Welcome to Christ Church Cathedral!

Today is Youth Sunday! A Sunday dedicated to celebrating the youth of the Cathedral and their ministry in our community. The music, readings, and prayers have been selected by youth members of the Youth Ministry Council and their choices reflect not only their faith, but also their hope for our church and the world. The Prayers of the People were crafted by Yuna O’Brien (‘24)and today’s homily is offered by Samuel Randall (‘22). The Collect was written by the Confirmation Class of 2022. We are gifted with the musical talents of Mac Bechtol (‘22) for the prelude and Grady McMillin (‘25) for the offertory hymn. Many additional Cathedral Youth serve today as readers, intercessors, social media guides, greeters, ushers and acolytes.

We have a socially distanced and masked seating section available. The east transept and first rows near the pulpit are reserved for those who choose both to physically distance and wear masks. If you’re sitting in the marked sections, you’re expected to wear masks and sit socially distanced. We have resumed administering wine at Holy Communion. Intinction (i.e.-dipping the wafer in the chalice) is permitted. However, in accordance with Bishop Doyle’s guidelines, at Communion we will not drink from the common cup. It is also acceptable to receive bread but not wine, as each element of Communion contains a full measure of grace. The congregation will be invited to the altar rail to receive Communion. If you choose to sit in the area reserved for physical distance, Communion will be brought to you in your pew.

The Second Reading

Hebrews 7:23–28

The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; but Jesus holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently he is able for all time to save those who approach God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself.
