A Message Of Care

Do you experience moments in your life that nudge you to reach out to someone special? Maybe you haven’t spoken to them in a while; maybe you have a nagging concern to check in or simply say, “Hi! I’m thinking of you today.” Allow me to go a step further and ask, when you feel this nudge to reach out to someone special, do you act on it, or do you let the moment pass you by? Consider if this was a divinely inspired moment or task God has whispered to you for a specific reason.

I often feel the nudge to reach out to someone. It shows up as a feeling; suddenly, someone will pop into my head as if their name has been called out to me. Then I have a sudden urge to reach out to them via text, messenger, or email. The time spent following through with the action is a blessing to me, and it doesn’t take long. I hope it is a blessing to those I reach out to as well: a quick message to share a special moment with a friend.

Those moments occur quite often, where it just seems like I need to reach out to a friend. Sometimes, there is a specific message to share. Sometimes, I just want to let them know I am thinking of them. Other times, the thought occurs because of something we have in common. Occasionally, I feel a direct message that comes to my heart and head with a burden I need to tell this friend with purpose and intention. I try diligently to not allow these moments to pass me by because I don’t want to miss the significance of what God may be doing through this small manner of care. Sometimes, a friend responds with something I need to hear. Therefore, the action in obedience becomes an unexpected gift in return.

Most recently, there has been a pattern to the connection that can only be divine inspiration. This is a gift given by God. I may never know if my short, simple messages mean anything to the friends I share them with, and that is okay. I do know, however, that the responses my friends share with me are of great significance to me. Through these small actions, moments of checking in with a friend, I understand I am following through an action in faith with obedience when I reach out to my friends.

I want to encourage you to reach out to those who pop up in your thoughts. Simply let them know you care and you are thinking of them: not because you need something from them but because you want to encourage them. “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58). I firmly believe you will be blessed through the action of reaching out to a friend who suddenly pops into your thoughts. Be a blessing to those you think of with a simple message showing you care.
