Raising a 4-H steer involves a comprehensive process, from selection and care to preparation for a show and sale.
It requires dedication, knowledge, and a commitment to providing a healthy and well-managed environment for the animal.
We learn how to care for an animal and take pride in the fact that the animal we have worked so hard to raise is going to turn into a product that feeds others.
“Learn to do by doing.” We learn what it takes to raise an animal for food and then let them go.
Harvest dates are pre booked at abattoirs for our buyers convenience.

Hello, my name is Casey Yakubow and this is my 4th year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef club. This year I have a stunning black Angus steer named Goose; he displays the Angus features very well. He really enjoys getting his brisket scratched and is sure to taste fantastic. Goose and I would love to see you at the show and sale!
What’s going on fellas! I’m Kaydee Weleschuk, and this is my first ever market steer. I worked with my big brother Brady, older sister Karly, and my brothers best bud Chuck all year long raising this guy. I named him CHILLI. Chilli got named after the famous Zamboni driver at the rink where I play hockey. I just thought it was such a cool name! My big job most of the winter was looking after filling the water bowl and of course scratching and combing Chilli. The bags of feed were so heavy I often suckered the boys and my sister to carry them for me …but hey I got the water guys hehe. Please consider lifting your hand high in the air when Chilli and I enter the ring…or I’ll get my mom to tickle you and you’ll have no choice!

Hi, my name is Kinley Smith, and this is my second year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef club. This year, I have a black Angus steer named Jasper. He is a twin, and his sibling, Ember, belongs to my sister. It’s been really fun raising them together and watching them grow. Jasper is so cute and friendly! Every time I walk into his pen, he comes right up to me, wanting pets and attention. He loves getting brushed and will stand there happily while I scratch his favorite spots. I’ve been working on halter training him more, but the weather recently turned snowy and cold. Brrr! Because of that, I haven’t been able to work with him as much as I’d like, but he’s still so sweet and always excited to see me. I have loved spending time with Jasper, and he has such a great personality. He is playful, curious, and always looking for treats. I know I’ll be really sad when it’s time to sell him, but I’m also proud of all the work I’ve put into raising him. He will always be a special steer to me.
KYLE OGRODNICK - Senior Member
My Name is Kyle Ogrodnick and this is Tee Grizzly, he’s a Charolais steer with a tan coat. He comes running for hay but can be stubborn on the halter. This calf has a lot of depth and will make for a tasty steak. Thank you for all the buyers for coming out and supporting our club.

ELLA MCCALLUM - Senior Member
Hello, my name is Ella McCallum, I’m 15 years old and this is now my 3rd year in Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. This year I just have my market steer, Choice, second Choice because the first choice jumped the fence and ran away. He is long, wide and deep and should make many great steaks when he is butchered! He is Charolais X Angus out of one of our cows, he is very patient and calm. I would like to thank Speedy Septic for purchasing my steer last year and all the other 4-H buyers. Choice looks great here but will look even better on your grill! We are excited to see you on Achievement Day!
Hello, may name is Emma Trabysh, I am 10 years old, and this is my first year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. I have two projects this year, a steer and a heifer. My Simmental steer’s name is Ivan. He loves to get scratches, and he has been stubborn to walk. But the more time I spend with him, and halter him the easier it gets. I joined this club because I love halter breaking animals, and it will be a great experience for me. I am looking forward to achievement day.

Hello, my name is Chase Forsyth, I am the President of the club this year and it is my fifth year of 4-H. I would like to thank Rocky Mountain Equipment for buying my steer last year. This year my Show Steer is named Sammy. He is a Simmental and only one of my many projects. He is eating Country Junction Junior Show Finisher and Hay. I also have a Provincial Carcass Project named Roan, my heifer Gem and my 2-year-old cow-calf Kathy, who had twins this year. The one calf Kate stayed on Kathy however my mom decided it would be too hard on Kathy to raise both of them so the other one, Katie went on a different cow and is now my little sister‘s Cleaver Calf.
PAITEN AXTEN - Intermediate Member
Good day! I am Paiten and this year I am raising a Simmental-Angus steer named Rambo for your consideration. I picked him out of our own herd as he had a long deep body and was my favorite color, black. He loves to lay under the fan all day and his baths at night. I would like to thank Deerland for purchasing my steer last year and hope to meet you May 26.

