LET US REMEMBER...WE ARE IN THE HOLY PRESENCE OF GOD Greetings from Christian Brothers High School! • Pre-Registration for 2018-19: From February 26 – March 12, current freshman, sophomore, and junior students will pre-register online in PowerSchool for classes for the 2018-19 school year. Please take some time to discuss your students’ class schedule for next year, and the importance of their choices in preparing for admission to college. • Mastering the Essay Challenge Test: Mastering the Essay is a required fifth-semester writing course designed to provide upper division students composition instruction reflective of exams such as the SAT, ACT, and other college entrance expectations. Though it is the English department’s recommendation that all students take Mastering the Essay, sophomore students have the choice of taking a challenge test on February 22. Students who pass the rigorous rhetorical strategy analysis writing exam will have the option of waiving the Mastering the Essay graduation requirement. Sophomore students who wish to take the challenge test should contact English department chair Mrs. Wanket ( by Friday, February 16. • New Tuition billing/ collection company for the 2018-19 school year: This spring we will transition from Smart Tuition to FACTS for our tuition billing and collection. We will continue with Smart Tuition for the remaining 2017-2018 school year. FACTS accounts will start with the 2018-2019 school year. As part of your registration (re-enrollment) for the 2018-19 school year, you will receive a link to set up your FACTS tuition billing and collection account. Events and Announcements Please visit the CB School Calendar for a full list of upcoming events. • One Acts 2018, written, produced, and performed by students, continues with performances on February 9, 10 and 11. Advance tickets can be purchased in the Ticket Hub, or at the box office prior to the show. • Saturday, February 10 is an ACT testing date (this test date is not being administered at CB). • A Valentines Spirit Day will be held on Tuesday, February 13. Students are invited to wear jeans or dress code pants with a pink, red, or white shirt. No leggings or sweatpants, please. • Parents are welcome to join us at the Ash Wednesday Liturgy beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14. Students must wear a CB logo polo shirt (no T-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, or any other type of top other than a CB sweatshirt or CB jacket) and appropriately-sized dress pants, capris, slacks or Dockers-type khaki pants (no shorts or skirts). • On Thursday, February 15, at 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons, the Christian Brothers BSU will host a discussion of Congressman John Lewis’ New York Times bestselling graphic novel, March: Book One. Faye Kennedy, from the Sacramento Black Book Fair, and Larry Lee ’91, President and General Manager of the Sacramento Observer, will be our guest moderators. Interested parents and students are invited to attend. • An Enchanted Emerald Evening…Christian Brothers Largest Fundraiser – Auction and Dinner – March 17, 2018 Tickets, Sponsorships and Catalog Advertisements are for sale HERE. We ask every family to donate to the auction. We accept cash donations and items for the live and silent auctions. Game times are 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. This game is the Senior Night for our women’s basketball team. • The playoff basketball brackets should be posted on by 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 15.
