Keep Waiting On God

Many of us do not like to wait. Waiting is a dreadful chore at times. Although patience has been given to every child of God, most people find it hard to exercise this Fruit of the Spirit. However, all day long, we find ourselves doing things that coerce us to wait. Every day, we wait on something. To name a few, we wait at the traffic light, the auto mechanics shop, the grocery store, the restaurant, the elevator, etc.
Amidst a global pandemic, many, perhaps, are waiting on God to get rid of this deadly virus, restore their health, bless them with employment, or restore their company/ small business. The prophet Isaiah exhorts us to keep waiting on God.
1. God’s delays are not necessarily denials (Isaiah
40:28). King Solomon once wrote, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life” (Proverbs 13:12). God answers prayer with several replies. Either He says “Yes,” “No,” or “Wait.” Usually, when He says “Wait,” it requires faith, obedience, and patience. As we wait on God, God tests our faith to see if we want Him more than what we request of Him. Our request to God is not without a requirement from God.
To not wait on God is to act presumptuously and prematurely. Abraham and Sarah acted presumptuously 6 // April 2021
and prematurely when they became impatient with God and took matters into their own hands by having a baby by Hagar (see Genesis 16). Aaron and the children of Israel acted presumptuously and prematurely when they failed to wait on Moses to come back down Mt. Sinai (see Exodus 32). As a result, Aaron erected a golden calf as an object of worship. When we fail to wait on God, we end up with a golden calf, a mere figment of the imagination.
2. God is working on you while you wait on Him
(Isaiah 40:29-30). As we wait on God, keep working for
God. He gives strength and increased power to those who are using their strength as they wait on Him. It was Job who said, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in Him,” and, “All the days of my struggle I will wait,
Until my change comes” (Job 13:15; 14:14). The apostle
Paul declared, “In every circumstance, I have learned the secret of being content…I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:12-13). Be patient, and wait on God to come through for you. As the old hymn says, “Time is filled with swift transitions, naught on earth unmoved can stand, build your hope on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.” –“Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand” by Mary Jane (Jennie) Bain Wilson
There are some good things that come to those who wait on God.
Four spiritual blessings for those who wait for God (Isaiah 40:31).
1. Power of God: “Gain new strength.” 2. Preparation from God: “Mount up with wings like eagles.” 3. Perseverance of God: “Run and not get tired.” 4. Peace of God: “Walk and not become weary.”
