Dr. Dominick Sturz is a Professor of Public Health and the current Program Director for Doctor of Public Health. He also serves as the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Retention for the College of Health Sciences.
Dr. Sturz has a DrPH in Health Education and MPH in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Dr. Sturz is also certified by NCHEC as Master Certified Health Education Specialist.
Dr. Sturz has 15+ years of experience within healthcare administration with special expertise in systems of care. He has also been actively involved in various global health initiatives throughout his career. Dr. Sturz serves on the Board of Directors for several public/community health organizations and has been recognized by Mexico’s Ministry of Health for his work with the annual Bi-National Health Fair, one of the largest health fairs in the U.S. Dr. Sturz has served on the Governing Council of the Southern California Public Health Association since 2015, and has been serving as Affiliate Representative to the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) Governing Council since 2020. In 2023, he was also appointed as the Region IX Representative for APHA’s Council of Affiliates.
Dr. Sturz was involved with CDC and APHA COVID-19 taskforces throughout the pandemic and continues to regularly engage in public health practice. He also remains engaged in teaching, presenting, and publishing academic research in the domains of Infectious Disease, Spirituality, Mental Health, Aging, among others.
Degree Requirements
Application for admission with a $45 application fee.
Official transcript from an accredited college or university reflecting the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
3.0 cumulative or last 60/90 unit GPA. Additional opportunities may be available for a student to overcome an unsatisfactory GPA.
A written statement of purpose. The written statement (500-word maximum) should include:
• What is your reason for why you are pursuing this doctorate degree?
• Why do you want a DrPH as opposed to another type of doctorate?
• Identify a general area of interest for your dissertation research, knowing that it can change as you progress through the program.
Additional requirements may be requested.
• A Master of Public Health or equivalent degree.
• Completed with a “C” or better:
– Principles and Methods of Epidemiology (or equivalent)
– Biostatistics (or equivalent)
– Research Methods (or equivalent)
