Safety Guidelines While Handling Aluminium Powder
Aluminium powder is a light silver-white to gray, odorless powder. It is a reactive flammable material. This is originally produced by mechanical means using stamp mill to create flakes. Aluminum powders are used in paints, pigments, protective coatings, printing inks, rocket fuel, explosives, abrasives and ceramics; production of inorganic and organic aluminum chemicals; and as Catalysts. Aluminum Powder is used in the production of many types of explosives and fireworks. It
is also
employed
in
the
manufacturing of
certain
types
of
electronics. Powdered aluminum is included in many paints and sealants. The aluminum powder should be stored in a cool place, i.e. in the open, it should be protected against direct sunlight. additionally, containers should be stored far enough off from steam pipes or radiators to prevent heating. Smoking and naked flames must be strictly prohibited in storage areas. Can be shipped, stored, and used safely if proper attention is given to the maintenance of it. However, under certain conditions, aluminum powder and paste products can ignite and/or explode. To provide better understanding of the recommended safety procedures, please carefully read every guideline provided in this document. Hazards of Aluminium Powder •
Mixtures of aluminium powder and air are ignitable over a large range of concentrations and might cause violent dust explosions.
•
Highly flammable hydrogen can form on contact with water or other chemicals and present a further risk of explosion, and possibly be accountable for causing a secondary dust explosion
•
The strong electric charge on powder can cause electrical discharges, which may possibly ignite a cloud of dust.
