Elizabeth Brady
My name is Elizabeth Brady and I’m a grade 12 student at J.C. Charyk School in Hanna. This is my seventh year in beef 4-H and I really enjoy it. My steer this year is a Black Angus steer named McQueen . He is a February born calf and has grown into a very nice steer. I have taken him to many junior shows including the Heartland Cattleman Classic show in Stettler, the Chinook Show in Claresholm and the Cry Show in Olds. I am planning on taking him to the Cody Sibbald Legacy Classic in Beechy, SK at the end of May. I am very proud of all the hard work and care I have put into my steer this past season and hope to see you at the Show and Sale in Hanna on June 7.
Mandy Conners
My name is Mandy Conners and this is my 8th year in 4-H. This year I have chosen a Limousin/Angus cross steer. I chose this steer because he has a large frame, deep body, natural muscling, and big bones and could hold a lot of meat. His gentle temper has made him supper easy to work with. As of April 30 he weighs 1500 lbs. I will also be showing a black Limousin/Angus heifer. The reason I like 4H is that I am always learning new things and skills to help me in the future. The best part of the 4H year is the show and sale because I get to see my friends and showcase my animals. Thank you to Ridge Ranch/Greg and Karen Groten for buying my steer last year. Please join us for our show and sale in Hanna on June 7, 2025 for supper at 5:00PM and the sale at 7:00PM.
Kelly Laughlin
Hello my name is Kelly Laughlin. This is my 5th steer project. I have been in 4H for 7 years now. Last November I picked him out of my family farm’s main herd because of his frame size. I believed he would fill out nicely. Since then he has gained over 500lb. He is a Limo cross. I am very satisfied with how my steer has turned out. Thank You to Danny from Pine Ridge Supply for buying my last year ’s calf! My favourite part about 4H is it teaches kids about livestock, and getting more cattle handling experience.
Kale MacMillan
Kale MacMillan. This is my 9th year in 4-H. This year I have a steer, heifer and two year old project. My steer is a home-raised Simmental Angus and my heifer and two year old are Simmental Cross. I would like to thank Jeremy Leismer for buying my steer last year.

I would like to thank Jeremy Leismer for buying my steer last year.
Kate Brady
My name is Kate Brady and I am in grade 9 at J.C. Charyk School in Hanna. This is my fourth year in beef 4-H and I really enjoy it. My steer this year is a Charolais named Mack. He was a March born calf and has grown into a very nice steer. I have taken him to several junior shows including the Heartland Cattleman Classic show in Stettler, the Chinook Show in Claresholm and the Cry Show in Olds. I am planning on taking him to the Cody Sibbald Legacy Classic in Beechy, SK at the end of May. Logan Miller
Hi my name's Logan Miller and I’m a Senior in the Dryland multi club. This year I had a steer who I showed in the Oyen Beef Expo in February but he unfortunately passed away in April. However, I have a herd of females in the female show on June 6th!

Brady Bignell
Hi, my name is Brady Bignell. This is my third year in 4H with the Dryland Multi Club. This year I chose a Simmental calf from our own herd. I picked this calf because he looked good from the start, with a solid frame and balanced body. He weighed 1120lbs as of April 13, 2025. I am excited to show this steer at Show and Sale and hope to see you there!
Evangeline Miller
Hello, my name is Evy Miller, a second-year 4-H member and two-time survivor of Provincial Public Speak Off’s. I’ m here to introduce the star of the show: my steer, Thunder. Thunder is basically a four-legged eating machine with a passion for snacks and a body so well-built, that it makes you wonder if he’s been secretly lifting hay bales when I’ m not looking. As of May 1st, Thunder weighs 1270lbs with a daily gain of 3.8lbs. He’s got conformation for days and an appetite that could empty a feed bin faster than you can say “prime rib.” While I love working with Thunder, we both know how this ends he’s destined to become the most delicious VIP in someone’s freezer.
Brandt Grover and Brooklyn Laughlin enjoyed another exciting year as Cleavers! They took part in a variety of activities including weigh-in, public speaking, dump clean-up, clipping clinic and mock show. Each event gave them a chance to learn new skills, work with their peers and grow their confidence. However, what they look forward to the most is showing their calves at the annual Show and Sale. Be sure to stop by for a visit and see their calves!
This year we are again raising 600 pheasant chicks with Pheasant 4H and have been fortunate to add 1700 to this number through the ACA (Alberta Conservation Association) and 4-H collaborative program. As well, we have several hundred eggs in incubators from our last year’s birds and expect all of these babies to join us the second week in May. The ACA allows members to purchase day-old chicks from the hatchery and works to get the birds shipped into several larger centres nearby. Our birds will be coming from Royal Game Birds in Ontario this year. We raise the birds from one-day-old until fully feathered and grown and market the mature birds at the end of the program in Sept/Oct - mostly for release, hunts and dog training programs. Most of our mature birds went to Spruce Creek Farms at Torrington once again last year and we look forward to their continued support this year. We are also excited to add the Prairieland Athletic Association as one of our main buyers for their Oyen Pheasant Festival in the fall!! We thoroughly enjoy watching our pheasants grow into large, healthy birds with beautiful colouring and welcome everyone to come and see/join our program as we continue to grow and learn.

