BMI REPORTING POLICY: New York requires schools to track each student’s Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight status category as part of school health examinations. Every year, the NYS Department of Health will survey some schools for the number of pupils in each of six possible weight status categories. If Cazenovia is surveyed by the state, the district will share summary group data only, not individual names or information. Parents who wish to exclude their child’s data from such group calculations must contact the child’s school nurse.

New York codes, rules and regulations require that the engine of a bus or truck powered by diesel fuel shall not idle for more than five consecutive minutes when the bus or truck is not in motion except when a bus or truck is forced to maintain motionless because of the traffic conditions over which the operator thereof has no control or when state regulations require the maintenance of a specific temperature for passenger comfort.
HOMELESS STUDENTS POLICY: As required by No Child Left Behind, all districts have responsibilities to homeless students in their district. In order to serve these students, each district must appoint a liaison for homeless children that are currently residing within a district. The liaison must first identify these students and, to aid in doing so, post notifications regarding educational services and contact information at places where the parents of homeless students will see it. These locations can include, but are not limited to, homeless shelters, medical clinics, post offices and local social service offices. Mr. Patrick Ruddy, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, is the liaison for Cazenovia Central School District.
RECRUITERS: As part of the No Child Left Behind Act, military recruiters and institutions of higher learning have access to secondary students’ directory and public relations information. Directory and public relations information means name, address, telephone number, date and participation in activities recognized as official student organizations, and other similar information already a matter of public knowledge in the school community. A high school student or parent may ask that the district not release such information without prior written parental consent. Student records other than directory and public relations information, and any material contained therein that is personally identifiable, are confidential and may not be released or made available to persons other than parents or students without prior written consent of such parents or student. There are exceptions to this rule such as other school employees and officials, and certain state and federal officials who have a legitimate educational need for access to such records in the course of their employment. This directory information is exempt from the provisions of the Privacy Act and may be made public without written consent of parent or student. This includes publication on the District website. However, students 18 and over or the parents or guardians of students of any age can request that the school not make directory information available. Those requests will be honored. Please send a letter to Christopher DiFulvio, Superintendent of Schools for Cazenovia Central School District, 31 Emory Ave., Cazenovia, N.Y. 13035.
RELEASE OF STUDENT INFORMATION TO MILITARY

BURTON STREET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (cont.)
To reduce congestion in the designated areas at arrival and dismissal times, we strongly encourage parents to have their children ride the bus.
• Do not let your child enter or exit the vehicle in traffic
DROPPING OFF STUDENTS AT ARRIVAL TIME: Parents/guardians may drop students off in the back parking lot of the school (off of Clark Street). Students will be permitted into the building at 7:58 a.m. Parents/guardians will follow a single lane traffic pattern and have their child exit the vehicle onto the sidewalk. Vehicles will depart single file following the car in front. For student safety, do not pass the vehicle in front of you. Vehicles must stay in the single lane.
PICKING UP STUDENTS AT DISMISSAL TIME:
LATE ENTRY/EARLY DEPARTURE PROCEDURES:
Burton Street Elementary School operates on a cycle that allows for a repeat of special activities every six days. These activities include physical education, art, music and library. Physical education classes meet four times every six days; music meets twice; art and library meet once each cycle. Teachers will share information about the classroom special schedule in on-going home/school communication. Report cards for kindergarten through fourth grades are issued at regular, 10-week intervals throughout the school year.
8
• When dropping off, please have students exit on the sidewalk side
• Park in designated parking areas
Students will be welcomed into the building at 7:58am, school starts promptly at 8:10am. Students who arrive late will need to be signed in by a parent/guardian with main office staff upon arrival. Any student who arrives after 8:10 is considered tardy. Should you need to pick your child up from school early, please send in a written note to your child’s teacher. When picking up your child, please enter the building and sign your child out with the main office staff. After your child is signed out, they will be called down to the vestibule for pick up.
SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM VISITATION: For the safety of our students and staff, doors will be locked at all times. Students will say goodbye to their families in their vehicle or at the outside doors of the school. Parents/guardians are not permitted to walk their child to the classroom. This allows students to transition to school with their peers with minimal interruptions and ensures student and staff safety. Burton Street staff members will be located at the entrance to help and support students should it be needed.
• Follow the traffic flow patterns at the school
• Do not block fire lanes or loading dock
Changes can be made via phone call to the main office by 1:00pm. The adult picking up the child will be required to sign out the child.
Parents and guardians are welcome members of the Burton Street community. All visits to school for the purpose of visiting your child’s class must be pre-arranged with the teacher and/ or administrator. Planned events will be communicated with families in a timely manner. All visitations should be pre-arranged and visitors must sign in at the main office and obtain a visitor badge.
• Be cautious of other vehicles and particularly the movements of parents and their children entering and exiting the school facilities and grounds
SIX-DAY CYCLE AND REPORT CARDS:
CAZENOVIA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT PARENT/GUARDIAN GUIDE 2022-2023
Students are dismissed from classrooms at 2:28pm. Parents/guardian pick up at the end of the day takes place in the back parking lot (off of Clark Street). Parents/guardians will be issued a specific number and rear view mirror tag that corresponds to the child/children they are picking up. Parents/guardians will wait in their vehicle until their child is dismissed from the building. Students will safely walk independently or be escorted to the vehicle. Adults are not permitted to park and enter the building at dismissal time. Once the child is in the vehicle and safely buckled, parents/guardians are required to leave the designated area following the car in front of them, single file. Students who are not picked up by 2:45pm will be escorted to the main office to wait for an adult pick up. Should an adult be picking up your child that does not normally do so, parents/guardians are required to send a note in with their child that morning to notify the school of who will be picking up the student.
• Obey the speed zone
WALKERS: Independent walkers will be dismissed as a cohort and will leave school grounds separate from bus departure.
TRAFFIC SAFETY: Traffic congestion at the school continues to be a safety concern. Parents/ guardians are strongly encouraged to have their child learn to use the school bus, and use the bus to go to and from school on a regular basis. Should parents choose to drop off or pick up their child, please do so safely:
Parents/guardians are not permitted to park and walk their child to their classroom. School staff will be located at the entrance to help and support students should it be needed.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
It is the expectation at Cazenovia High School that all students will graduate with a Regents or Regents Advanced Designation diploma. All students must pass all five required Regents Exams with a score In addition, students with IEPs, who do not score between 55 and 64 percent, have a continuation of the “Safety Net” as established by the NYS Board of Regents. If a student with an IEP does not score between 55 and 64 percent on one or more of the five required Regents Exams, they will be allowed to take a Regents Competency Test. Students who have a 504 Plan, which specifically states that the student is eligible for the “Safety Net,” can obtain a local diploma. In these cases, passing Regents Competency Test(s) gives the student local credit toward graduation. the Program of Studies the school website.
Letter grades are no longer used on interim progress reports, report cards or transcripts. The following system can be used as a reference for letter grades. Some resources might list letter grades. Below are the numerical equivalents: Report Cards Quarterly report card averages shall be calculated using a weight equal to the credit value of the course, excluding P.E. classes, which are not included in the averages. This will also be the basis for calculating quarterly Honor Rolls. End-of-year or course final averages shall also carry an extra credit value for AP exam courses. A value of 1.06 shall be added to the annual course average for a student who has been enrolled in and completes an AP course, including taking the AP exam. AP weighting takes place after the AP exam. If a student in grades 9-12 enrolled in an AP course does not take the AP exam at the end of the year, then that final course grade shall not have an AP extra credit value.
C.C.S.D. requires all students to complete 40 hours of community service to graduate. Students may begin accumulating hours July 1st of their 8th grade year. To be eligible for early release/late entry privileges, seniors must have 30 hours of community service completed by the first day of school their senior year and 40 hours by the 1st day of the 2nd semester senior year. 100–97 A+ 93–96 A 90–92 A–87–89 B+ 83–86 B 80–82 B–77–79 C+ 73–76 C 70–72 C–65–69 D Below 65 F
