WELCOME TO THE SALE 2010 has been an interesting year to say the least. Mother nature has really showed us that she has a strange sense of humour. Farmers and ranchers have shown their resilience and we are all looking forward to 2011. Our program continues to advance and we want to thank the 2010 buyers who put their trust in our program and shared in our vision for the future. The Blair family has deep history in Agriculture. We are a 3rd generation integrated ag solutions operation with generations of experience in purebred livestock and grain production. We are very committed to the future of the Angus breed in North America and look forward to the challenges and rewards that will come with that vision. Our family believes very strongly in strategic partnerships and have enjoyed success over the years because of those trusted partners. We are again excited to have the opportunity to include some very important partners in our Bull Sale. The sale name “Pursuit of Excellence” also serves as a mission statement of sorts. We are committed to making a difference in the Angus breed for both our commercial and purebred customers’ benefit. We will do our best to help shape the future of the livestock industry by showing unprecedented commitment to genetic improvement. Embryo technology and AI will continue to help us with breed improvement, and we will commit to the most rigorous culling criteria in the industry. We have a strategic black/red carrier program to help with expansion of the Red Angus gene pool and are committed to that promise. We are fortunate to have two very important families play extremely important roles in our vision for the future. We would like to thank our Herdsmen – Chad & Carissa Haaland and our ET program team – Levi/Carmen and Chance Jackson. We are committed to a team approach and have assembled a “Genetic Advancement Team” that helps us with breeding, selection and marketing decisions. Thanks to Kelly Schmidt, Chris Schmidt, Patty Smith and Craig Blair for their input. In the fall of 2010 Travis MacPherson joined our team and is responsible to manage our show and sale cattle on a day to day basis in Lanigan. We are proud to introduce Travis and excited to have him as a key part of our team. At Blairs.Ag Cattle Company we have two separate calving periods with a group of ET calves and bred heifers calving in February and our main cowherd calving in April/May. We sell all eligible bulls that are born from the early calving program as yearlings, and all spring born bulls are sold as 2-year-olds. Two-year-olds will make up a significant part of our sale offering in the future as we believe that properly developed 2-year olds are the future but we will always have early born calves from our ET program that will sell as yearlings. We lost a special bull in Red Ter-Ron Prowler 833T. This will be the last of the Prowlers except for a very small handful in next year’s sale as 2-year-olds. I think we have found a perfect match for Mulberry daughters in Prowler. The HLR Lass 1T cow is the Mulberry daughter off the great Lass 41N. We sold Lass 1T in our first Red Roundup for $21,000 (half interest) to SooLine Cattle Company. You can start to see a pattern here as we have another descendant of the great Lass 41N. When Lass 41N was slapped National Champion in 2005, Lass 7R was the Integrity calf at side. You can see that the combination of Mambo, Integrity and now Prowler has come together in a herd bull that will be on everyone’s “Top 5” list. I am not sure if you will find a more balanced set of EPD’s in a power bull genetic package. You can breed Prowler 214X to cows or heifers and he will raise replacement heifers and power bulls.