Thanks to Cash Norris’ post secondary education we tried a new breaking technique and Buferd was settled down and was on halter pretty fast! He’s is stout and thick through the shoulder with depth through his hip, a sure sign that he is a good mix of muscle and marbling. As a first year senior, 4-H has offered me the opportunity to be the Club Treasurer and hone my skills as a Public Speaker & Rancher. Other projects that I have this year are my Female Herd (heifer, 2 & 3 yr old), Pen of 3 heifers and a big ol’ Carcass animal. Thanks to Cophill Cattle (G’Ma & G’Pa Rude) for purchasing my steer last year...he sure has been tasty;) Looking forward to seeing you all on June 6 as we Showcase our Female Projects & June 7 for our Market Steer Show and Sale!
Macy Lyster
My name is Macy Lyster and this is my 1st year in 4-H. My steer, “Dallas” was one of the quietest calves in our steer pen this fall. I was able to scratch him that day in the sorting pen! He’s a big, thick Charolais Cross steer. My steer is gaining over 4 lbs a day and should weigh around 1,600 pounds on Achievement Day. I learned a lot this year in my first year of 4-H and love it so far! I look forward to seeing you in Hanna at our show and sale on Saturday, June 7
Fallyn Duque
Hi my name is Fallyn Duque and this is my 4th year in 4-H. This year, I have a home raised Simmental steer and his name is Archer. Archer is such a quiet calf that sometimes at feeding time I can run and jump on his back and ride him around the pen. He is gaining weight nicely and should finish out at around1504. I would like to thank Chase and Ashley Olsen for purchasing my last years calf!
Ridge Foot
My name is Ridge Foot and I am a first year I Intermediate. This is my steer Moe Syzslak. He is a home grown Char cross steer. I really like how deep and long Moe is. I would like to thank my buyers from last year Oyen Concrete and Ryan and Simone Hagens. They gave me the opportunity to show my steer Big Bear at the Canadian Charolais Youth Association summer show. It was a great learning experience!
Rayna Murray
My name is Rayna Murray, and I have the privilege of offering you something truly special. Let me introduce you to Oliver. I've had my eye on Oliver since last fall, I knew he had the quality to be my show steer, and I put everything I had into raising him right. But Oliver is more than just a show steer. He's an opportunity. An opportunity for a family, or maybe even several families, to enjoy the most delicious, beef all year long. Oliver has been raised with care, dedication, and the kind of attention that ensures the absolute highest quality meat. So please, join us in Hanna on June 7th for our show and sale! And if you can't be there in person, don't miss out! You can bid online through DLMS and still have the chance to bring Oliver home to your table. Thank you.
This year we have a small but enthusiastic group of cleavers! They have enjoyed many

