CBS Academic Advising Relationship and Responsibilities As a CBS student, I understand the following are my responsibilities in the academic advising relationship: 1. I understand that all CBS electronic correspondence should occur through my CBS student email account (not my personal email), and I commit to check my CBS account on a regular basis. 2. I understand that advising support is integral to complete my CBS degree, so I will treat my advisor with respect and Christlike compassion and meet my responsibilities in the advising relationship. 3. I understand that, while walk-in advising may be available, I should schedule meetings in advance to ensure my advisor is available and has adequate time to prepare in advance to advise me. 4. I understand that email or voicemail follow-up from my advisor may be delayed due to inquiries received before mine. If my advisor does not reply within 48 business hours, I will locate the email I sent, and in that same email thread, I will send a polite reminder to my advisor. If my advisor does not reply within 24 hours, I can then email advisors@cbshouston.edu to request assistance. 5. I am required to read the Academic Catalog and the Student Handbook to be aware of CBS policies regarding satisfactory academic progress (e.g., academic warnings, probation, suspension, etc.). 6. I understand that if I have questions regarding a CBS policies or procedures, I should check the Academic Catalog. If I do not find needed information, I should ask my advisor for clarification. 7. I understand that my advisor will inform me of requirements to complete my CBS degree. 8. I must contact my advisor if I need assistance regarding my course schedule, degree plan, degree progress, or anticipated graduation date. 9. I must meet all deadlines (e.g., registration, course assignments, entrance/exit testing, course drops, commencement, etc.) that are issued by CBS faculty and administration. 10. If work/ministry/life circumstances may impede my ability to meet required objectives or deadlines, I will contact my professor(s) first. I will then promptly inform my advisor to plan a course of action. 11. I must contact my advisor and Financial Aid if I am considering dropping a course. 12. I will speak to my advisor about course prerequisites to ensure courses are taken in proper sequence. 13. I will register for courses in compliance with CBS guidelines. 14. I understand that failure to follow my advisor’s recommendations (or missing CBS deadlines) may impede my ability to maintain satisfactory academic progress and may delay my graduation. 15. I must keep my contact information updated in the CBS Student Portal (e.g., telephone numbers, physical addresses, email addresses). 16. If a problem should arise with my advisor, I commit to follow procedures outlined in Matt 18:15-18. First, I will make every effort to reconcile with my advisor. Second, if a concern remains, I will contact Dr. Tracie Burt (CBS Director for Advising and Student Success) for counsel and recourse.