Hi! My name is Cole Homeniuk. This is my second year as a junior member of the Vegreville 4-H beef club. My steer is a Simmental/Black Angus cross named Beast. I picked that name because he has a thick coat of hair. Beast loves to eat grain and work with the show stick. We look forward to seeing you at Achievement Day!
Hey all! I’m Karly Weleschuk. This here is BUD my 5th market steer of my 4-H career. No, he wasn’t named after a popular adult beverage like my dad will claim he is, but exactly what it sounds like, MY BUDDY. The two of us have had such a phenomenal year. Bud has been so tame and fun to work with from the very start of this season. I take a lot of pride in this animal as I think he walks with a purpose and is as confident in himself as I am in him. I’d like to thank Vision Credit Union for the purchase of my market steer last year, along with the 4-H market steer loan program they provide to our members. Good luck to all the buyers and don’t forget WE LOVE ALBERTA 4-H BEEF!
My name is Luke Brooke and I am a new member in the Vegreville Beef Club. I had previously been a part of the Viking 4-H Beef Club for 8 years before it folded in the previous 4-H year because of lack of members. My steer this year is named Finale in recognition of my final year in 4-H after many committed years to the program. I am very proud to be presenting Finale through the Vegreville Beef Club, he represents all the years of hard work my family and myself have worked so very hard for. Through all the years in 4-H, I have never had an animal so easy to halter break and with such an incredible rate of gain. I am happy to say that Finale is the perfect steer to represent my final sale through 4-H. Beside Finale, there has been a long list of females that I have shown in 4-H throughout the years. The newest of that line will be present at the show and sale, and I will be happy to tell you stories on the present and past females in my program.
I’m Avery Ziegler and this is my 5th year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. My steer’s name is Will and he is an Angus Charolais cross. I’d like to thank Black Dog Outfitters for purchasing my steer last year! See you on May 26th.
Hello I’m Avery Pipke, I’m a third year 4-H member. My calf is Boris he’s a calm friendly black Angus Simmental cross. He loves his brisket being scratched and long romantic walks in the corral. He’s going to make someone very happy to take home. I also have a heifer project this year, named Ruby. She is a purebred black Simmental.
AXTEN - Junior Member
Howdy I am Cooper. This is my 3rd year as a junior in the club. This is my steer, Donald Trump; he is going to be great tasting. He is a Simmental/Angus cross that is black in color. He enjoys spending long hours laying in the straw sleeping and hanging out with his buddy steer. I joined 4-H because it is teaching me the skills of how to operate my own farm when I grow up, helping save for my education, a truck and a wife. I would like to thank Bonness Supply for purchasing my steer last year and can’t wait to meet you at our show and sale May 26. Don’t forget to come for supper.

Hello my name is Madison Warawa and I am 16 years old, this is my 5th year in the Vegreville 4-H club. My steer’s name is Elvis and is a Black Angus Simmental cross steer that I bought from Jesse Lindburgh. Elvis has been growing great all year and is a gentle guy. He was easy to train on the lead rope but still gets a little stubborn from time to time. Overall he’s an awesome steer and can’t wait to show him at our Achievement Day. Hope to see you all at our show and sale.
Hi! My name is Ayden Homeniuk and this is my third year as a member of the Vegreville 4-H beef club. My steer is a Simmental/Black Angus cross named Bruce. He has been friendly since we brought him home from pasture. Watch out! If you aren’t giving him enough attention, he will let you know. We are excited to see you all at Achievement Day!
Howdy! My name is Mason Yakubow and this is my 1st year as a Junior member in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. This is my black Angus steer Jimmy. He was my cleaver calf last year and some of you might remember him jumping out of the Cleaver pen last year. We have come a long way together and have a fantastic bond. I’m certain Jimmy will provide some amazing AAA steaks. We hope to see you on Achievement Day.
Hello, my name is Maia Smith, and this is my second year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. Now, this funky boy with his shiny midnight-black coat is Ember, a Black Angus steer. He’s actually a twin to Jasper, my sister’s steer, and if you think telling Black Angus cattle apart is tricky, try doing it with twins! Our two love to play together, and one thing’s for sure, Ember never says no to grain!