Kaydence Baird
Hello my name is Kaydence Baird and I have been doing 4-H for 7 years now. I also have been enjoying it more every year. I'm in my first year as an intermediate in the Hanna Rangeland 4-H Multi Club. I would love to introduce you to my steer Frankie. I chose Frankie to be my show steer this year because he stood out in the corral when we were weaning. I also chose him for his great attitude as he is so quiet and calm with me. Frankie is a Angus-Maine cross steer. I continue to learn about care, feeding and finishing my animal so he is just right. I have learned so far it takes money but more than that it's a lot of work to get them to finish just right. The best part of the 4-H year is show and sale because I get to see my fellow 4-H members showcase their animals and I get to showcase my animals. Not only do I have a steer this year but I will also will be showing a Red Angus heifer and my Black Angus-Maine cow-calf pair. I look forward to seeing everyone there so please join us for our female show June 6 and our Show and Sale June 7, 2025!
Kaylie-Ann Baird
Hi, my name is Kaylie-Ann Baird and this is my first year with a market steer. I was a cleaver for 3 years then last year I had a heifer project. I am really excited to show my 1st show steer! I'm honored to introduce to you my market steer Blue. Blue is an Angus Simmental. Blue is a very friendly boy and sweet. He has taught me so much this year about hard work, care, feeding and dedication. I hope you like Blue as much as I do and have a great time at our show in Hanna this year on June 6&7. I will also be showing a Red Angus heifer, my Red Angus Maine Anjou cowcalf pair and as well as my market swine.
Laynee Long
My name is Laynee Long. I am in my 3rd year of 4-H but my first year as a junior member with the Hanna Rangeland Multi Club. My very first steer, Rusty, is a Speckle Park x Simmental. He is very quiet and easy to work with and has been a great first calf. I learned the hard way that he hates mud and snow and will not walk through either. Sometimes he can be pretty stubborn and he doesn’t like having his head clipped but he is usually a big puppy dog. He enjoys being groomed and his pen-mate and buddy is a miniature donkey. I picked Rusty out all by myself and I’m very happy with how he’ s finishing. I look forward to wrapping up the year and showing him off on June 7th. He will be a great purchase to fill your freezer. Thank you for your support of 4-H and I look forward to seeing you at the Show and Sale!

I would like to thank Hanna Chrysler for purchasing my steer last year.

Hello, my name is Callie Mashon. I have been doing 4-H for 11 years, and I have been enjoying it more every year. This is my steer, Marv, he is a powerful home-raised Red Angus cross. He is long-bodied, has a wide build from every angle, is deep throughout his shoulders to his flank, and has strong muscling. He is a huge sweetheart and is always the first one to feed. Marv and I have been going to shows all spring together and working on showmanship and grooming. He is a wonderful steer, and I can confidently say he will taste delicious on your plate! Thank you for showing your support to our 4-H community by attending the Show and Sale. I would also like to thank Hanna Motor Products for buying my calf last year!
Leevi Quaschnick
My name is Leevi Quaschnick, this is my fifth year of 4-H. My market steer, Bean, is a Black Angus. He was a challenge to halter break for me as he is WAY bigger than me. He is finishing nicely and he will fill that freezer for sure!

Ryland Ayrey
Hi, my name is Ryland Ayrey and this is my first year in 4H. My steers name is Kelly, and he’s a homegrown Simmental. Kelly is calm, friendly, and always the first to greet me at the gate. He loves getting pets and attention, and he’s always trying to sneak an extra bite of feed when he thinks I’m not looking! I've learned a lot from this experience and had a great time working with Kelly.
Colby Scott
I’m Colby Scott and this is my 10th and final year in the Hanna Rangeland Multi Club. Next year I will be attending the University of Saskatchewan pursuing a degree in Agribusiness. In my time in 4-H I have done many different projects, held various executive positions, and was an East Central Regional Ambassador for the last 2 years. My steer this year is a Simmental Shorthorn X that I got from Elevation Land and Cattle in Saskatchewan. He is by far the best steer I have raised in terms of size and structure, he was 1255lbs at the end of February and hasn’t stopped gaining. He has a big frame and is very well muscled: a trait that makes leading him around a labour intensive affair. I would like to thank Desertland Cattle for buying my steer last year as well as all the previous buyers of my market animals. While my time in 4-H is over I hope that the skills I have learned will help me down the road in life.
Klyde Griffith
Hello, I am Klyde Griffith, and it’s finally my turn to be a 4H member after following my brother around for the last 3 years! I picked 18G out of our herd last fall and was not letting my brother have him. I named him Teddy Bear because that is what he is, only he is getting way too big to snuggle now! I had the opportunity to show Teddy Bear 3 times this winter and was happy how well he did in the ring. Teddy Bear is out of a performance Charolais Bull and a big Angus x Simmental Cow. I want to say Thank You to our club’s leaders for all the time you spend helping and coaching us members!
Rexstin Griffith
Hello! I am Rexstin Griffith and this is my 3rd year in 4H, and my final year as a junior member. I named my Steer Winchester because of my love for hunting, and I spent all last year hunting for the perfect Steer, and I found him!! Winchester is exceptionally quiet, as I took him to 3 shows this winter which he did great at. He is sired by one of our top performing Charolais Bulls and an Angus x Hereford Cow we purchased from Plover Lake Ranch a few years ago. Winchester is a long, thick, deep and smooth steer who will taste fantastic fresh off the BBQ this summer. I would like to thank Nate Horner Ranches for purchasing my last year’s 4H steer!
Meredith Gross
My name is Meredith Gross and this is my first year in 4H. I am 9 years old. This is my steer Spark. He’s Red Angus crossed with Simmental. He enjoys scratches on his back and being brushed on his tummy and I have had a very good year with him.
Tucker Clarke
Hello, my name is Tucker. This is my second year in 4-H. This is my first year having a Market Steer. My project’ s name is Jeff. He is a big, juicy, and fat Simmental X Angus. Thank you so much to all the 4-H buyers that support us!

