Expanding Jana’s Campaign into Nebraska and Increasing Impact in Colorado Our work with middle and high schools con nues to grow within the state of Kansas and has begun to rapidly expand into both Colorado and Nebraska. Jana’s Campaign has implemented our comprehensive programming in 219 schools in Kansas and 100 schools in Colorado and Nebraska. We are excited to further our efforts and increase our impact in these states and across the country.

Jana’s Campaign works to individualize a teen gender violence preven on plan that will best meet the needs of each individual school we work with. These preven on programs can be curricular or co-curricular, including classroom presenta ons, faculty/staff trainings, policy review and revision. All of our programming op ons are offered at li le to no cost to the schools, thanks to our individual, founda on, and corporate donors. This comprehensive and coordinated approach fosters a culture of respec ul rela onship behaviors to prevent gender and rela onship violence before it begins.

Coaching Boys Into Men Training at the Kansas Interscholas c Athle c Administrators Associa on Conference On April 3rd, Dr. Curt Brungardt provided the keynote address to the Kansas Interscholas c Athle c Administrators Associa on Conference in Wichita, KS. Curt presented on the Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) program, which trains athle c coaches to use their influence to help male student athletes build healthy rela onships and prevent gender and rela onship violence. Several of the more than 100 middle and high school athle c directors and coaches in a endance plan to implement CBIM with their male athletes at their own schools, sharing the important message of having respect for all women and girls.

Mini-Grant Service Projects – Pu ng Knowledge into Ac on Jana’s Campaign is pleased to provide mini-grants that allow students to put knowledge into ac on as they integrate issues of gender-based violence into teen da ng violence awareness service projects. These $100 mini-grants support projects that help empower students to make a difference. Over the past several months, many students across the state of Kansas took part in service projects.

These projects ranged from conduc ng school-wide awareness presenta ons to hos ng an art show focused on the issues of rela onship violence, to crea ng and distribu ng T-shirts in honor of Jana’s story.

This year, two mini-grant projects went above and beyond. Two students from Turner High School (Kansas City, KS) represented the student organiza on Distribu ve Educa on Clubs of America (DECA) with their mini-grant project. The students created a teen da ng awareness campaign to educate their fellow classmates and to honor Jana’s legacy of making a difference. The project was then presented at the DECA State Career Development Conference and at the interna onal level in Anaheim, CA. Addi onally, two students from Wichita North High School (Wichita, KS), who are involved with the student organiza on Health Occupa ons Students of America (HOSA), created a mul -dimensional teen da ng violence awareness campaign that consisted of four ac vi es to educate their classmates. These students presented their campaign at the Kansas state level and the interna onal level at a compe on in Orlando, FL. We greatly appreciate these students and all students who are working to reduce teen da ng violence across the country.

Higher Education 2017 Campus Safety Summits Off to a Strong Start Campus Safety Summits are designed to be affordable, regional conferences that bring together representa ves from all aspects of campus life to share best prac ces, discuss strategies and learn from each other. At the Summits, campus leaders are encouraged to develop a team of key campus stakeholders to create a comprehensive and integrated approach to preven ng and responding to sexual assault, in mate partner violence and stalking at their ins tu ons.

The impact of the Campus Safety Summits con nues to expand as we introduced the inaugural Midwest Campus Safety Summit this year on April 5th and 6th at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Nearly 100 par cipants represen ng nine states and 34 universi es and organiza ons a ended the Summit. This inaugural Summit featured na onally-recognized keynote speakers Anne Munch, J.D., and Dr. Kimberly Dickman, as well as a number of experts and prac oners from around the region.

On June 7th and 8th, the 2nd annual Rocky Mountain Campus Safety Summit took place on the campus of Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. With over 100 a endees from ten states, the summit was a huge success. Jana’s Campaign was very happy to host board member Pamela Jacobs, J.D, who provided a Summit keynote.

Impact of Campus Safety Summits Con nues to Grow – Save the Date!

To date, we have hosted seven Summits in three different regions and have welcomed 1,170 par cipants from 265 colleges, universi es and organiza ons from 29 states. Our impact will only increase with our upcoming Summits. The 5th annual Heartland Campus Safety Summit is scheduled for November 15th and 16th in Kansas City, KS and the 2nd annual Midwest Campus Safety Summit will take place next year on April 11th and 12th in Muncie, IN.

Higher Educa on Presenta ons in Demand The demand for Jana’s Campaign to speak at colleges and universi es con nues to grow. On April 18th, Drs. Curt and Chris e Brungardt provided the keynote address at the inaugural Empowerment Summit at Wichita State University, in Wichita, KS. This first-ever summit was hosted by Wichita State University’s Title IX Student Alliance and was free and open to the public. The Brungardts shared their story and provided those in a endance a wealth of informa on related to gender and rela onship violence preven on and educa on.