Hi there, I’m Brady Weleschuk, this is my 7th market steer project and quite possibly my favorite. Why you ask yourself…well I had my eye on this mountain of a steer from the day he was born, he just had this swagger about him that drew me to him. Working with him this past year I can see why, VON has got an extremely well-rounded frame from front to back and has been a pleasure to work with from the start. I encourage everyone to see if they can find what I’m talking about in this calf and please consider taking him home after he enters the sales ring! Big shout out to last years buyer Canadian Pressure Testing, along with my runner up bidder as he has always supported me in the past Maddigan Chrysler! Happy buying ladies and gents!!
CORBYN ZIEGLER - Senior Member
I’m Corbyn Ziegler and this is my 5th year with the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. My steer this year is an Angus Charolais cross named Dougie. I’d like to thank Rona Vegreville for purchasing my steer last year! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Achievement Day.
Hey everyone, my name is Logan Brooke and this is my first year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. I was previously a member of the Viking Beef Club for six years. Well that’s enough about me I’d like to introduce you to Monster, he is a purebred black Angus steer, he weighs around 1500 pounds right now and he has already been to a show this spring. Monster is the perfect steer to fill your freezer. I also have a wide range of 4-H female projects like a heifer, two-year-old pair and three-year-old pair these will all be shown at Achievement Day. See you there!
KLAMMER - Intermediate Member
Hello everyone, this is my second year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club, and I’m proud to be part of such an amazing group. I would like to sincerely thank Black Dog Outfitters for purchasing my steer, Klaus. It truly meant a lot to me. This year, my steer is named Scotch. He’s a purebred Simmental and one of the calmest, friendliest steers you’ll ever meet. One of my favorite things about him is how he always walks up to me in the pen, looking for attention. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone at Achievement Day.
Market Steers for your
Howdy! My name is Sydney Sen and I am a 3rd year Junior member. I would like to thank Grant Miller Motors for purchasing my steer last year. Ladies and gentlemen, this year I would like to introduce you to Squishy. Squishy is a homegrown Hereford/ Simmental cross. I never could have asked for a better steer to work with. Squishy is calm, kind and was born almost halter broke. From the moment we began working with him, he just went with the flow. He has been growing on a steady ration of Country Junction Show Finishing Feed along with some hay and the odd snack of rolled barley/oats. Squishy loves his long thick body brushed and don’t forget about that great big squishy hug at the end. Please don’t hesitate to raise your hand on sale day as I promise you he will be a tasty one to fill that freezer.
CHARLIE BJORNSON - Senior Member
Hello! My name is Charlie Bjornson. This is my first year in 4-H. Thankfully, I truly have the best steer around! Jordan B is a Saler steer from Scattered Spruce Salers. Jordan is always the first to feed bin and loves scratches. I want to thank the Weleschuk family for assisting Jordan and I in this new adventure of raising a 4-H Market Steer.
Hi my name is Nate Pipke this is my first year as a 4-H Junior member. I did 2 years as a cleaver. My calf’s name is an Otis he is a black Angus Simmental cross. I picked him because I liked how curly his fur was and how long he has. He doesn’t like being tied up to long but loves scratches behind his ears. He is always the first one to the trough.
Hello everyone, my name is Riley Warawa and the guy next to me is Dirk. I am 17 years old and this is my 5th year in 4-H. Dirk is a black Simmental and I bought him from Rafter 4T Farms, he’s been awesome to work with super quiet and super easy to train for Achievement Day and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at this years show and sale.

My name is Zander Smith, and this is my second year in the Vegreville 4-H Beef Club. This year, I’m raising a steer named Copper, a Red Angus-Simmental cross. Copper is so tame that I can even ride him, but don’t expect to see that on Achievement Day! Instead, you might just catch me giving him a little extra push through the arena.

Hi! My name is Ava Homeniuk and this is my second year as a cleaver the Vegreville 4-H beef club. My calf is named Dexter or Dex for short and he is a Simmental/Black Angus cross. He is a twin, but his mom didn’t accept him. He stays in the same pen as my brother’s steers. He loves his bottle and follows me around the pen constantly. I am looking forward to showing him off at Achievement Day!
I’m Maverick Schell, I am six years old and this is my first year in 4-H as a Cleaver. My calf’s name is Rocket and she is a Saler. She loves attention but she also loves to get the zoomies and buckys so I have to watch out!! I love spending time with her. We are very excited for our first Achievement Day!!
Hi, my name is Lily Hlus. This is my first year as a Cleaver. I have a rare genetic disorder, as a result I have an intellectual disability. Though I may not be able to speak I am very good at getting my point across and I love animals. I am excited whenever we have a 4-H event. I will be showing one of my big brother, Chase’s twins, her name is Katie. I will be having my brother helping me in the show ring.
Hello my name is Teagan and I am 7 years old. This is my first real year of being in 4-H. My bull calf is a purebred Simmental named Taco. I had to wait a long time for him to be born. Taco’s mom was my sisters female project for 4-H and he was hard to catch when we put him in the pasture. This is the best year ever in 4-H with Taco and I love all the crafts Mrs. Tiff brings for meeting nights.
Hi! My name is Colten Fischer and I am in my first year as a Cleaver. I am excited about working with my calf project and showing them at our Achievement Day.
This is my second year as a Cleaver, and I love being in 4-H. I like playing tag with my Cleaver friends and doing fun crafts that Tiffany brings. I’ve made some really great friends and always look forward to our meetings. Being a Cleaver is so much fun.
I’m Jackson Ziegler. This is my 3rd year (and last) as a Cleaver in the Beef club. My calf this year is a black Angus I named Mr. Beast. He is cute, curious and has a big head. I’m hoping to use him next year for my first market steer as a Junior member. We’re excited for this year’s Achievement Day.
PORTER SCHELL
My name is Porter Schell and I am 6 years old. I am a first year Cleaver. My calf’s name is Marshmallow, she is a Charlois. Marshmallow likes to bunt me all the time for her bottle and run around with Rocket. She is a twin, just like me! We are very excited for our first Achievement Day!
Hi, my name is Jaxon Fischer. I am in my first year as a Cleaver with the club. I’m excited to learn more about cows, calves and showing my calf project.
I’m Logan Ziegler and this is my 1st year as a Cleaver in the Beef club. My calf is a black Angus who I named Messi (after my favorite soccer player). He’s cute and small. I’m excited to have my first calf and can’t wait to show him off!
