Sale Information

Herd Health: All cattle will be accompanied by proper health certificates for immediate shipment. All Cattle have a negative BVD test, are free of Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM) and Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH) and Contractural Arachnodactyly (CA). All cattle must meet one of the following TB testing requirements: Have an individual TB test within 60 days of the sale or Originate from an accredited TB free herd, or accredited TB free state. Cattle orginating from the modified accredited zone must have a movement permit.

Trucking: All arrangements regarding trucking costs and delivery times are to be predetermined between the trucking firm and the buyer prior to the trucking firm hauling the cattle. Sale management and the sellers will assist in coordinating loads, however, neither the sale management, nor the seller, assumes any responsibility regarding the pricing for trucking cattle or the collection of fees due to the trucking firm.

Responsibility: The seller is the responsible party for all recommendations and warranties. The Michigan Angus Association, all persons associated, and the auctioneer are acting as agents only and are not responsible in any way, but will endeavor to protect the interest of both buyer and seller. The seller or anyone associated with the sale shall not be responsible in case of accident resulting in injury to anyone attending the sale.

Bidding: All animals sell to the highest bidder.

Any disputes or challenges regarding bids will be settled by the auctioneer, and his decision will be final.

Risk: All animals are at owner’s risk and become the property of the purchaser when declared sold. Assistance will be given in loading and shipping of animals, but no risk is assumed by anyone associated with the sale.

Liability: All persons who attend this sale do so at their own risk, legal or otherwise, for their safety or the animals’ behavior. The owner, Michigan Angus Association, and the sale staff assume no liability for property loss or any accidents that may occur.

Michigan Beefalo Show & Sale Beefalo – The Breed eefalo is a hybrid cross breed of Bison and any breed of domestic catB tle. Beefalo contains between 17% and 37.5% (3/8) bison. A full-blooded Beefalo is 3/8 bison. Beefalo look like cows and yet retain many of the favorable characteristics of bison. Beefalo will eat rough forage, survive under harsh conditions, are generally smaller at birth, are hardy, are generally easy to manage, and produce a high quality low fat high protein meat. USDA sources show Beefalo to be lower in calories, cholesterol, and total and saturated fat and higher in protein than pork and chicken.

In the spring of 1985 the USDA began to allow Beefalo carcasses to be stamped “Beef from Beefalo” or “Beefalo Beef” provided they are registered in one of the national registry programs and are handled during slaughter and processing according to USDA instructions. Many processors have been approved to process such stamped carcasses.

American Beefalo International (ABI) and American Beefalo Word Registry (ABWR) have merged to form a single national breed organization. The November 15, 2008 merger created the American Beefalo Association.

There are currently numerous Beefalo breeders and producers across the United States, Internationally, and in Michigan. Information regarding Beefalo can be obtained from any of the officers or other members of the MBBA.

MSBA Dedication: The MSBA is honored to dedicate the 2012 Michigan Beef Expo Shorthorn Show & Sale to Perry & Penny Vance of Hale Farms, Charlotte, Michigan. For many years Perry & Penny have dedicated themselves to the Michigan Junior Shorthorn organization. Many Michigan juniors, new or seasoned, received guidance, assistance, or encouragement from Perry and Penny. Not only were many hours donated to MJSA, but each year, at the conclusion of their annual fall production sales, they held a fundraising auction that has raised thousands of dollars for the junior organization. Each year, neighbors, family, friends, even coworkers were in the seats during the cattle auction waiting for all the handmade crafts, goodies and unique items donated by juniors, consignors and friends. Both of their sons, Caleb and Seth were very active and past officers of MJSA. As Seth completes his junior show career, Penny & Perry decided to redirect their fundraising efforts and have started a scholarship fund with the proceeds raised from the annual Hale Farms Junior Auction and they will award several types of scholarships each year. From the 2011 auction, they awarded a $1000 college scholarship; they will provide one scholarship for entries and travel expenses to the 2012 National Jr. Show and scholarships toward entries and travel expenses to the annual AJSA Key Conference. Penny & Perry’s vision to grow our breed organization through juniors has benefited not only MJSA and MSBA but the junior members’ personal growth, achievement and leadership skills. We greatly appreciate their efforts to grow our organization from the ground up.
