THIS IS THE PLACE

Welcome to Christian Brothers High School, a community inclusive of various religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, working together to achieve a shared mission steeped in Lasallian tradition: to give a human and Christian education to the young and to promote peace and justice, with a commitment to service. In an atmosphere of academic excellence and in appreciation of individual differences, we inspire and direct individuals toward an increased understanding of themselves and their community. We encourage a personal sense of honor and self-discipline, service to others, a respect for all life, and growth toward a mature relationship with God.
As an all-male, Catholic high school, CBHS offers prospective students and families every opportunity you would expect of a larger high school, but on an intimate scale, where every student is valued and loved.
In the more than 150 years we have served families across the Mid-South, we have learned quite a bit about ourselves. Where you come from is not what matters. We care most about who you can and will become. We are a family that supports and stewards individualized and holistic growth. We are a network built to last a lifetime. We push one another to each achieve our greatest potential, and we give of ourselves to those in greatest need. It’s within these walls, on our fields, and in each classroom that we discover who and why we are. What sets us apart is our unwavering brotherhood and the transformative experience that sense of community yields.

“The Brotherhood is more than a tagline. It is a lived experience.”
- brother david poos, fsc, president
Every year, students participate in offcampus retreats to reflect on their beliefs and strengthen their bond

We belong to a network of more than 1,000 schools that educate 1.2 million young people worldwide. Each of us share the same core principles established by our institutional founder and patron saint of teachers, St. John Baptist de La Salle, more than 300 years ago.
“To be entrusted with the teaching of the young is a great gift and grace of God.”
- st. john baptist de la salle

faith in the presence of god
Every class and assembly at CBHS begins with prayer and a reminder that we are always in the Holy Presence of God. In closing every prayer, we ask St. John Baptist de La Salle to pray for us. We are Catholic in faith, Lasallian in mission, and respectful of diverse religious beliefs. Within our walls, students are able, encouraged, and given the tools to grow in their unique relationships with God.
quality education
We develop lifelong learners by example and through a rigorous curriculum focused on college and career readiness. We offer more than 60 different honors, dual-enrollment and advanced placement courses.
concern for the poor and social justice
We strive to develop each student into a servant leader, instilling in him the significance of serving others in need. Every graduating class accumulates more than 16,000 service hours over the students’ four years at CBHS.
respect for all persons
We respect and honor the dignity of every individual. Our student body is made up of boys from more than 45 different zip codes and 92 different public and independent schools across the tri-state area.
inclusive community
We strive to preserve our student diversity and make the CBHS experience more affordable for our families. Nearly one half of our student body receives need-based financial assistance.
The world does not reside in the 90th percentile. We engage every type of student from every walk of life and challenge him to reach his potential. It's what we call the Brothers' Way Our socioeconomic and neurological diversity across our student body are a real benefit for our boys as they prepare for life beyond school. With the understanding that our students come from vastly different backgrounds and thus begin from different bases of knowledge, our efforts center on maximizing individual student growth.
No matter his background or plans for the future, college preparation begins as soon as a young man enters CBHS. He is counseled every year to take challenging curriculum that will provide him with a proper foundation for any college and career he may wish to pursue. Throughout his years at CBHS, each student and his family are guided through the college selection process with group sessions and one-on-one guidance to prepare appropriately and make informed, realistic decisions for his post-secondary plans.
In addition to college counseling, counselors are available to support students in addressing and overcoming academic and personal issues, or any issues that affect the student and his ability to thrive in or outside the classroom. Our counseling department includes counselors for academic and social-emotional support, specialists who provide support for our students with documented learning differences, and a peer tutoring program. There are no cookie cutter solutions here. We meet each student where he is, challenge him to be the best he can be, and give him the tools necessary to get there!

de la salle scholars
As iron sharpens iron, the De La Salle Scholars program at CBHS gathers a community of our most gifted and dedicated students to hold each other to the highest standards of academic achievement. Scholars are able to take a wide range of AP and dual-enrollment classes through which they can earn college credits over the course of their years at CBHS. De La Salle Scholars also serve as leaders among our students. They are expected to share their academic gifts through our peer tutoring program, and many Scholars volunteer to tutor grade school students. All De La Salle Scholars must maintain at least a 4.0 GPA to remain in the program. In the past seven years, 15 students have been named National Merit finalists, 31 have been commended for their PSAT scores, and 14 have achieved a perfect ACT score.

“I want boys to gain the values taught by a Christian Brothers education: accountability, discipline, leadership, work ethic. You can get a good education at a lot of schools, but they don’t teach you to be a man.”
- bill marr ‘64
When Bill Marr ‘64 decided to give back to Christian Brothers in a major way, he envisioned a program that connected Brothers’ Boys with mentors in business within our alumni network who have found real success in their careers. The Marr Department of Business broadens our longstanding offering of business courses in accounting, economics, and finance, to provide students opportunities to dive deeply into business fundamentals, technology, sports and entertainment marketing, stock portfolio management, and entrepreneurship. Combined with access to internships and job shadowing, our business students are able to undergo professional and softskill development while they apply the theories and knowledge they have gained in the classroom to find solutions to real-world issues in countless fields of business.
STEMM education plays a crucial role in the modern high-tech, high-skill global economy. In order for Memphis to stay competitive economically and nurture and retain talent, it is essential for the next generation to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to emerge as productive and innovative leaders
CBHS has created a pathway by which our students develop a competitive edge and learn to collaborate effectively before they enter college and later their careers. Students can choose from various STEMM electives in the focus areas of Engineering, Biomedical Science, Computer Science, and Aviation.
With its launch in 2021, the Aviation pathway enables students keen on kick-starting their aviation careers to accumulate flight training hours using our on-campus flight simulator. Now in its fourth year, we are seeing students earn their private pilot certification, a crucial step towards becoming an airline pilot, even before graduating from CBHS!
“The arts teach our boys the value and rewards of hard work. The crafts they hone in their time here open doors they never dreamed they could walk through.”

Our faculty members are exceptionally competent in their respective crafts, and they are passionate about the developmental impact the arts have on our students, whose lives are more enriched, whose school days are more fulfilling, and whose high school experience is both rewarding and

Student-athletes are celebrated here. We recognize the positive influence that engaging in organized sports can have on a student’s academic achievements and future accomplishments.
Our longstanding tradition of excellence in athletics is one our community has always held in high esteem.
As a member of the TSSAA Division II, we compete against some of the most elite programs in Tennessee. Our student-athletes strive for excellence in their programs, for their teammates, coaches, and school. At the same time, they work diligently in the classroom and serve as leaders on our campus.
“Our lady, Queen of Victory... Pray for Us!”
Christian Brothers’ baseball and soccer programs have each earned more state championship titles than any individual school in Tennessee, and we are proud of our legacy having made 61 state championship appearances across all programs in the school’s history.
In the past four years alone, Christian Brothers has secured state championship hardware in basketball, soccer, wrestling, and earned back-to-back state championship titles in rugby and track and field.

The Brothers Leadership Council (BLC) is our governing student body and a key driver of Christian Brothers’ active and engaging student life. From victory dances after games and cornhole in the courtyard to trivia during Advisory and intramurals, the BLC organizes a wide range of activities. Students who actively participate earn points toward a yearlong competition between Advisories for the coveted House Cup. Our advisory structure and corresponding Maurelian House System is designed to provide meaningful opportunities for fraternal companionship between students and faculty. The advisory structure is divided into eight houses, each made up of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
