aligned with the guidelines provided by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority.
The student demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year level.
The student demonstrates high achievement of what is expected for this year level.
The student demonstrates satisfactory achievement of what is expected for this year level.
The student demonstrates limited achievement of what is expected for this year level.
The student demonstrates very low achievement of what is expected for this year level.
If you have any specific queries relating to your child’s academic achievements, you should contact the Subject Teacher directly via email.
Corpus Christi College prioritises the holistic wellbeing of our students, staff, and the whole school community. Through our friendship curriculum, URStrong, your child will be supported in establishing and maintaining healthy relationships, managing conflicts with kindness, and increasing their overall resilience. All staff at the College have been trained in traumainformed practices under the Berry Street Education Model. This enables teachers to increase classroom engagement and successfully improve students’ self-regulation, growth, and academic achievement by responding proactively to student needs.
To support you in your role as parents, a series of presentations and workshops will be offered each year. These sessions draw on the professional expertise of external specialists in areas such as digital safety, relationships, and managing adolescence. Through this multi-faceted approach to wellbeing, Corpus Christi College aims to work collaboratively with parents and students to provide the necessary conditions for each child to fully grow and achieve their aspirations.
Whilst it is normal to experience some anxiety during the transition year and beyond, your child may need support in developing age-appropriate skills and strategies for managing the physical and emotional changes that come with adolescence. The College has two Counsellors and one Psychologist on staff to support students with their mental health and general wellbeing.
The Wellbeing staff work closely with families, students, and members of the Community team to support students’ individual needs. Confidentiality is assured, and it is possible for the College Wellbeing staff to work with privately engaged external specialists if required. Students and families can seek support by completing the online referral form, found in the link below. The Wellbeing Services webpage also contains useful information relating to transition support, stress management, and goal setting. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/wellbeing-services
Corpus Christi College offers a variety of co-curricular opportunities in Ministry, the Arts, Sports, Academics, and Hobby Clubs. By exploring interests outside the classroom, students are able to acquire and develop skills as they broaden their relationships with peers and staff. Depending on the offering, information will be provided via email or the daily SEQTA notices once the 2026 school year commences. To read more about some of the current co-curricular offerings, please visit the link below. www.corpus.wa.edu.au/extra-curricular