I purchased my lamb from the same place as last year and picked out a nice big ram lamb. I named him Ranger, as the New York Ranger’s are my favourite NHL team. Ranger was by far the longest lamb in the pen and carries his muscle from his shoulders down over his hips. I want to take the opportunity to say Thank You to my Uncle Weanie (Desertland Cattle Company) for purchasing my last year’s market lamb!

I really enjoy sheep and am excited to be in both Market and the Ewe projects this year. I picked out Mable from the same place as I purchased my Cleaver lamb last year. Mable stuck out in the pen as she was big and growthy. She is square with strong back legs that carry the muscle down from rack over the hip to the hock. I want to say Thank you to all the sponsors that help make the Hanna District 4H Achievement Day a success.

Klyde Griffith
Hi again! I am Klyde Griffith and this is my 1st year in market swine. I was so excited when the Sow farrowed last November to see her babies but since it was a blizzard, they didn’t come out of the straw for about a week. Ziggy is what I named my pig, she was so cute when she was little but boy did she scream when I chased her, that also got the mom excited! I no longer chase her because she chases me as she loves to be scratched and demands attention. Her favourite treat is fresh milk from the milk cow. Ziggy is a Hereford x Landrace pig who is long and square and will taste delicious with pancakes and syrup.
Rexstin Griffith
Me Again! I am Rexstin Griffith and this is my 3rd year in market swine. We purchased some Sows last year and a Boar so that we could make our own 4H projects. Let me tell you this has been an adventure and raising pigs isn’t that simple!! I named my Pig Borris because he was a huge piglet and survived a blizzard the night he was born. Borris is as thick as he is long and you are going to want to eat his bacon and chops! He is super friendly and loves drinking fresh milk off the milk cow daily! I would also like to thank Plover Lake Ranch for purchasing my last year’s pig.

HUGE Thank You to all who donated to our 2024 Charity Steer! The Hanna District raised $34,100 for Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta!! We couldn’t have done it without our sponsors Adam, Brandi, Winston, Emmie & Jade Smith– Steer Donation, Travis & Nichole Foot– Animal Caretakers and Steven & Sandra Rude– Feed Donation
Our Charity Steer was able to fill the freezers at the Oyen & District Food Bank and Hanna Food Bank with over 400 lbs of meat each!
This overwhelming success was an amazing lesson in giving back to a meaningful cause. Many District families who have spent time within the walls of a Ronald McDonald House joined our graduates in the ring demonstrating the impact the organization has to our communities!
Born out of necessity to raise District funds in 2021while still socially distancing during COVID the online auction has become a popular event for both its donators and bidders. Every second year each family in the district donates an item to the auction to assist in raising funds to help cover costs associated with our annual Show and Sale. The auction isn’t limited to just members but it open to friends of 4-H as well and the response has been amazing! Collectively the three auctions held in 2021, 2023, and 2025 have raised over $40,000 which has helped cover costs for DLMS, building rent, shavings, judges, supper on sale day and trucking just to name a few expenses. Watch for the next online auction on Facebook in 2027!