Community Education The Hays Art Council Community Art Walk For the second year in a row, Jana’s Campaign hosted an exhibit during the Hays Art Council Community Art Walk (KS). Visual art by students from Hays High School, Ellis High School and Fort Hays State University, as well as community ar sts illustrated the theme of gender and rela onship violence and awareness. Remarkable dancers from Styles Dance Centre, the venue host, performed a variety of numbers interpre ng forms of rela onship violence. Drama students from La Crosse High School (La Crosse, KS) performed spoken word monologues highligh ng various types of gender violence. Those who a ended the show commented on the skills and the sheer beauty of all performances. An advocate from Op ons Domes c and Sexual Violence Services was in a endance to share educa onal materials and resources with community members.

Walk A Mile – Great Bend and Hays, KS Drs. Chris e and Curt Brungardt were invited to provide opening remarks at the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes events in both Great Bend and Hays, KS. The Family Crisis Center of Great Bend and the Interfraternity Council at Fort Hays State University of Hays hosted the events. Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is a fun opportunity for men to raise awareness in their communi es about gender and rela onship violence. Men literally walk a mile in women’s shoes to put the saying “you can’t understand another person’s experience un l you have walked a mile in their shoes” into ac on.

Community Presenta ons Drs. Curt and Chris e Brungardt were featured speakers on March 9th at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS presen ng on preven ng domes c and da ng violence, sexual violence and stalking. Approximately 200 people a ended and walked away inspired to strengthen their coordinated community efforts to combat these issues. On May 6th, Dr. Chris e Brungardt provided a presenta on to Sorop mist Interna onal of O awa, KS. This organiza on is an interna onal volunteer organiza on for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls.

Internal News and Fundraising Update Jana’s Campaign Receives Na onal Award Jana’s Campaign recently received na onal recogni on for our work in teen da ng violence preven on. In January, the Mary Byron Project (Louisville, KY) awarded Jana’s Campaign with the "Commended Program Award" as part of their Celebra ng Solu ons Awards program. This award program was created to showcase and applaud innova ons that demonstrate promise in breaking the cycle of violence. Along with the honor came a cash award that will help con nue our teen da ng violence preven on work.

The 2013-2016 Assessment Data and Impact Report In April, we completed the Assessment Data and Impact Report which is a comprehensive summary of our programming ac vi es for the 2013-2016 calendar years. A summary of quan ta ve and qualita ve data is provided, illustra ng both program outputs and program outcomes. The purpose of this report is twofold: first, this valuable informa on guides our program growth and improvements; and secondly, it provides our supporters, donors, partners and friends with a record of our program results and impact.

New Full-Time Employees We have welcomed two full- me employees to the Jana’s Campaign’s team. Tiffani Clark graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Organiza onal Leadership in December 2017.

Originally from Colorado, Tiffani has taken on her new role as the Program Specialist for Higher Educa on in our Colorado office.

Kai Dinges, who has been with Jana’s Campaign part- me for the past year, has transi oned into a fullme posi on. Kai graduated from Fort Hays State University in May 2017 with her Master’s Degree in Organiza onal Leadership. She is the Senior Program Specialist for Secondary Educa on and operates out of the Kansas office.

Board Members Support Jana’s Campaign through Innova ve Fundraisers Board Member Dana Wa s, J.D., of Washington, D.C., gathered friends and hosted a fundraiser at a local bar, where people came together to support and learn more about Jana’s Campaign. As someone who knew Jana personally, Dana was able to share her story and the work we are doing in a very impac ul way to all a endees. The bar even donated a por on of their sales to Jana’s Campaign.

From his Peace Corps post in The Gambia, Africa, Board Member Tre’ Giles took to social media to ask his followers to donate to Jana’s Campaign for his birthday. Within in a few short days he successfully reached his fundraising goal. We are so grateful for those who help fundraise and move us closer to reaching our IMPACT Project goal.

The IMPACT Project Update We are excited to announce that we have achieved 81% of our $500,000 capital campaign goal.

These funds will be used to increase both the scale and scope of our work and to create even greater impact. The IMPACT Project, Jana’s Campaign’s major fundraising ini a ve officially announced at the beginning of 2016, seeks to raise $500,000. This ini a ve will improve and expand the gender and rela onship violence preven on efforts of Jana’s Campaign in middle and high schools, colleges and universi es, as well as through community-wide programming ac vi es.

To date, Jana’s Campaign has raised $408,080 in dona ons and pledges, with the remaining 19% of the fundraising goal to be met in the coming months.
