the
Department
Our department is internationally recognized in terms of high quality applied research and high caliber graduates. You’ll be taught in state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, located in the new College of Engineering and Applied Sciences world leading campus, located in the Parkview Business Technology and Research Park. Our class sizes are smaller, with one-on-one interaction with faculty and industry personnel. You’ll be learning with technologically-advanced methods and tools and, you’ll be taught by the finest professors and faculty that WMU has to offer. When you get your first job offers, you’ll be able to ‘hit the ground running!. That’s why corporations feel confident hiring WMU PCI graduates! Throughout the last 50 years, our graduates have always successfully placed with some of the highest starting salaries in the limitless and cutting-edge fields of engineering. All our students participate in hands-on summer internship and co-op experiences with the paper, chemical and printing industries. Industry depends on us to fill their positions with our students. Our Chemical Engineering program offers the unique areas of concentration in Paper, Life Sciences, Energy, and Environment. We recently modified our Imaging program to reflect changes in the industry including high speed digital printing and color

Chemical Engineering
Chemical engineers are involved in almost every industrial process in our society. The chemical engineer discovers, designs, builds, and operates industrial processes that involve changes in the chemical composition, physical nature, or energy content of materials. Chemical engineers play a lead role in waste minimization through process improvement and treatment plant design and operation. Gasoline from oil, cereal from grain, paper from trees, and pharmaceuticals by chemical synthesis—all utilize chemical engineers. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find anything you are using, at any time of day, that was not produced using the skills of a chemical engineer.
