Twenty-nine years ago, a few dedicated Santa Gertrudis breeders established the Alabama Connection Sale. Our motto then and now is the same: Only sell cattle that the customer will be proud to own, and that means selling our best. Many animals have been sold in this sale and gone on to be national champions, great producers in the pasture and successful donor cows. Today is no different than 29 years ago. Tinney Farms, Grandview Farms and Gray Oaks Farm have dug deep in our herds to present you some examples of the type of cattle it takes to be a viable producer in this breed.

Santa Gertrudis Genetics The Santa Gertrudis Breeders International (SGBI) genetic evaluation is one of the most comprehensive among the Bos indicus breeds. The evaluation system, developed for the association by Livestock Genetic Services, has been reviewed by the nation’s leading animal geneticists and utilizes genotypes collected from the breed’s leading sires and validated on 10K, 20K and 50K SNP Chips. Thousands of ranch phenotypes and scan records collected over a 25-year period serve as the foundation of the genetic evaluation. SGBI’s reliable genetic evaluation ensures that cattlemen can make sound selection decisions, identifying those animals that will perform in the most challenging of environmental conditions.

SGBI Expected Progeny Differences– Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) are the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the SGBI database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure (plus or minus) for each trait evaluated, and are calculated utilizing pedigree and performance information. In 2014, SGBI released the first genomic-enhanced (i.e., DNA-verified) EPDs for Bos indicus-influenced cattle. The inclusion of DNA into the breed’s EPD calculations results in information that is more accurate and predicable than a pedigree and performance SGBI EPD Percentiles by Trait August 2017 prediction alone.

Sale Terms & Conditions Except for those stated in the following terms and conditions, there are no warranties, either expressed or implied, as to the merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the cattle being sold at this auction.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or check, payable at sale location.

DISPUTES: Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between parties involved.

HERD HEALTH: Cattle from accredited herds will have an interstate health certificate. Other sale animals will have an individual health certificate indicating a clean test for Brucellosis (Bangs) and Tuberculosis (TB) within 30 days of the sale.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over the printed material in this catalog. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: The proper registration will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE: Cows represented as being pregnancy tested “safe in calf” have been examined and declared safe by a licensed veterinarian and will be accompanied by a veterinarian’s

certificate to this effect. They are considered breeders without further guarantee. Cows with calves at side shall be considered breeders also without further guarantee. Cows and heifers represented as “bred” are not guaranteed safe in calf, but they and open heifers selling as individual lots are guaranteed breeders. No guarantee shall apply to suckling calves. No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver a live calf or that she will carry a calf full term. The seller is not responsible for damages caused by foreign bodies after the animals have been sold and for sickness not apparent at sale time. Bulls sell with satisfactory semen test within 30 days of sale.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, Auctioneer nor seller assumes any responsibility in this manner and disdains any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

LIABILITY: The Sales Management and/or Auctioneer has been employed by the consignors of the animals being sold solely for the purpose of advertising and conducting the subject sale.
