Financial Report Where Dollars Come From

Where Dollars Are Spent

The Child Care Action Council nurtured and promoted early learning in communities so nearly 25,000 early educators, parents and children can thrive.

2,508 days of child care were provided to homeless children and 115 days of crisis nursery child care were delivered. Ninety percent of participants reported their stress was reduced the day they received crisis nursery services and that they used the time to resolve the crisis situation.

Since opening our doors in 1987, the Child Care Action Council has excelled at its mission to promote and nurture early learning communities where families and children thrive through multiple programs and services that all benefit young children.

Early Achievers

Our staff lead early educators through the state quality improvement process to ensure early educators develop environments and interactions that maximize learning for young children.

Family, Friend & Neighbor Caregiving

We offer several programs including Kaliedescope Play and Learn to help parents and providers improve their interactions with their children while also building positive connections with other adults in the community.

Infant and Toddler Consultations

Our professional staff provide training and consultations for infant and toddler providers to ensure the highest quality of care in a nurturing and enriching environment.

Margie’s Crisis Nursery & Homeless Child Care

We believe all children deserve safe, loving care, and that asking for help is a sign of strength. When family and friends aren’t available to help, Margie’s Crisis Nursery will be there. In addition, we fund child care for homeless families so children can be in a safe and enriching environment while parents work to find housing and employment.

Professional Development Academy

We offer classes, workshops, conferences and consultatons for early educators to obtain required credits and certification as well as overall expertise in their field.

Raising A Reader

The most significant factor impacting a child’s academic success is being regularly read to by a parent or other primary adult caregiver before starting kindergarten. This program provides books to families each week to help develop a love of reading.

Safe Kids

Accidental injuries are the number one cause of death in children fourteen and under. Prevention can eliminate ninety percent of these, so we are coming together with others to make safety equipment and information readily available.

Safe Kids events touched more than 5,000 families with safety information, education and resources during the year. More than 1,000 home safety supplies (e.g. cribs, choke testers, sleeping sacks) were given to young families served by the Health Department’s Nurse Family Partnership.

Raising A Reader reached 1,331 children through 42 early learning and preschool programs. Eighty-five percent of families report their children read more often and read longer, in addition to other positive outcomes.

We provided high quality professional development programs to help early educators understand child development and offer safe, enriching learning environments. During the year we offered 98 professional development classes, attended by 1,159 early educators, that are aligned with state standards and core competencies.

Staff conducted a series of Play and Learn groups reaching a total of 46 families and 98 children. Participants reported increased frequency of positive, interactive behaviors with children in their care as a result of things they learned in the group.

Twenty-one child care facilities received Infant & Toddler Consultations. Staff regularly made on-site visits working with providers on environments and interactions to promote development in 46 classrooms.
